The Murray County Board of Education met in an official regular meeting on the above
date. The following members were in attendance:

CALL TO ORDER
Greg Shoemaker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
On a motion by Heath Jones, seconded by Renda Baggett, the board voted unanimously to
approve the amended agenda as presented. Replacing item B under Recognitions with Board
Appreciation Presentation instead of Carl Riker with Arista.
PLEDGE AND INSPIRATION
Frank Loyd led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance and inspirational prayer.
RECOGNITIONS
Brenda Jackson and Stephanie Skojac gave a short presentation on the highlights of 4-H.
Steve Loughridge recognized the Board for their hard work and dedication to the county. He invited everyone to join them for a short break and reception for the Board.

On a motion by Kelli Reed, seconded by Frank Loyd, the board voted unanimously to approve the
consent items below.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
A. Operational Effectiveness
i) Governance 1. GSBA Legislative Positions 2. GSBA Delegate
Steve Loughridge recommended the Board approve the GSBA Legislative positions and select a
delegate and alternate for the GSBA Delegate Assembly June 8th, 2018.
On a motion by Kelli Reed, seconded by Renda Baggett the board voted unanimously to
approve the GSBA Legislative Positions. On a motion by Renda Baggett, seconded by Frank
Loyd the Board voted unanimously to approve the GSBA Delegate as Heath Jones. On a motion
by Frank Loyd, seconded by Aaron Phillips the Board unanimously to approve Renda Baggett
as the alternate delegate.
ii.) Construction Update 1. Gladden Middle School
a. RFQ for architect Steve Loughridge recommended the Board decide between commencing an RFQ or using our current architect, Buckley and Associates. On a motion by Aaron Phillips, seconded by Kelli Reed the Board voted a 3,3 tie to commence for the RFQ for architectural services. Upon this conclusion the Board requested Mr. Loughridge contact Buckley and Associates to see if they will offer a reduced fee. Mr. Loughridge will then poll the board via phone.
2. SPES – Building a. Gym Removal – Interlocal with County
Mr. Loughridge recommended Board approval of the interlocal agreement between Murray County Public Schools and Murray County for the transfer of property (SPES gym) as outlined in the agreement. On a motion by Heath Jones, seconded by Frank Loyd, the Board voted unanimously to approve that recommendation.
3. MCHS a. RFQ Construction Manager at Risk
Mr. Loughridge recommended the Board approve the RFQ process for a Construction Manager at Risk for the MCHS athletic field project. On a motion by Renda Baggett, seconded by Kelli Reed, the board voted unanimously to approve that recommendation.
B. Fiscal Accountability 1) 2017 SPLOST Outline (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2022) i) January 2018 - $398,903.02 2) Financial Statement – For seven ending January 31, 2018 i) Total Revenues – $35,794,003.00 ii) Total Expenditures – $33,833,045.03

iii) Ending General Fund - $11,159,400.57 3) Surplus of Visitor bleachers Mr. Loughridge recommended the Board approve the surplus of the visitor bleachers on the
MCHS football field. One a motion by Heath Jones, seconded by Renda Baggett the Board voted unanimously to approve that recommendation.
4)Surplus of portable classrooms Mr. Loughridge also recommended the Board approve the surplus of the following portable
classrooms. On a motion by Aaron Phillips, seconded by Heath Jones the voted unanimously to approve that recommendation.

On a motion by Kelli Reed, seconded by Heath Jones the board voted unanimously to approve

EXECUTIVE SESSION
The board voted unanimously to enter executive session at 6:39 pm to discuss or deliberate
upon the appointment, employment, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action or dismissal, or
periodic evaluation or rating of a public officer or employee; or to interview applicants for
position of superintendent, on a motion by Renda Baggett, seconded by Heath Jones.
OPEN SESSION
On a motion by Heath Jones, seconded by Renda Baggett, the board voted unanimously to
return to open session at 8:18 p.m.
BOARD DISCUSSION
NONE
ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Frank Loyd, seconded by Renda Baggett, the board voted unanimously to
adjourn at 8:19 p.m.
