ExpLorINg ThE INN: WATErCoLor BuTTErfLIES Mission Inn Museum

Join the Mission Inn Museum as we bring you an inside look at Riverside’s own Mission Inn Hotel & Spa! This month we will explore Mission Inn founder Frank Miller’s commitment to the natural environment and his friendship with many activists and scientists, including John Muir. Mr. Muir founded the Sierra club and worked for his whole life to preserve nature. He visited the Mission Inn twice and even helped workers on Mt. Rubidoux decide what kind of trees to plant to preserve the mountain. To celebrate nature and the great outdoors, we will be creating colorful butterflies made with special paper that creates amazing effects with watercolor paints.

In celebration of the last Broadway show of the season, Rain: A Beatles Experience, The Fox Foundation will be hosting an arts and crafts activity inspired by the Beatles.  We will create umbrellas and beetles out of paper plates, crayons, and markers.  We will also have a yellow submarine cut out, modeled from the Beatle’s Album cover, which children and families will be able to take pictures with. As always, the wonderful UCR Women in Science club will be joining us by hosting an arts and crafts activity that brings science and art together.
