Maqui Berries reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes Maqui Berries - fruits of a small dioecious tree which grows in Chile and south regions of Argentina. The native peoples, Chilean Indians, consider these fruits a gift of the Gods, because of their properties to increase endurance and strength. And for good reasons, their empirical conclusions obtained scientific proof. Scientific studies found that fruits of Maqui trees are rich in antioxidants and anthocyanins. Value of the content of antioxidants in Maqui Berris exceeds in comparison with all other berries: oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) is 27600 units per 100 g (earlier, the Black Raspberries lead with 19220 units per 100 g). Due to the content of potassium, iron and vitamin C, consumption of these fruits can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Regarding to anthocyanin (plant pigments), in fruits and leaves of Maqui tree was found eight glucoside pigments of delphinidin and cyanidin (content of delphinidin 3-sambubioside-5-glucoside is 34%). The average content of anthocyanins – 138 mg per 100 g of fresh berries (212 mg per 100 g of dried fruits), which is comparable with black currant (130÷400 mg), blueberries (25÷497 mg) and blackberries (83÷326 mg) and more than in strawberries (15÷35 mg) and raspberries (9÷71 mg). Anthocyanins are known for a strong anti-inflammatory effects in cells protection from impact of free radicals. That’s why Maqui Berris can reduce the risk of some degenerative diseases (which also include cancer).
