MapSight Release Note
MapSight Desktop v3.4.0
MapSight Tool v6.4.0
Date: November 26, 2015
This is a major new release of the MapSight software suite, introducing our new pole
modeling integration with SPIDACalc and adding functionality such as a Summary
PDF, Automatic Pole ID annotation on True Size images, and functionality to reduce
clutter when reviewing collected data. The last public release was 3.2.0 and 6.2.0
respectively.
SPIDACalc integration We’re proud to announce our latest integration with the SPIDACalc pole modeling and
analysis tool. This will allow you to seamlessly produce and analyze 3D pole models
using our specially designed modeling form, using the full catalogue of insulators, wires,
poles etc. as entered in SPIDACalc.
For more information, see the SPIDACalc documentation on the website, view one of
our online webinars, or contact your local GE MapSight sales representative.

Summary PDF In order to create a quick “elevator report”, we created a new report PDF type, a
“Summary PDF”. This contains the Pole ID field, and the first annotated True Size
image collected for each pole in the job-form. This is significantly shorter than the full
PDF report, taking up a page at most, for the default configuration. These files have the
suffix _summary.pdf
You can also configure this output to contain a number of other fields (such as above),
by adding the name of the field or tool in the settings page below.
You can produce a Summary PDF by clicking the “Summary PDF” button when
selecting a job-form in the tree-view in the reports tab.

Shortened Regular PDFs
We realized most forms contain fields and tools “just in case”, which, when not used,
can clutter PDF reports and make them hard to read. Because of this, uncollected fields
and tools won’t be added to the standard PDF output. Other exports (such as CSV) are
unaffected.
Automatic Pole ID annotation
We’ve made annotating your images a bit easier, by automatically annotating True Size
and True Size PLS images with the collected pole id when you first open the image
under the reports tab. Simply add and collect a field called “Pole ID” to your form, and it
will be added down the bottom right.

Reduce clutter - hide empty fields in Report tab
After working with our new shortened PDFs, we thought we could take that a step
further and de-clutter the user interface too. This makes it easier to see data from
Missing Lines, fields and other elements, for example, when annotating True Size
images.
By default, this setting is turned off, to preserve the current way of doing things, but can
easily be activated by ticking the checkbox in the General Settings tab under options.
Reduce clutter - switch between multiple workspaces
6
If you work with multiple workspaces regularly, this has just got easier. We now
remember previous selections, and make it easy for you to go back to them with a drop
down box in the options screen.
Improved settings screen
With all the new functionality added the settings screen has started to look like the
control panel in a nuclear reactor. We’ve split it up into different sections, so you can
find exactly what you need.
There are four sections under the reports tab:
General - Generic settings to configure the operation of MapSight
Measurements - Allow you to change units and reference planes
Integrations - All of the settings specific to integrations with SPIDACalc and other third
party industry specific applications (some options may only be available when the 3rd
part application is detected on your system)
7
Customization - Customize how you want reports to look, and what you want them to
contain
Bug Fixes
Shape File exports
Some customers had experienced errors when trying to export data with duplicate
report names, or malformed names. We’ve changed our renaming algorithm to ensure
you can always get your report.
Hidden Message Boxes
We altered the way our message boxes work. Before, the message boxes could get
hidden behind other applications, like your email, and meant that the main user
interface looked like it had locked up. We’ve fixed this so they stick with the main
application window - no more searching for the right one!
Large IWF files

We've put an upper limit on form size, and warned you when try to upload it to the device, to
guarantee you continue to receive the quality you've come to expect. Forms are now limited to
1.8mb on disk. If you have a form larger than this, contact your sales representative and we can
advices on how to cut the size down, without compromising data quality.
Device fixes
Issues when capturing images in forms with either double spaces or certain key words in the
form name have been resolved.
Fixed timing issue with auto-exposure functionality, and excess logging when measuring
extremely close laser ranges.
