1.0 In General

The DESMI power pack, type DSPP50/42 kW is a very versatile and compact diesel hydraulic power unit designed with ease of operation and maintenance in mind. Safety systems are incorporated to automatically stop the unit in case of broken V-belt and in case of too low engine lube oil pressure. Alarm lamps for hydraulic oil temperature, hydraulic oil level, engine oil pressure, alternator, engine temperature, and air filter are incorporated. These features provide for a safer operation of the system and assist with problem solving. The power pack has two independent hydraulic circuits, each controlled by a load-sensing proportional valve, to deliver hydraulic oil to the DESMI TERMINATOR skimmer and to the RO-BOOM winder.

Optional An air blower can be built into the unit to provide high capacity low pressure air for rapid oil containment boom inflation/deflation.

2.0 Transportation

NOTE:

The weight of the power pack is 750 kg (empty tanks), 950 kg (full tanks)

The power pack can easily be transported by a crane or a fork lift. When transporting by crane, use the four lifting eyes on the top of the power pack. Always lift in the centre, as shown on Fig. 1.

For transportation by fork-lift truck, the power pack is equipped with slots for the forks. Lift as shown on Fig. 2.

3.0 Start Instructions (See Fig. 3) WARNING!

When operating the power pack always stand in front of the control panel

and keep a safety distance to other side of the power pack.

WARNING!

Do not start the power pack if there is a danger of hazardous atmospheres.

3.1 Before Starting

A. Mount the spark arrester (13). It is placed inside the power pack when not being used.

B. Check the diesel engine lube oil (14).

C. Make sure that the fuel tank (1) and the hydraulic fluid tank (4) are full.

D. Check that the hydraulic control levers (11-12) are in centre position.

3.2 Start the Engine

CAUTION!

Always use ear protectors when operating the power pack.

To start a cold engine:

A. Turn the engine speed control lever (9) to MAX. position.

B. Turn the ignition key (8) to ON. Push the start button (7) until the engine starts. If the engine fails to start within 10 seconds, stop pushing the button. Turn the

ignition key to OFF position. Recommence start procedure from B.

Fig. 3 - Front view of the power pack

Page 7: Manual Ing - Pp 42 Kw (Airblower)

C. Set the engine speed control lever (9) to the desired position. Allow the engine to warm up for a short time without load.

To start a warm engine:

A. Turn engine speed control lever (9) to 1/2 max. speed.

B. Turn the ignition key (8) to ON. Push the start button (7) until the engine starts. If the engine fails to start within 10 seconds, stop pushing the button. Turn the

ignition key to OFF position. Recommence start procedure from B.

C. Set the engine speed control lever (9) to the desired position.

3.3 Operating the Power pack

The DESMI power pack is now ready for operation, and the hydr. control levers can be used to operate the equipment from the power pack.

NOTE:

Refer to operators manuals for ancillary equipment.

The control levers (11-12) can be activated in two ways:

When moving the control levers FORWARD or REVERSE the hydr. flow will correspond to the movement of the lever.

The air blower can be ON/OFF (6) controlled from the diesel engine instrument panel.

3.4 Stop the Engine:

A. Reset control levers (11-12) to centre position.

B. Place the engine speed control lever (9) in MIN position. Let the engine run for a short while without load, to cool down.

C. Turn the ignition key (8) to OFF position.

4.0 Maintenance and Inspection After Operation (See Fig. 3)

NOTE!

For maintenance of diesel engine or hydraulic pump refer to the

operators manual for the equipment in question.

Maintenance is the precondition for reliability and a long lifetime of the power pack so the directions in this section must be followed closely.

WARNING!

When maintaining the power pack make sure that the main switch is off

position.

A. Check that there is no water in the hydraulic fluid. If the fluid contains water you will notice a different colour in the lower section of the sight glass for hydraulic fluid tank (4) compared to the centre section. In such cases you have to remove all hydraulic fluid from the system, including the hoses to the skimmer, and refill with new fluid to max. level.

B. Check hydraulic fluid level (4) and refill the tank (3) if necessary to max. level.

CAUTION!

When filling the hydraulic tank, use a pump with a 10 micron filter.

C. Check all hydraulic hoses for damage and leakage after operation.

D. Check all quick couplings (item 20-24 see drawing No. 481282) and protect them by using anti-corrosion oil and fit the protection plugs on all couplings.

E. Lubricate the engine speed control lever (9) and cable (15) with motor oil.

F. Lubricate hydraulic control levers (11-12) and hinges with lithium grease.

G. Check the diesel engine in accordance with the separately supplied engine manual.

H. Tighten all hydraulic connections and couplings as well as screws and nuts after the first 5 hours of running. After that you have to retighten for every 150 hours of operation.

Page 9: Manual Ing - Pp 42 Kw (Airblower)

I. Replace the hydraulic fluid filters after the first 50 hours of operation and again after every 500 hours of operation.

J. Check the battery terminals and lead connections for signs of corrosion. Also check the electrolyte level. If necessary the electrolyte should always be topped up with distilled water to restore the correct level. I.e. the battery plates should always be covered with electrolyte to a depth of 6 mm.

In case of corrosion on battery terminals and on the frame, clean and neutralise it with ammonia or baking soda. Apply petroleum jelly to the terminals and paint the battery frame with anti-corrosion paint. Keep the top surface of the battery clean and dry.

K. Clean the instrument panels with a soft cloth.

Long-Term Storage

NOTE!

This preservation should last for 6 to 12 months if the power pack is

stored in a dry place.

A. In case of long term storage, charge the battery frequently in order to keep it in good condition.

B. Clean all external parts of the power pack with detergent and wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Clean the diesel engine, the hydr. pump, the air unit and the valves with diesel oil or detergent.

C. Clean the electric control box with a soft cloth.

D. Preserve the diesel engine in accordance with the engine instruction manual.

E. Clean and protect all quick couplings by use of anti-corrosion oil. Fit the protective plugs on the couplings and clean all hoses thoroughly with detergent.

F. If you intend to have the unit prepared for immediate use, do not preserve but start the diesel engine for about 10-15 min. every 4 weeks.
