was sent home via backpack mail. If you have not yet done so, please sign and return the bottom portion

so that we have record that you have received it. There was one sent home for each child. We must keep

your signed slip on file for every student in the school. Thank you.

COMMUNITY NEWS *****GIRL SCOUTING 100TH ANNIVERSARY – CALLING ALL GIRL SCOUTS AND LEADERS BOTH

PAST AND PRESENT!! – This year is the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the USA, and Mansfield

Girl Scouts would like to invite all past and present Leaders and Girl Scouts to attend our Court of

Awards Ceremony on June 13, 2012, at 7:00 pm at Hackettstown High School. We would love to have

past Girl Scouts and Leaders briefly share a fond memory of Girl Scouting that could include life

lessons learned, how Scouting helped you reach a goal, or what was your Silver/Gold Award Project?

The evening will conclude with celebratory refreshments in the cafeteria. Please respond to

****SUMMER JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM – MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP RECREATION DEPT.

Held at the public tennis courts on Port Murray Road across from Comcast. For children ages 5-12

interested in learning to play tennis. Experienced instructor , Jamie Rosenblum, is a USTA member and

ranked tournament player and a member of Warren Hills Varsity Tennis Team. Bring your tennis

racket, smooth-soled tennis shoes or sneakers, and a water bottle. Sessions begin in July. Please see the

attached registration form for more info and costs associated with the programs.

****JUNIOR STREAKS SUMMER GOLF PROGRAM - Grades 4-8. June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24

and 31. Beginners classes 6-7 pm and Advanced classes from 7-8 pm. Classes will be held at Comcast

Fields, Port Murray; Hackettstown Driving Range: Fairview Golf Course, Washington. Cost is $65 and

SUPER SCIENCE PROGRAMS FOR KIDS - LEGO STAR WARS, NINJAGO, MOTORIZED MACHINES,

AND ROBOTICS CAMP 2012. Held at Mansfield Township Elementary School,

June 25-29, 2012, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Lego projects will vary. Students will also build a wide assortment

of motorized Lego Education machines and create their own projects that illustrate science concepts. Also, students

will use the Robotix system to design, invent, and construct robotic creations from their own imagination. All

students will take home a Lego project or robot as part of the camp. Cost is $175 (family discount of $25 will be given

for additional children from same family). A portion of all proceeds will benefit Mansfield Township Education

SUPER SCIENCE PROGRAMS FOR KIDS – HALF DAY ENRICHMENT CAMPS – DIGGIN’

FOR DINOSAURS, ROCKIN’ BIRDS & CYRSTAL CREATIONS OR AMERICAL GIRL

ADVENTURES. Held at Mansfield Township Elementary School, July 9-13, 2012, from 9:00 am to

12 Noon daily. Young scientists will discover the exciting science of archaeology and paleontology as they excavate

and assemble complete skeletal replicas from simulated “fossilized” rock. Take home a unique rock and mineral

collection that you will learn about in the program, a rock and mineral book, unearthed treasures, fossilized shark

teeth, and crystals. For ages 6-11. OR take a journey through the lives of our favorite American Girls! Learn about

the eras they lived in while experiencing some of the activities they enjoyed. Activities include tie dye shirts,

making soap, making picture frames, designing clay beads and jewelry, sewing doll dresses, and much more. The

week will end with a tea party with your American Girl dolls (other favorite dolls welcome). For girls ages 7-11.

MANSFIELD REC FIELD HOCKEY PROGRAM – Registration has opened for the fall 2012 season.

Players entering Grades 2-8 in the fall are welcome. No experience necessary and most equipment will be provided

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP REC FALL SOCCER 2012 SIGN-UP IS NOW OPEN – For Pre-K,

K-8th Grades. Sign-up by August 3, 2012. Please go to their website: Mansfield rec.org for registration information

or to Mansfield recsoccer.org for more information on the soccer league. The programs for PreK, 1st and 2nd grades

are instructional. All travel players must sign up no later than July 31st. PreK through 2nd grade practice once a

week and play on Saturday mornings. Grades 3-8 practice twice a week and play their home games at Mansfield.

The programs are run entirely by Volunteers. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to participate in

making the Recreational Soccer program a success. There are many ways in which you can donate your time:

Day Care Available

On Early Dismissal Days

Do you need child care for early dismissal days? The “After Care Program” is available to all students attending Mansfield

School. If your child is not already enrolled in this program, pre-registration and pre-payment are required - $30 per day/per

student. If you have questions or would like to enroll your child, please call Annette, 908-689-3212, ext. 1186. In the event a

delayed opening or early dismissal is called due to inclement weather, before and after care will be cancelled. On

scheduled early dismissal days, the After Care Program will run from 12:40 to 6:00 pm.

BAD WEATHER INFORMATION

Remember that whenever school is dismissed early due to bad weather, ALL STUDENTS WILL BE SENT HOME AND

AFTER CARE WILL BE CANCELLED. If there is a delayed opening, school opens at 10:25 am for all students. THERE

WILL BE NO BEORE CARE. School closures and delays are announced on WRNJ 1510 AM Radio, on TV via Channel 257

(WFMZ), WNBC (Channel 4) on Comcast Cable, the Honeywell Alert System, the Mansfield School Website,

www.mansfieldelementary.org, and Mansfield School’s main phone number 908-689-3212.

MANSFIELD SCHOOL INFORMATION

menus, forms, PTA News, and lots of new information can be found on the website.

BUS INFORMATION Please be reminded that whenever your child is getting off the bus at a stop that is different from his/her own stop

(on the same bus), we need to have a note from you and also from the receiving parent who is taking your child off

the bus. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RIDE A DIFFERENT BUS.

REMINDER – SIBLINGS ATTENDNACE IN SCHOOL

Although parents are always welcome to attend special events held in the classrooms and special areas,

we regret that we cannot have children who are not registered at Mansfield School attend the programs.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Whenever you send in a check to the school to pay for lunch, class trips, etc., the check must be made

payable to “Mansfield Township Elementary School.”

EARLY SCHOOL ARRIVAL

Students cannot be brought to school and left any earlier than 8:25 am (or on delayed

openings 10:25 am), nor can they be left unattended. Since there is no supervision for

students prior to 8:25, children arriving earlier than school opening will be put in the Before

Care Program and parents will be charged.

STUDENT SAFETY

Students are responsible for wearing footwear that is appropriate and safe for the day’s scheduled

activities. Failure to do so may result in loss of activity privileges.

SCHOOL DROP OFFS/PICK-UPS

If you are dropping off your children in the morning or picking them up at dismissal, you are reminded

not to use the staff parking lot and not to park along the yellow curb. Park only in designated parking

spaces in the Visitor’s parking lot. All children should be dropped off on and walked down the

sidewalk by Little Toy, located outside the Kindergarten classrooms. We do not want children or adults

crossing between buses or walking through the staff parking lots, as cars are pulling in or backing out.

Please adhere to this procedure for the protection of all our children.

NURSE’S CORNER BUS SAFETY

Please be sure to communicate with your child’s bus driver if he/she has any severe food allergies, bee

allergies, or medical conditions that may become an issue while on the bus. This helps the driver keep all

the children safe while riding the bus.

**CHECKS SENT TO SCHOOL***

When you are sending in checks to school for lunch, class trips, etc., please put your child’s name on the

check, and let us know what it is for. This will help with any confusion, especially if you have more than

one student in the school. Please be sure that they are made payable to Mansfield Township Elementary

School. Thank you.

With $1,500+raised in 2010 and $3,000+ raised in 2011 we are proud of our organization’s early efforts to support Mansfield’s students and teachers. Thank you to Mansfield Residents, MTE Faculty, Kohl’s, Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesdays, and Pasta Grill for their donations and help with our fundraisers. MTEF’s purpose is to raise funds to support the educational mission of the Mansfield Elementary School. We do this by reuniting our alumni and alumni families, seeking the support of local businesses, and working together for the benefit of the current elementary school students. As alums and alumni families, we understand how the strong education provided at Mansfield Township Elementary School paved the way for success in the middle school, high school, and beyond. We also know our school has suffered greatly from the educational budget cuts of the past years. Now is the time to act to preserve and rebuild our elementary school and we need your help to do it. How can you be a part of this effort? Join our organization. We meet on the first Monday of most months at the Mansfield School at 7:30pm. We are still in the process of constructing our website, but you can keep up to date by checking the school newsletter and website. And make a donation. Your tax deductable contribution to MTEF can be sent to the address above or delivered to the Mansfield Elementary School office. GOING ON NOW!!!!!!!!

1) Fall Program is only for those enrolled Pre- k, Kindergarten thru 8th Gradefor September.

This program is designed to assist players in developing basic skills of the game while offering a fun,

semi-competitive environment. Recreation soccer is a great opportunity for players to exercise and have

fun in a safe, social environment. We strive to make the experience of playing soccer FUN for all the

players. We teach respect for the game and for all participants - coaches, teammates, referees, and

opposing players.We also teach the fundamentals of soccer so that players are prepared to meet the

physical demands of the sport and to play the game in a safe manner.

Preseason Practice: starts August 2012 (2nd to 3rd week of August)

Practice Schedule: Pre K – Kind, 1 thru 2nd (Once a week) 3rd – 8th (Twice a week) trainer provided

Games Schedule: Pre K – Kind, 1st thru 2nd- Mansfield (Saturday’s Morning) 3rd -8th –Home games: Mansfield. Away Games: In the surrounding towns. (Saturday’s)

Equipment: Parents Responsibility: Soccer cleats, socks, and shin guards are required. Rec Provides: Shirt and Shorts

Who can I call to become a coach or if I have more questions? Our programs are run entirely by Volunteers.
