PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello everyone,
The end of Term 2 is upon us, and what a term it has been!
There has been a lot of uncertainty and change across our
country the past few months and I want to thank families for their
patience and cooperation in ensuring students attend school regularly
to receive high quality education. In some ways, the term has flown by.
In other ways, it has been a long one. I have been so buoyed by the
dedication of our teaching and support staff at school, and as such,
would like to thank them for their efforts in adapting their teaching to
ensure students were known, valued and cared for this term. I’d also like
to thank Ms St Clare and school leaders for their wonderful, online
assemblies each week this term. A lot of effort has gone into creating
these. Well done!
Term 3 is going to see some changes. The first is the inclusion of
Professional Learning Communities for staff. These are targeted 2-hour
professional learning sessions for staff to better collaborate in their
stages on teaching and learning practices. While it does take teachers
off class for an extra 2-hours each week, the benefits will undoubtedly
be seen in high quality teaching across our school.
Crossing the Road
Staff and community members have observed a large number of
children in Mannering Park unsupervised and failing to obey pedestrian
road rules. I have had a number of reported ‘near-misses’ from motorists
as well. I can’t stress enough how important it is to teach your children
about road safety. While we do teach this at school, it is a very small part
of our PDHPE curriculum. Road Safety is the responsibility of parents and
carers. On the next page is a flyer from NSW Police regarding this.
I have also had a number of parents question the hours of our crossing
operators. The crossing operators are employed under RMS NSW, NOT
the school or NSW Department of Education. As such, their times and
responsibilities lie with that government agency.
Supporting the School
Over the next few months, parents and carers will be given an
opportunity to provide feedback on school priorities. The aim of this is
to help us develop our next 4-Year school planning cycle. I urge
everyone to participate in these feedback sessions as results from
surveys will help drive the future planning of your child’s education at
Mannering Park Public School.

Principal
Principal Star Students Apparently, I have a new title. I was lucky enough to
open ‘Welham City’, a 3D project by 3/4D. It was a
real honour, but more importantly, a really proud
moment to see how excited these students were with
their learning. Thank you Ms Dowdell and students
of 3/4D 😊

Once a fortnight.
SRC and Classes take turns leading.
Right amount of student awards.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
At Mannering Park Primary School, we believe that
student success is dependent upon good
attendance at school. It is essential for students to
attend every day unless they are too unwell to come
to school. They need to be at school as much as
possible to MAXIMISE their learning time.
Daily attendance enables students to access a full
education, allowing them to reach their full
potential. Disengagement from school is often a
result of poor attendance patterns.
If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school,
please ensure you call the school on 02 4359 1184
or contact your child’s teacher to explain their
absence.
Remember, students must be here to learn and
learning time starts at 9am and finishes at 2.55pm.

NEWSLETTER
ALIRAH’S SPEECH ON SIDS … Hi, my name is Alirah and today I am going to be talking to you about
something serious and very important to me because it has changed my
whole life and this is SIDS.
SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which means a baby will
suddenly go to heaven so unexpectedly that no one sees it coming, there are
no warning signs and no reasons why. It is rare and most often happens to
healthy happy babies and infants, they don’t even get sick first.
Some doctors believe SIDS can happen because the babies are so little and
new that they never really learnt how to breathe very well so when they get
so comfy and relaxed their body could forget to keep breathing and their
heart forgets to beat.
This happened to my baby brother and none of us had any idea anything
was wrong. Everything was normal, he was smiling and playing with me that
night and looked way too cute. But SIDS made him an angel while he was
asleep.
I’m sad to say this also happened to 8 other families that same day, because
there are 9 babies every single day that are given their angel wings because
of SIDS. 9 might not sound like a lot because there are over 3 Hundred
Thousand babies born every year, but trust me I know even 1 baby taken is 1
too many.
Doctors have been trying for a long time to find out how and why it happens
but they can’t seek to find any clues. They have found that it seems to
happen more in boy babies and very healthy babies. There are some things
that might help stop it happening. Like;
1 Make sure sleeping babies lay on their back not on the tummy or side,
2 Babies should not have their head underneath the covers, so make sure the
blanket is tucked in tightly with no extra blankets,
3 Keep babies away from smoking
4 Put babies to sleep in their own cot, not in the parent’s bed.
I hope by telling you all this it can help save someone else’s baby. There is a
charity for SIDS called Red Nose and it raises money to help find out more
about it, and Red Nose day is coming up on Aug 14th so I hope to see you
all wear a silly red nose for a good cause.
We can all donate and give some ‘Savings for SIDS’.
Thankyou.
