The Womenomics is a spin-off from Olwethu’sWomenomics segment of her Podcast, The Sit Down

with Olwethu Leshabane. The segment entails having various conversations with thought leaders and industry

experts to inspire, motivate and equip women with the tools to manage and improve their financial and

economic conditions.

The Womenomics is supported and endorsed by a number of media personalities and high-profile business and community leaders.

The Womenomics is inspired by women who marched to the Union Buildings on the 9th of August 1956 and intends to pick up the baton in the search and fight for economic freedom for the women of South Africa.

The Womenomics is a movement that calls on South Africans, especially corporates, to make a concerted effort

to accelerate women’s participation in the economy.

the Womenomics aims to achieve the following key objectives

Bridge the gap between women looking for employment, business and funding opportunities and entities wanting to address “their Womenomics”.

What do we want

Corporates to review and take stock of their current

policies relating to employment, upskilling

and supplier and/or funding opportunities

of/for women.

R E V I E W & T A K E S T O C K

Take accountability of the shortcomings, internal biases, policy biases and the structural and systemic oppression that has allowed for

women to be overlooked for so long. Thoroughly interrogate them and take real and tangible

steps necessary to address them.

Publish findings within the organization and to the public and let us know what the way forward

will be.

Define and publish a sustainable plan for how the Womenomics will be grown to a desirable level over

a realistic timeline.

Stay accountable and be transparent throughout the

process and journey.

Execute the plan!

What we are doing

The Womenomics has developed The Womenomics Test to evaluate how the corporates’ Womenomics look like

• The test is a series of 8 metrics for corporates and 9 metrics for financiers.

• Should the corporates score below 50%, they will be lobbied to make a commitment towards a desired target they will endeavour to reach within their organization over the next 5 years, with specific annual milestones and targets.

• This will carry on until the 50% target is reached.• The Womenomics will track and report on their

progress on the platform on an annual basis.

What we are doing

In addition to the corporates’ internal targets, they will be challenged to make a specific public annual pledge on The Womenomics platform towards:

• Funding women-owned businesses• Procurement spend on women-owned businesses• Recruiting women professionals

What we are doing

Women looking for employment, business and funding opportunities will register on The Womenomics Platform and will be connected to the relevant opportunities within the respective corporates

The women will also be linked with other development agencies/firms to provide them with other skills and technical support.
