The Chris Blackwell Story – First it was Reggae. Now it’s Rum...

Beautiful and bright dark bronze in colour with red highlights. Smells deeply of Demerara sugar, molasses and treacle. In the mouth, the full-blown molasses comes across like a cocoa bean and chocolate cake frosting, lasting long into the finish.

Chris Blackwell is an international music icon, entrepreneur and cultural pioneer it is his reputation and lifestyle that are the inspiration behind the brand. He is proud to bring you the best Jamaica has to offer.

Chris hails from one of Jamaica's oldest merchant families - the Lindo family, who first came to the island in 1625. His grandfather owned J. Wray & Nephew - renowned for distilling the best rum in Jamaica.

Chris continues the family tradition with Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum, developed from his own recipe.

With his music label, Island Records, Chris brought the best of Jamaican reggae to the world, now he brings you the finest Jamaican rum - made from Jamaican sugar cane and distilled by Jamaican workers.

Takes no prisoners, and why should it?

This isn’t a simple light rum. Blackwell Rum, known by Jamaicans as 'Black Gold', is colourful, rich and complex, like the spirit of the island.

The primary role of wood ageing is to calm the spirit rather than to flavour it. The ageing process is carefully monitored to ensure that the natural flavours are enhanced and not overtaken. This process results in a complex liquid with a rich, sweet nose and aromas and flavours of tropical fruit. The ‘Toddy’ produces a 70cl bottle of Ceylon Arrack from four to six coconut trees.

Ceylon Arrack is one of the few spirits in the world that is a distillate of 100% natural fermentation. Collection of the coconut flower sap is undertaken by ‘Toddy Tappers’, who can be seen in the early morning on top of coconut trees along the shoreline. The sap has its own natural yeast and starts fermenting naturally once collected, it therefore must be distilled within 24 hours.

Ceylon Arrack is a 100% natural spirit from Sri Lanka distilled from the sap of the coconut flower and aged in Halmilla hard wood.

The windward island of St. Lucia, with its tropical climate and volcanic formations, provides the ideal conditions to transform cane into rum.

[e]8 rums are matured in #1 select American oak Bourbon barrels which have only ever been used once before to age fine deluxe bourbon whiskies. The master blender hand selects individual casks based on the desired flavour and aroma profiles.

After the rums have been selected they are carefully combined and left to ‘marry’, allowing them to fuse and form their distinct flavour profile. Over 10 hand selected single rums are expertly blended to create a complex marriage of flavours.

Elements Eight [e]8 is a super premium rum that far surpasses the quality, purity, smoothness and flavour of conventional rum brands - The result of 8 individual elements that are in perfect balance and harmony with each other: terroir, cane, water, fermentation, distillation, tropical ageing, blending and filtration. Each individual element adds a unique and distinct character to the final blend.

Elements Eight [e]8 rums are distilled and aged in the oldest distillery in St Lucia with over 120 years of rum making experience.

Tequila Herradura received its name when Aurelio López Rosales was out inspecting the agave fields and saw a glint of light on the dusty ground. When he picked up the gleaming object, it was a horseshoe that had caught the light. Since the horseshoe (‘Herradura’ in Spanish) means good luck all over the world, Aurelio was inspired to give this name to his excellent Tequila.

Tequila Herradura, founded in 1870, is one of the oldest and most respected producers of tequila. Located and produced in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region, in the tiny town of Amatitán, Jalisco - Tequila Herradura is an all-natural and estate bottled 100% blue agave tequila.

Carefully crafted using traditional methods, such as; cooking the agave in clay ovens, fermenting naturally with wild yeast and ageing in virgin American white oak barrels.

CASA HERRADURA TEQUILA

Tequila Herradura delivers a unique sensorial experience in each of its various expressions. This is the primary reason as to why Tequila Herradura has been synonymous with success and quality since it began.

Although warming and heartening on a cold day as originally intended, it is a splendidly uplifting tonic to be appreciated on its own all year round as well as in any number of cocktails and long, refreshing drinks.

The King’s Ginger is the emphatically ginger liqueur that was specifically formulated by Berry Bros. in 1903 for King Edward VII. Rich and zesty, it was created to stimulate and revivify His Majesty during morning rides in his new horseless carriage and has been appreciated by bon viveurs, sporting gentlemen and high-spirited ladies ever since.

The King’s Ginger is a high-strength liqueur created by the careful maceration of ginger root, enlivened by the judicious addition of citrus in the form of lemon oil.

Mezcal production differs from tequila in that the maguey piñas are roasted or grilled over hot rocks in covered conical pits rather than slow-baked. This roasting caramelises the maguey sugars, giving the mezcal its smokiness.

La Penca is distilled from ‘Salmiana’, an outstanding form of Maguey (agave), grown on the plateau of the San Luis Potosi state. Natural yeasts are used for fermentation. Distillation is carried out in copper and stainless steel pot stills.

In the 19th Century, aristocrats had a special preference towards Mezcal; it was known among them as ‘The Cognac of Mexico’, because of its unique flavour and exquisite softness.

La Penca is the name of the sword-like leaves that are removed from the maguey plant when removing the piña.

LA PENCAMEZCAL

The mezcal is aged in 220 litre American white oak barrels for 2 to 6 months, maintaining tradition and ensuring the distinctive flavour profile. 100% Agave. Packaged in a hand blown Artisan bottle.

To preserve the full character of the grapes, Portón Pisco uses the 'mosto verde' method of distilling from partially fermented grape juice. This serves to keep some of the natural grape sugars from converting into alcohol, so putting more flavour and aroma into every bottle.

By Peruvian law, no water can be added to the pisco to bring it to proof. After distillation, the pisco rests in containers called 'cubas de guardia' for five to eight months in order to let the flavours develop. Each bottle is individually numbered and bears the signature of Master Distiller, Johnny Schuler.

Pisco Portón is THE handcrafted, super premium Peruvian pisco that is estate grown, distilled and bottled in Ica, Peru at one of the oldest distilleries in the Americas, Hacienda La Caravedo.

Portón Pisco is distilled to exactly 86 proof using custom made copper pot stills.

Solerno is created by Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie, also the creator of Hendrick’s Gin (a chemist by trade, Lesley moved to Scotland from Yorkshire to join the company in 1988).

The essential oil from exotic Sanguinello blood oranges is married with Italian lemons and a quality neutral spirit base. It is then bottled in a beautiful Murano inspired glass bottle, the colour of the flesh of fresh blood oranges.

The nose bursts with whole-fruit blood orange aromas, red berries, orange blossom and a hint of lemon. The palate has a velvety sweetness which balances the tartness from the citrus fruit. Full bodied, with a long, dry finish.

Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur is made exclusively on the Italian island of Sicily from hand-picked Sanguinello blood oranges, found in the sun drenched groves on the slopes of Mount Etna.

Solerno is versatile and shines equally in modern interpretations of classic cocktails, original creations and Italian inspired aperitifs.

After the first distillation, Velho Barreiro is allowed to rest for some time before it is distilled for a second time. For this traditional cachaça, the spirit rests for 6 months before bottling. Velho Barreiro Gold is stored in barrels for 3 years and has a golden colour.

Velho Barreiro has a smoky aroma and a warm and smooth finish due to the very careful methods of distillation employed. While the ageing process does not drastically affect the colour of this clear spirit, it does impart depth, flavour and harmony.

Enjoy Velho Barreiro in the Brazilian’s favourite cocktail - the Caipirinha or in other fruit cocktails, whether it’s passion fruit, pineapple, coconut, mango or simply pure, straight on the rocks.

Produced since 1873, Velho Barreiro is one of the most appreciated Cachaças in Brazil. It has a delicate aroma, due to the careful double distillation production method.

The cachaça is stored in wooden barrels made from a particular Brazilian wood, the “Jequitibá Rosa”. This gives a unique style.
