Formal vs. Informal Commands Formal commands are used in situations when you want

to express respect to someone or you want to be really polite. Abuelitos Padres Los mayores Gente que no conoces Etc.

Informal commands are used with people you feel really comfortable with and you have a close relationship with. Amigos Primos Gente que conoces muy bien. Etc.

Affirmative tú commands Use the 3rd person singular of the verb in

the present tense Be sure to follow all stem-changing rules.

Abre tu libro.Cierra la puerta.Habla con tu hermano.Juega al baloncesto.Busca tus llaves.Lava el carro.

Mandatos y los pronombres Pronouns are used in the same way as they are used

with formal commands. The accent will go on the second to the last syllable

of the basic command form Be careful with single syllable commands. They need 2

pronouns in order to have an accent!

Acuéstate.Diviértete.Siéntate. Mírame.Ciérrala.

Abrázame.Escríbelo.

Pásalo.

Negative tú commands Take the 1st person singular of the verb in

the present tense, drop the “o” and switch the endings

–ar = es; -er/-ir =as

Just like negative Ud./Uds.commands!

With negative commands, you follow the same rules as with negative Ud./Uds. commands:
