Spooktacular Fun Days | October 24th, 2015
“Getting candy on Halloween is pretty cool, but bring-
ing happiness to little children with Halloween themed
activities is a lot cooler! This is what the members of La Quinta KIWIN’S did
at the Spooktacular Fun Days on Saturday, October 24, 2015. The event
was relatively simple, but all the volunteers were extremely excited to help
out at the event! Our volunteers were split into various groups, each with
different objectives. At Treat Town volunteers passed out candy for the
kids. Volunteers also worked at the carnival games where then ran differ-
ent booths and played with the children and also the arts and craft sta-
tion where they monitored as the children made any Halloween craft that
they want. Volunteers also helped out at the Harvest Walk and the Pump-
kin Patch. Although volunteers had to work continuously for a long period
of time, they did so happily because overall, the event was very fun! Vol-
unteers went home happy knowing that they spread a lot of happiness to
the children who came to the event.”

Jason Tran definitely deserves to be recognized as
Member of the Month. Jason is a new young manatee
to the world of KIWIN’S; however, right away, he is al-
ready feeling at home and making himself comfortable.
Since September started, Jason had gone to almost
every single service event that we have had. He has shown tremendous dedi-
cation and passion already for KIWIN’S and he’s determined to blossom into an
even better member from all of his experiences so far. No matter how early or
how far away the event, you can always see Jason there. Along with all the
other new members, you can already hear Jason saying how much he loves KI-
WIN’S already. “I want to go to every KIWIN’S event that there is possible this
year,” he says as he makes conversation with the other members at an event.
At a Hyundai Event this past September, Jason was heard from miles away as
he cheered for the runners and passed out water to support them. He has the
same dedication and passion as any other KIWIN’S members; however there is
something special about him that makes him stand out. Recently this morning
at the Surf City Marathon event, a member had lost her phone while helping
members with check in. Jason was one of the two members who went out of his
way to look for the phone. He searched thoroughly for the sake of another's
happiness, which is what I love to see at events. Not only is he contributing to
the happiness of the participants of the marathon, but he is also trying to make
his co-members happy as well. Jason isn’t the typical new member still trying to
grow out of his shell. Jason is someone who already has grown from his shell and
isn’t afraid to show his passion through his actions

David Huynh, my vice president, deserves to be officer
of the month, because he has kept his spirit through
these difficult first months of his senior year. While the
majority of our club board has reduced activity due to
school starting and becoming busy, David, even though he is busy as well, has
put even more effort into building KIWIN'S. He helps me present every meet-
ing; we collaborate in planning the meetings, creating the power points, and
presenting at the meeting. He has grown to become a key figure of the club;
while I give off an aura of responsibility, order, and down-to-earth-ness during
presentations, David is the opposite. He is lively, funny, self-deprecating, and
silly, and he helps bring fun to balance professionalism during meetings. This
side of him has come out recently in the past month, and has really helped en-
gage members; a few freshmen boys even said they would go to our first so-
cial, "just for David." David also, like always, shows his dedication for service
every week. He is often busy on Saturdays and Sundays due to his commitment
to his temple, but he is always willing to come to events an hour or two early
and help out separate from the club just to serve the community, and he is al-
ways willing to come to an event for just an hour or less to show up and help
even though he is busy afterward. David is always a positive presence at
events as well, interacting with old and new members, always with a smile on
his face and joking around. He treats every person as his friend, and is a wel-
coming figure
