// introduction

Construction alone accounts for more than 30% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and must now be reinvited to meet the ecological, economic and societal challenges of doing better with less, reducing its environmental footprint, limit the consumption of natural resources; build more responsibly and sustainably. It is by pursuing these objectives that we engage our energy and our ideas in the develop-ment of new constructive ways.

Bio-based materials, recycled, reused, smart and sustainable construction will be our tools to meet these challenges. In the diversity of offer that the construction offers today, the marine container is an alternative offering a great number of assets: modu-larity, mobility and scalability.

Transformable to infinity, the container is the ideal ingredient of the wildest architec-tural projects.

Reinventing everyday life, imagining new solutions, daring to walk the trailsbeaten, realizing dreams … the pause our planet is asking for, inspires creativity!

It is in this positive and engaging state of mind that CAPSA launches the Design Tomorrow Contest !

// briefThe time is for escape, many of us regret the moments spent in the workplace, dreaming of the places of life that transport us outside our home.

What would the workplace of your dreams look like?

This is the theme of this first design contest organized by CAPSA with the participation of many experts andpartners in the world of architecture, construction and container.

We all have in mind an ideal workplace, a place where our creativity would be stimulated, where our ideas would be simple to express. A place to share and ad-vance projects in the best way.

The workplace can also be a place of life in its own right. A place of sharing, a place of discussion and laughter. The atmosphere of a place is often born of the feeling, of the harmony that it clears.

To achieve these ideal workplace, however, we ask you to follow some simple guidelines:

// Use 2 x 20-foot dry used containers and 2 x 40-foot high cube used containers.

// The total building area must not exceed 200 m2.

// The maximum height of the work must not exceed 6m.

// the choice of the materials accompanying the containers is free and must be associated with the notion of eco-requested responsibility.

// choose the most inspiring place to set up your dream offices, make us travel!

We put at your disposal the technical sheets of the containers 20 feet high and cube and 40 feet high cube to help you in the apprehension of the containers and their specificities.

Manal rachdioxo architectes

Manal Rachdi created OXO Archi-tects to develop architectural systems that transform research and analysis of practices, as well as some theoretical questions, into driving forces of design.

Through several award-win-ning projects, Manal Rachdi has built an international reputation as a pillar of the new genera-tion of architects that combines thoughtful analysis, mischievous experimentation, social responsibi-lity and humour with their prac-tice. Its international reputation has been built thanks to its pro-jects that are highly avant-garde, both technically and programma-tically, while being designed to use reasonable resources and costs.

The agency always does a lot of work upstream of what Manal Ra-chdi calls sensitive archaeology of the context . The objective is to explore the different ways of cle-verly interlacing these systems in order to make the buildings as effi-cient as possible, while at the same time making part to the sensitivearchitecture. History and origins are, in fact, the anchor of today’s architecture. Look deep inside the place for all the elements that can help to design the project most adapted to the landscape, the meteorology, the habits of life, the traditions. This research opens up a balanced dialogue between architecture and nature.

LOT-EK is an award-winning architectural design studio based in New York and Naples, Italy. Founded in 1993 by Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano, LOT-EK has been involved with commercial, institutional and residential pro-jects globally. In addition, LOT-EK has conceived and executed exhibition design and site-specific installations for major cultural institutions and museums, including MoMA, the Whitney Museum, the Walker Art Center and the Guggenheim. LOT-EK has achieved high visibility for its sustainable and innovative approach to construction, materials and space, through the adaptive reuse (“upcycling”) of existing industrial objects and systems not originally intended for architecture.

LOT-EK is an experimental and radically sustainable design practice focused on the upcycling of manufactured objects and systems not originally in-tended for architectural use. We observe how these objects and systems exist and behave within their ‘natural habitat’: how they are stored, trans-ported, deployed and occupied. We apply physical and conceptual opera-tions to transform these objects, pushing the generic into the specific, the ordinary into the extraordinary, the single into the multiple—and back. We identify abundance in seeming scarcity, and the new in the old. LOT-EK occupies ever-more-deeply existing economies of scale in global sys-tems, and existing carbon footprints of decommissioned infrastructures. Our practice creatively diverts the delivery point of universal manufactu-ring, shipping and operating systems. Beyond mere recycling or adaptive re-use, LOT-EK’s vision is to catalyze new cycles of use: something from no-thing, somewhere from nowhere, the new made old again.

thibault ressyressy architectes

Thibault RESSY, with his 6 years of experience as project architect at the Fréderic Rolland interna-tional workshop in Shanghai, has acquired a complete vision of the business. Graduated from the Spe-cial School of Architecture in Paris in 2008 with the congratula-tions of the jury, he also studied and developed his HMO in Beijing at the end of 2009 at Gejianzhu Ar-chitecture with Nicolas GODELET as a mentor, which allowed him to expand his fieldbut also to open up to a new architecture and way of understanding its environment.

Able to handle very different scales and projects – be it a col-lective apartment building, of-fices, public equipment, a parti-cular house – it is important to always develop the same attention: that of an inventive and generous look that considers that we first make architecture for others.

Pascal Chazalhors site magazine

After 40 years of wood construc-tion, 3 factories created and 15,000 houses built, Pascal Chazal is now developing the off-site ecosystem in France.The Off-Site Group publishes the ma-gazine Off-Site, develops the Off-Site Campus, the first school dedi-cated to off-site and Patchconseil, the first consulting firm dedicated to off-site construction.

He is convinced that conventional on-site construction will find it increasingly difficult to meet the needs of our societies, the com-plexity of today’s buildings, com-bined with the growing shortage of skilled labour puts the system to failure.

The use of the methods of indus-trialization and prefabrication, opens us extremely promising ways, the off-site construction is a for-midable bridge between the world of real estate and that of indus-try, but be careful, this is a new paradigm for success, and it is ab-solutely necessary to understand what this means.

Laurent Graber looking for architecture

Architects, we approach all pro-grams with the same listening and sensitivity by focusing on the art of the proportions of the body in space.

But it is undoubtedly our expe-rience in events that led us to adopt a particular architecture in terms of space, time, landscape and users.Our practice of ephemeral has al-lowed us to build a vocabulary that we apply around the frame and envelope from the smallest scale to the largest. Real keys to everything, we offer installations, mobile structures, standard or non-standard architectures.

Our work is enriched through our collaborations with artists, arti-sans, industrialists or colleagues: as many partnerships as we orga-nize tailor-made according to the project and the client.
