It takes a broad view that ranges from the ground under your feet to your neighboring farms and communities, and from farm to market to consumer. To a farmer it means finding a style of farming that pays the bills, that the neighbors and community want to support and protect, and that your kids want to continue. To a scientist it means operating at the intersection of the agricultural disciplines, together with farmers. It means considering agriculture as a system, and seeing both problems and opportunities as properties that emerge from the system rather than one of its parts. To a student interested in agriculture, it means the framework for all of your courses and experience, no matter how broad your studies are, and the connection between your focused courses and Indonesian/JATIM agriculture. To an environmentalist it means a system of agriculture that enhances environmental qualities like biodiversity and is economically successful as well. To a businessperson it means entrepreneurial opportunities that enhance social and environmental bottom lines with equal importance to the economic one. To a consumer it means an agriculture that can be trusted to provide healthy food from a healthy ecosystem with a fair return to the farmer. To a policy maker it means that long-term simultaneous gains in environmental, social and economic dimensions outweigh short-term gains in any one area. How do we do it? Take a look at the projects we have going for some examples, and don’t hesitate to share your own ideas. We thrive on partnership.

Manajemen Tanaman

5 Masalah Pembangunan Pertanian

1. Penurunan kualitas dan kuantitas sumber daya lahan pertanian (C organik tanah 2% seharusnya minimal 2,5% atau bahan organik > 4,3%). (terus terjadi penciutan luas lahan pertanian yang beralih fungsi menjadi lahan bangunan dan industri)

2. Terbatasnya aspek ketersediaaninfrastruktur penunjang pertanian yang juga penting namun minim ialahpembangunan dan pengembangan waduk. (Total areal sawah di Indonesia sebesar7.230.183 ha, sumber airnya 11 persen(797.971 ha) berasal dari waduk, sementara89 persen (6.432.212 ha) berasal dari non-waduk.)

3. Kelemahan dalam sistem alihteknologi. (Ciri utama pertanian modern adalah produktivitas, efisiensi, mutu dankontinuitas pasokan yang terus menerusharus selalu meningkat dan terpelihara)

4. Terbatasnya akses layanan usahaterutama di permodalan. (Kemampuanpetani untuk membiayai usaha taninyasangat terbatas sehingga produktivitasyang dicapai masih di bawah produktivitaspotensial).

5. Masih panjangnya mata rantai tataniaga pertanian, (Sehinggamenyebabkan petani tidak dapatmenikmati harga yang lebih baik, karenapedagang telah mengambil untung terlalubesar dari hasil penjualan).

LAHAN KERING

SATARI(1977)

Adalah lahan yang dalam keadaan alamiah,lapisan atas

dan bawah tubuh tanah(topsoil dan sub soil) sepanjang

tahun tidak jenuh air dan tidak tergenang,serta kelembaban

tanah sepanjang tahun berada dibawah kapasitas lapang.

MULJADI(1977)

Adalah lahan yang hampir sepanjang tahun tidak

tergenang secara permanen.

AHLI TANAH INDONESIA

Adalah lahan dimana kebutuhan air tanaman tergantung se

penuhnya air hujan dan tidak pernah tergenang secara

tetap

LUAS LAHAN KERING DI INDONESIA

Luas lahan pertanian (lahan kering dan ba-

sah) di Indonesia 59,7 juta Ha sedang di

Jawa 9,6 juta Ha.

Luas lahan kering di Indonesia 51,7 juta Ha

sedang di Jawa 6,1 juta Ha.

Ini berarti di Indonesia 86,24 % lahan perta-

nian berupa lahan kering,sedang di Jawa

63,54% berupa lahan kering.

LAHAN KRITIS

Adalah lahan tidak produktif,dengan kondisi

yang tidak memungkinkan untuk diusaha-

kan sebagai lahan pertanian tanpa usaha

usaha rehabilitasi terlebih dahulu.Ini dise-

babkan karena lahan mengalami degradasi

yang diakibatkan oleh pengangkutan un-

sur hara bersama hasil panen,pencucian

hara dan erosi.

Luas lahan kritis di Indonesia 6,8 juta Ha,

1,3 juta Ha di Jawa.

Lahan terdegradasi, lahan pertanian yang ditinggalkan karena ditumbuhi

alang-alang, biaya produksi > pendapatan BONGKOR
