“Grooming and Inspiring The Young Leaders For Future Energy Roles”

9 December 2015, 08:30-21:30 Hosted by Kadir Has University at Kadir Has Caddesi No:1, Cibali, Fatih

Golden Horn, İstanbul

There is a growing gap in the quality of the energy sector’s executive leadership in governments, civil society groups, financial institutions and corporations.

The Bosphorus Energy Club is launching a “Young Leaders in Energy” initiative on 09 December 2015 in Istanbul in response to strong demand from young professionals and post-graduates, who aspire to advancing careers in energy, investment and geopolitics.

PwC Turkey provides a strong support in the preparations and awards. Kadir Has University has generously offered to host the launch event at its campus. Our members support its organisation and follow-up actions to emerge.

The Club is an informal, discreet and peer-to-peer channel of dialogue and partnership for executive leaders of energy in government, business, finance and international organisations across our region covering Eurasia, the Middle East, North Africa, the Gulf, South Asia and Southeast Europe. It provides an exclusive platform to consider energy, infrastructure and investment needs, share strategic knowledge, power network among the partners, develop innovative solutions, and help reduce geopolitical tensions.

Selection

Given that there are hundreds of potential candidates who wish to attend the Club’s “Young Leaders in Energy” programme, we want to select 100 potential young leaders on the basis of a two-page motivation letter in English that sets out: ❖ Who you are and why do you think we should select you; ❖ What issues and actions do you think we should focus on in this launch meeting; ❖ How you and other young people can contribute to this meeting and follow-up activities.

The letter should be addressed to [email protected], with a copy to [email protected] no later than 25 November 2015. Please include your full contact details and check the Club’s website for updates: www.bosphorusenergyclub.org Please share this announcement with the members of your group and other clubs at your university, organisation and company, which may be interested in participation.

We also encourage interested participants to take part in the awards competition for the top five best essays/projects on the basis of 3-page essay ([email protected], with a copy to [email protected]) on one of the following three questions:

❖ If you have a $5 million capital made available to you, how, where and why would you spend it to set up a new energy business? Please prepare a sound business statement, acceptable to financiers, and plan for consideration by the jury.

❖ What is the most burning and urgent single energy challenge in today’s world and how do you think governments and businesses should effectively address them?

❖ Would geopolitical confrontation or international/regional collaboration prevail in future cross-border energy and infrastructure projects?

Objectives

The programme aims at: ❖ Contributing towards efforts to enhance the quality of the energy sector’s executive

leadership,

❖ Inspiring new generational leaders with successful role models from around the world and connect them with industry professionals and leaders,

❖ Encouraging participation and networking by young members through the Club’s sessions and convening power,

❖ Mentoring young executives and graduates for participation and leadership in governmental, corporate and civil society organisations,

❖ Identifying future areas of work reflecting commonly shared interests and priorities.

The Main Issues For Discussion

❖ Address major game-changers and dynamics in global, regional and national energy markets in which young leaders will have to find possible roles and operate,

❖ Make available success stories of the “gurus”, well versed in energy, finance and geopolitics, with a view to sharing experiences, providing guidance and forecasting future prospects,

❖ Let career advisors, head-hunters and recruitment agencies inspire young professionals and graduates on what awaits them and how to seize the opportunities, and

❖ Encourage young leaders in energy to pursue some follow-up activities.
