Firm Asks City To Pay $40 Loan
An appeal to the "fair justice and mercy" of the Common Council's committee on finance was made yesterday by Jack's Jewelers * Loan Office, 474 William St., in a request for payment of a $40 loan.
In a communication filed with the city clerk's office, it was explained that Jack's Jewelers made the loan on a Burroughs adding machine on October 24, 1M7. After reporting the matter to the Police Department's pawn division, it was found the machine had been stolen from the offices of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority.
The company returned the machine to the MHA and since has had no luck in recovering its $40. Executive Director Howard A. Kelly of the MHA explained "the law prohibits us tram using public funds for this particular purpose."
