MSc in Management (Creative and Cultural Industries)This 12 month programme provides you with the essential knowledge andcritical skills you need to help you become a successful manager in the creativeand cultural sector. The course draws on the knowledge and workplaceexperience of a talented group of academics and combines the latest thinking in management theory with the practical and specialist skills that you needwithin your chosen field. You will gain a good understanding of the businessdemands of managing creative enterprises and cultural organisations withinthe modern globalised world.

In the first semester you will study core modules in people management,finance and marketing as well as spending time developing the personal and problem-solving skills you will need as a manager. During the Springsemester you will consolidate your knowledge with a core module in strategicmanagement but also have the opportunity to choose three electives from arange of options including marketing creative and cultural industries, culturalleadership and music management environments (See options below). Duringyour final semester you will submit a dissertation on a topic which hasstimulated your interest.

Profile of typical candidateThis programme is aimed at recentgraduates with a good degree in anysubject and who wish to develop agood understanding of managementprinciples and practice. You may bea recent graduate planning a careerin management or a professionallooking to move your career forwardin the creative and cultural sectors.Alternatively, you could be someonefrom a creative discipline – a dancer,musician, artist – who is looking toextend the employmentopportunities open to you.Our Careers Service is able toprovide excellent support forMasters students and will help youdevelop the skills you need toprogress your career. They are alsoable to put you in touch with avariety of different employers.

Entry specificationYou will need a good degree in anysubject (2:1 or higher) or approvedprofessional qualification combinedwith a desire to learn aboutmanagement principles andpractices. You do not need priormanagement experience.Our normal English requirement foroverseas students is IELTs 7.0 (withno less than 6 in each part). If youare unable to take IELTS we willconsider TOEFL 600 with TWE 4.5(paper-based) or TOEFL 260, TWE5.0 (computer-base) or equivalent.

The course will increase yourunderstanding of occupationalpsychology, develop a criticalappreciation of existing theory andpractice and help you acquire theskills necessary for research andpractice as an occupationalpsychologist. The course is taught bystaff of the Institute of WorkPsychology (IWP), which evolved fromthe Social and Applied PsychologyUnit, established by the MedicalResearch Council in 1968. IWP is a centre of excellence with oneof the largest groups of organisationalpsychology academics in Europe anda reputation for world-class research.We are committed to increasingunderstanding of occupational well-being and effectiveness andidentifying factors leading to theirenhancement. MSc in Work PsychologyThe MSc Course in Work Psychology (introduced 2008) provides a route for those studentswithout a BPS-recognised psychology degree (i.e., those who do not have the Graduate Basis ofChartership – see www.bps.org.uk/ ). The content and assessment of this course is exactly thesame as the Msc in Occupational Psychology; the difference is that the Work Psychologyqualification is not accredited by the BPS and therefore cannot be used for their chartershiproute. The course is taught by staff of the Institute of Work Psychology (IWP), which evolvedfrom the Social and Applied Psychology Unit, established by the Medical Research Council in 1968.

MSc in International ManagementThis 12 month Masters programme combines academic rigour with leading edgeresearch to provide a world-class international business education. You will gain a goodcritical understanding of specific challenges and opportunities facing multinationalsand organisations in key regions of the world. Drawing on the combined expertise of theManagement School together with our internationally-renowned School of East AsianStudies, you will study the styles of business conducted in the world economy�s fastestgrowing region, East Asia, as well as the more traditional English-speaking andEuropean markets. The programme content is practical so that you learn business skillsand real-world solutions you can apply within the workplace.

In the first two semesters you will study core modules (described below) and you cantake two options from a rich menu, including international marketing, negotiation andinter-cultural communication, Chinese business and Japanese business. Like the coremodules, these modules are taught by internationally-known experts in their field. You may also take a foundation module or two in any topic (like marketing oraccounting) where you may feel a need to go over the basics. There will also be theopportunity to take introductory modules in European and East Asian languages. In the third semester, you will submit a written dissertation on an internationalmanagement topic that interests you.

Profile of typical candidateThis programme is aimed at thosewith a good first degree in businessor management (single or dual) whowish to add an internationaldimension to their knowledge andgain a critical appreciation ofmanagement principles andpractice. Learning from experts inthe relevant fields, you will gain anacademic qualification ideally suitedto prepare you for work in amultinational company. This coursewill provide an excellent groundingin the reality and specifics of doingbusiness across the world,particularly in Europe, East Asia, andthe English-speaking countries.

Entry specificationYou will need a good degree in anysubject (normally 2:1 or higher) orapproved professional qualificationcombined with a desire to learnabout management principles andpractices. You do not need priormanagement experience.Our normal English requirement foroverseas students is IELTs 7.0 (withno less than 6 in each part). If youare unable to take IELTS we willconsider TOEFL 600 with TWE 4.5(paper-based) or TOEFL 260, TWE5.0 (computer-based) or equivalent.
