The day began with a snowshoe tour through the soft spring snow. For a pure competition climber such as Yuka Kobayashi from Japan, this form of endurance sport was more like an ordeal than a tour. And it was not until the actual shooting location had been reached that real strength was required. The athletes climbed 30 meters of vertically hanging ropes using jumars until everybody had come to a stop in a horizontal line. Only after nearly two hours, when the last participant was in position, did the photographer Röbi Bösch snap the shot and thereby relieve the Mammut climbers. The new Mammut campaign photo shows that you can rely 100 % on your Mammut equipment in any situation.Shooting location

Off to the experts’ meeting. They came from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Japan, the USA, Slovenia and Italy. No journey was too long to prevent the top athletes from taking part in the Testevent on the Klausen Pass. The aim was to test the quality of Mammut climbing harnesses and high-performance ropes on the mountain and to shoot the new campaign photo. David Lama: “I have never been hanging motionless from a rope for over two hours. In the same time I would have climbed a 500-meter wall with a partner.”

Hi Anna, what do you do when you’re scared?

Fear plays an important role in climbing. With

concentration and motivation the fear disappears.

A little fear, however, is also helpful!

Hi David, how much power can you generate when

you press thumb and index fi nger of one hand

together?

You cannot really measure this. But I have so much

strength in my hand that you would be well advised not

to put your fi ngers in between.

Salut Yuka, what do you like to eat and drink best when

you do not have to worry about your climbing fi gure?

I love Japanese food, sushi, vegetables with soy sauce

as well as spaghetti, omelettes and sweets. And my

favourite drinks are grapefruit juice and cocoa.

Interviews with our top athletes.

Yuka Kobayashi, Japanese climbing athlete

Mammut Workshops

Mountains of work for athletes and developers.A great deal of experience from the world’s best climbers has been incorporated in Mammut products. During this Testevent, for example, climbing harnesses and other equipment were thoroughly tested – and then discussed equally thoroughly with product managers. We appreciate the cooperation from our top athletes in the development of the products. Their experience and feedback are important to us. As a thank you, we invited all participants, after a long day, to a seven-course meal served by Mammut employees for their athletes.

Climbing is your passion?Ours too!During the summer of 2011, everything will be under the banner of verticalness at Mammut. Climbing is our passion and we want you to be part of it. Every week we will provide you with news about climbing in the Mammut Climbing Blog.

Mammut rope production

Every Mammut® rope is 100 % produced in Switzerland. As a raw material, Mammut uses yarns made of high-quality polyamide 6 (nylon).

Several yarns are spun together to make a twine. Three twines are then combined to form a strand. A number of these strands form the core of the rope.

In the next stage, the twines are coated and thermally shrunk.

The sheath twines are braided around the core strands on the braiding machine.

Every single metre of rope is checked electronically for any inconsistency. In Mammut’s® test lab and drop tower, every single production batch is tested for all relevant specifi cations to maintain consistent performance standards.

The combination of innovation and tradition.Nowhere does the addition “Made in Switzerland” have such a reassuring effect than several hundred meters above the ground. For nearly 150 years, Mammut has been producing ropes of the highest quality. Every meter of rope is produced at Mammut’s headquarters in Switzerland and tested extensively. This applies to both the robust single rope as well as the extremely light alpine climbing rope for professionals.

Peruvian mountain guides. Sponsored by Mammut.Magnifi cent mountain scenery of rock and ice, stunning volcanoes and numerous peaks over 6000 meters high. – For many outdoor enthusiasts Peru gets their pulse racing. This time, neither peak nor rock face is the focus of the Mammut Sports Group AG. Rather, the passion for mountain sports is based on a social commitment in the country aimed at promoting mountain sports in a sustainable manner. As part of the partnership with the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) and in cooperation with the Swiss non-governmental organisation Swiss-contact and the “Cooperación Alpinista Suiza-Perú”, Mammut supports and promotes mountain guide training in Peru. So our descendants can also be mountaineers. For further information: www.mammut.ch/cr

Spectacular winter ascent.Stephan Siegrist is an experienced Patagonian explorer. He has already stood on all four summits of the Cerro Torre group. This time the aim was to complete the fi rst winter ascent of the Torre Egger (2685 m). Despite temperatures of minus 25 degrees, new snow that at times came up to their hips and the extremely short winter days with little daylight, he and his partners Dani Arnold and Thomas Senf succeeded in putting his plan into action. Taking advantage of the fi rst spell of fi ne weather and operating at full speed for three days and three nights, the three mountaineers reached the summit of the Torre Egger at midday on August 3rd. They completed the ascent in fl awless alpine style, with no prior set up of fi xed ropes or equipment stores. Quote from Stephan Siegrist: “It will take us a few days to take it in and appreciate our luck! We were prepared for everything, apart from the possibility of climbing it so quickly.”

150 years Mammut. If that’s not a reason to celebrate! And with the ultimate Testevent, we celebrate this occasion the way we do best: with outdoor enthusiasts on the most beautiful peaks on Earth. From August 2011, 150 teams will embark upon the biggest peak project in history and scale 150 mountains over a period of one year.

Over the last months, countless mountain enthusiasts have competed online for the highest virtual peak. For the 100 best teams, Mammut will offer the opportunity to take part in the largest Testevent of all time. Equipped with the new, unique anniversary collection and guided by an IFMGA-certifi ed mountain guide, the rope teams can make their summit dreams come true. Via our website, we will follow all tours with photos and articles so that the folks back home can share in the experiences.

A spectacular project requires a brilliant kick-off: In early August we will celebrate for one week on the Jungfraujoch. A base camp for some 200 people on the Top of Europe is the setting for the fi rst of the 150 summit tours, the shooting of the new key visuals and a Fun Day in one of the most beautiful regions of the Alps.

We look forward to the biggest Testevent ever!
