Welcome back to Fourth Quarter!

Wow! As I wrote that I had to shake it off a little! It is so hard to believe that our 14th year as a DCSD Charter school year is almost over. On behalf of the Staff and Administration we hope you all had an awesome Spring Break with your families.

Fourth Quarter has traditionally been a time when we wrap up learning for the year and throw in a lot of fun things for the students. Good morning Mammoth Parents,

I write to you this morning as a very concerned and rather frightened principal, and as the mother of two former C2E students.

I was very disturbed to learn that one of our C2E students was very nearly struck by a car while he was crossing Carlson this morning. The student did everything right. He used the crosswalk and looked both ways before attempting to cross. The driver would have struck him had he not started running. The driver was going too fast in the school zone and completely disregarded the crosswalk. When our police officer pulled the car over, the driver argued with him saying “the kid ran out in front of me.”

I know all this because the police are videotaping our drop off and pick up now. I will be staffing the crosswalk in the morning from now on. I need your help. If you can volunteer to help staff the crosswalk even one day a week, in the morning, I would be sincerely indebted to you. I also need you all to remember that each child that attends this school is just that, a child; a precious member of a family who loves them as dearly as you love your own children. They are also a vitally, important and loved member of the C2E family. As members of the C2E family, and adults, it is our collective duty to watch out for the precious children and to drive carefully and slowly whilst in the school zone.

I know I can count on you all for this. We can insure the collective safety of our children. We just need some help from you.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Linda Parker, M. Ed Principal Challenge to Excellence

SAC Needs Your Help!

There are 2 Positions Available on SAC:

What does the SAC do? SAC works with C2E administration to adopt the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) that addresses goals and objectives for improvements in education at C2E.

SAC reviews the schools testing data (ie: I-Ready and PARCC) to help offer recommendations to the C2E Administration for ways to keep striving for excellence in all of the core fundamental educational elements of reading, math, writing, science and technology.

SAC also focuses on safety at and around the school! Safety is top of mind for administration and parents.

Who is the School Accountability Committee (SAC)? The SAC is a committee comprised of seven voting members: three elected parent representatives, one PVA parent representative, our principal or designee, one teacher representative and one community representative.

When do we meet? The SAC meets one morning a month at 8:00 am. All meetings are open forum.

There will be (2) Parent Vacancies for the 2016/2017 School Year and elections will be held this Spring. Parents who are interested need to complete the “Letter of Intent to Run” and either submit it to the front office or email it to [email protected].

We will be voting in our new members at our next meeting April 21st, 2016 at 8:00am in the C2E Conference Room.

The “Letter of Intent to Run” must be submitted to the SAC on or before the end of business day April 15th, 2016.

Spring has officially sprung! While it makes for beautiful blooming flowers and the fresh smell of rain, it also brings afternoon storms. Please remember to follow our Lightning Dismissal Protocol (outlined below and taken from the C2E Parent/Student Handbook) when you see the Lightning Flag hanging outside. It is imperative that we keep all our students, parents, and staff safe during this time of year when the weather can be ever changing. When lightning has been spotted in the area, for each child’s safety, C2E follows the Douglas County Lightning Dismissal Procedure: parents are required to walk to the front door and retrieve their children. If you are uncomfortable leaving your vehicle, please park in a designated parking space and wait for the storm to pass. As soon as 30 minutes has passed without lightning being spotted, normal dismissal will resume. A lightning flag (pictured) is posted on the front of the building to inform parents of lightning dismissal.

In addition, we will do our best to also post an announcement via the electronic sign. Students who walk home from school will not be dismissed until lightning has not been spotted for 30 minutes.

The Douglas County School District Art Exhibition was a huge success! 58 students, and every grade from Challenge To Excellence were represented in the show. We entered artwork in the Jewelry Category this year, and received an honorable mention. If you missed the show, artwork can still be seen in the hall next to the gym, and in the library. It will be on display until April 15th.

Hello Everyone!

This sign-up will be our last for this school year but it will be the most important one!! We will be CELEBRATING Teacher/Staff Appreciation for the entire week of May 2nd - May 6th. Please note while signing up that some items need to be delivered to the school no later than April 29th in preparation for the week ahead. Also, all gift cards can be turned in at the front desk at C2E by April 29th.

We have an event each day planned for our Staff and Teachers! We want them to feel honored, appreciated, and loved by our C2E family. This is our opportunity to give back to the ones that not only teach our children, but encourage, direct, challenge, motivate, and inspire them!

This is how we have planned to Celebrate this week.

Monday, May 2nd Teachers, Staff members, Parents and Students will arrive Monday morning with door posters that will be on each classroom door. Room parents will be coordinating decorations for homeroom teachers but we could use extra volunteers for each special's door. Best classroom door will be announced later in the week. We want to WOW our teacher/staff members to start the week!

Tuesday, May 3rd Donated gifts and flowers provided by this sign-up will be given to each teacher and staff member.

Wednesday, May 4th Lunch will be provided from Chick-fil-A for teachers and staff members! This is being paid for by Spirit Night earnings thanks to your support at this event earlier this year.

Thursday, May 5th Candy Bar!!! A candy bar will fill the teachers and staff members with plenty of sugar on Thursday.

Friday, May 6th A Breakfast Bar will be provided at 7:30 a.m. for teachers and staff. Please note time when signing up.

Also, we will have a drawing for a $25 gift card each day for a teacher or staff member.

We would love for you to participate in whichever way you can BEST use your talent and/or time for the organized PVA Appreciation activities for this week, but we also welcome personal gestures/gifts from families!

Spirit Wear Day9:

Last Spirit Wear Day of this School Year: Friday, May 6th Wow, there is only one Spirit Wear day left in this school year!

Help your kids show their school spirit by ordering quality C2E uniform-approved Spirit Wear items from our providers, Threaded Ink, right here in Parker. Go to their website (www.threadedinkmedia.com - go to School Stores and choose C2E), order, and pick up at your convenience.

On designated “Spirit Wear” days, usually the first Friday of the month, Spirit Wear may be worn with uniform bottoms.
