Battle of New Orleans(Lonnie Donegan)

Spoken: Well, this here’s the story of the Battle of New Orleans, which was fit

between Yankees a coast and the English people, in which the

British came off rather ignominiously.

1 [C] Well, in 1814, we [F] took a little trip,

[G7] along with Colonel Packenham down the [C] mighty Mississipp.

[C] We took a little bacon and we [F] took a little beans, and we

[G7] fought the bloomin’ British in the [C] town of New Orleans

Chorus: Well, we [C] fired our guns and the British kept a comin',

But there wasn't as many as there was a [G7] while [C] ago.

We fired once more and they began a running,

on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of [G7] Mexi-[C]-co.

2 Well, we looked down the river till we see the British come,

there must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum.

They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring,

well, we stood beside our cotton bales and never said a thing.

Chorus

3 Well, Packenham said we could take ‘em by surprise,

if we didn't fire a musket till we looked `em in the eyes.

Well, we stood quite still till we see their face well,

then we opened up our muskets and we really gave ‘em well.

Chorus

4 Well, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles,

and they ran through the bushes where the rabbits couldn't go.

They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch ‘em,

all down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Chorus

5 Well, we fired our muskets so the barrels melted down,

then grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.

Well, we stuffed his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind,

so when we touched the powder off, the 'gator lost his mind.

Chorus

Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. (4x)

My Old Man’s a Dustman(Lonnie Donegan)

1 [G] Now here's a [B7] little [Em] story to [A7] tell it is a [D] must[G] About an [B7] unsung [Em] hero that [A7] moves away your [D] dust [A7] Some people [D7] make a [A7] fortune, other's [D7] earn a [A7] mint [A7] My old [D7] man don't [A7] earn much,[A7] In fact....he's [D7] flippin'..... [A7] skint

C [G] Oh! my old man's a dustman he wears a dustman's [D] hat[D] He wears cor blimey trousers and he lives in a council [G] flat[G] He looks a proper narna in his great big hob nailed [C] bootsHe's [D] got such a job to pull ‘em up that he calls them daisy [G] roots

2 Some folks give tips at Christmas and some of them forgetSo when he picks their bins up he spills some on the stepsNow one old man got nasty and to the council wroteNext time my old man went 'round there he punched him up the throat

Chorus

(spoken) I say I say Duncan! I 'er...I found a police dog in my dustbin (How do you know he's a police dog?) He had a policeman with him

3 Though my old man's a dustman he's got a heart of goldHe got married recently though he's 86 years oldWe said 'Ere! Hang on Dad you're getting past your prime'He said 'Well when you get to my age it helps to pass the time'

Chorus

(spoken) I say I say I say! My dustbins full of lillies (Well throw 'em away then)I can't Lilly's wearing them

4 Now one day while in a hurry he missed a lady's bin He hadn't gone but a few yards when she chased after him 'What game do you think you're playing' she cried right from the heart'You've missed me...am I too late?' 'No... jump up on the cart'

Chorus

(spoken) I say I say I say (What you again!) My dustbin's absolutely full with toadstools (How do you know it's full) 'Cos there's not much room inside

5 He found a tiger's head one day, nailed to a piece of woodThe tiger looked quite miserable but I suppose it should Just then from out a window, a voice began to wail He said (Oi! Where's me tiger head) Four foot from it's tail

Chorus

6 Next time you see a dustman looking all pale and sadDon't kick him in the dustbin it might be my old dad

You Can't Be A Pirate (Don Freed/Tom Lewis) 1 [D] Being a pirate is all fun and games, till somebody loses an [A7] ear. It drips down your neck then it falls on the deck ‘Til someone shouts, “What's this [D] ‘ere? You can’t wear your glasses; you can't pull the lasses, And [D7] folks have to shout so you'll [G] hear [G] Being a pirate is [D] all fun and games ‘til [A7] somebody loses an [D] ear. C Oh It's [G] all part of being a [D] pirate, You can't be a [A7] pirate with all of your [D] parts. It's [G] all part of being a [D] pirate You can't be a [A7] pirate with all of your [D] parts. 2 Being a pirate is all fun and games, till somebody loses a hand. It squirts and it spurts and it bloody well hurts, Pain only a pirate can stand. The fashionable look is a nice metal hook But then you can't play in the band. Being a pirate is all fun and games ‘til somebody loses a hand. 3 Being a pirate is all fun and games, till somebody loses an eye. It stings like the blazes; it makes you make faces, But you can't let your mates see you cry A dashing black patch will cover the hatch And make sure your socket stays dry. Being a pirate is all fun and games ‘til somebody loses an eye. 4 Being a pirate is all fun and games till somebody loses a leg. It hurts like the dickens, your pace never quickens Hobbling around on a peg. Ask your sweetheart to marry, but too long you’ve tarried And now you can't kneel down and beg. Being a pirate is all fun and games ‘til somebody loses a leg. 5 Being a pirate is all fun and games till somebody loses a ‘whatsit’ You didn't choose it, but you'd sure hate to lose it And your hoping that somebody spots it. Then the doc comes along and sews it back on, Or he ties it up tight and he knots it. Being a pirate is all fun & games ‘til somebody loses a ‘whatsit’ 6 Being a pirate is all fun and games till somebody loses a head. It falls with a thud and it’s covered in blood And your beard is all sticky and red. You can’t comb your hair cause your head’s over there And besides that by now you’ll be dead. Being a pirate is all fun and games ‘til somebody loses a head. Chorus x 2
