Maltese Contemporary Art in Washington D.C. The Embassy of Malta in the United States of America is a beautiful, historical build- ing on Connecticut Avenue in the heart of Washington D.C. Built in the early years of the twentieth century, it is an example of Colonial Revival architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Ambassador of Malta, H.E. Pierre Clive Agius, plans to turn this build- ing in the Kalorama Triangle Historic Dis- trict of Washington D.C. into a small 'mu- seum' of contemporary Maltese art focus- ing in particular on photography, prints and drawings. This permanent collection will serve as an international spotlight on current artistic practices in Malta that can be appreciated by international guests. including art-lovers involved in the Wash- ington D.C cultural scene as well as digni- taries. Each work will be accompanied by professional museum-style captions with information about the artist and piece on display. Moreover, a catalogue on "Mal- tese Contemporary Art in Washington D.C." designed by a professional graphic designer is being produced for the inau- guration of this collection at the Embassy and copies of this publication will be of- fered to VIP visitors. Professional help is also being sought to help in the actual layout of the collection.

Maltese Contemporary Art in Washington D.C.

The Embassy of Malta in the United States of America is a beautiful, historical build-ing on Connecticut Avenue in the heart of Washington D.C. Unfortunately, limited funds do not permit the Embassy to purchase these works but in return for donations of works, each piece in the collection will be included in the catalogue along with a bio note on each artist. Moreover, every artist will receive five free copies of the catalogue, and artists'  contact de-tails or personal websites will be dis-seminated to interested persons at the Embassy.  Every donated work will be included in the official inventory of the chancery, ensuring accountability and traceability.

 

Dimensions of works on paper should not exceed 40 x 50 cm. Works in other

media can also be considered. Maltese artists who are interested in becoming part of this permanent collection in Washington D.C. are to contact the Em-bassy by sending photographs of the works they wish to donate by email to [email protected] by 31st May, 2016.  Emails and queries re-lated to this call will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.  A final selection of works to be displayed at the Embassy will be made by 14th June, 2016 and artists will be contacted individually. Se-lected works  can be delivered un-framed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Valletta and will be professionally framed by the Embassy in Washington D.C.
