Dear Parents and Friends, End of year celebraon and Year 6 graduaon. Next Monday we have our end of year BBQ and Year 6 graduaon. The evening is always a lovely way to acknowledge the me our Year 6 students have been here and the contribuons they have made to our school. Please make sure you have completed the note in the newsleer so we know how many people to expect and do try to come along. As a school community it is important that we all wish our Year 6 students the very best and help them to celebrate this milestone. How do you teach a Grade 2/3/4? Thank you to those parents who have let us know that they are happy with the grade splits for 2016 and thank you to those parents who came and asked us quesons about how we will teach across 3 year levels like in a Grade 2/3/4. Let me start by saying that teaching and learning has certainly changed since I was at school and probably even since many of you were at school. When I was at school you did the work for the year level you were in whether that work was too easy, too hard or just right. If you were in Grade 4 you worked your way through the Grade 4 workbooks and that was that. Now when we plan for our students we look at the assessment data for that child, we think about what else we know of that child such as special interests and talents, we look at the curriculum for the child’s year level and what they are expected to learn. It might be that for a parcular Year 3 child they are working ‘well above level’ in reading but are working ‘at level’ in wring. This means that they will be working towards Year 4 or 5 outcomes for reading but Year 3 outcomes for wring. We already work this way in our classrooms which means we might have students working across 3 or 4 years levels, somemes more! At Malmsbury Primary School we work hard to ensure we are teaching what your child needs to learn next to keep them achieving their best. In 2016 the Grade 2/3/4 classrooms will be where the current Grade 3/4 and 5/6 grades are. Our Grade 5/6 will be in the current Grade 1/2 classroom. OSHC posion. This week and next we will be adversing for an OSHC co-ordinator for 2016. The ad will be in the Macedon Ranges Guardian and Castlemaine Mail this Friday and next weeks Midland Express. If you know someone who might be interested please ask them to contact us for a copy of the job descripon. Warm regards, Carolyn Tavener. Dear Parents and Friends,

End of year celebration and Year 6 graduation. Next Monday we have our end of year BBQ and Year 6 graduation. The evening is always a lovely way to acknowledge the time our Year 6 students have been here and the contributions they have made to our school. Please make sure you have completed the note in the newsletter so we know how many people to expect and do try to come along. As a school community it is important that we all wish our Year 6 students the very best and help them to celebrate this milestone.

How do you teach a Grade 2/3/4? Thank you to those parents who have let us know that they are happy with the grade splits for 2016 and thank you to those parents who came and asked us questions about how we will teach across 3 year levels like in a Grade 2/3/4. It might be that for a particular Year 3 child they are working ‘well above level’ in reading but are working ‘at level’ in writing. This means that they will be working towards Year 4 or 5 outcomes for reading but Year 3 outcomes for writing. We already work this way in our classrooms which means we might have students working across 3 or 4 years levels, sometimes more!

OSHC position. This week and next we will be advertising for an OSHC co-ordinator for 2016. The ad will be in the Macedon Ranges Guardian and Castlemaine Mail this Friday and next weeks Midland Express. If you know someone who might be interested please ask them to contact us for a copy of the job description.

2016 Curriculum Days. Last week School Council approved our curriculum days for next year. The dates are 27th January (all state schools have this as their first curriculum day), 8th March, 14th June and 12th October. On these dates we will be attending a Bastow course entitled “Creating a high performance learning cul-ture”. Please take note of these dates and put them in your 2016 calendar or diary.

It’s time to search under beds, couches, chairs and on your bookshelves at home so all school books, includ-ing home reading and library books, can be returned to school next week!

Parents Club. Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Woolworths BBQ on Saturday and thanks to Mark from IGA who donated some extra sausages when we sold out! It was a hot day and a difficult time of year to find volunteers, but we did and we raised $730 for the school! We also spoke to lots of people about our wonderful school and many people signed our petition to Save our Music/ French Room. This brings our total raised this year to just over $6000!! A fantastic effort everyone! The end of year celebration and graduation BBQ is on next Monday 14th. Don’t forget to get your reply slips in to let us know whether you can come and whether you can make a salad. We will also need a couple of volun-teers to man the BBQ on the night. Please let Deb, Olivia or Kathryn know if you can help. Our final meeting will be this Friday at Motobean at 9am - but it will be more of a social catchup and thank you. All are welcome!

Thanks, Parents Club. Second Hand Uniform stall. Often we have school uniforms donated back to the school when students move on. These uniforms are used for when our students need a replacement uni-form for the day and are given to families who require uniform support. As part of our recent uniform policy review School Council has decided that when we have an excess of these second hand uniforms we will have a second hand uniform stall so all our parents can pick up some extra items for their child/ren. Tomorrow we will have our first second hand uniform stall at the front of the school with a donation tin. Please feel free to take items your child/ren can use and, if you can, pop a donation in the tin. School sunsmart hats. Our students should be wearing a school sunsmart hat with the school logo and it needs to be in good repair with no writing on it. Please make sure you check your child’s school hat to see if you need to purchase a new one or if it needs a wash over the holidays. There are some very ragged looking hats on some of our student’s heads!

Grounds maintenance roster. We rely on our parents to help keep our school grounds looking neat and tidy and that includes over the school holidays. Please check the roster below to see when it will be your turn to come and do some jobs. We need our school grounds to be kept neat and tidy so they are ready for the start of the 2016 school year. Please make sure you find time to help otherwise the school will have to pay someone to do the jobs and we would rather have that money going to resources for our students to use. If anyone has time to leaf blow the undercover area Monday morning that would be very helpful! We will also need some areas of the garden watered as well as our Gallipoli pine tree. Please let Carolyn know if you will be around over the holidays to do some water-ing. Thank you.

OSHC. The children and I have been busy making decorations for our OSHC Christmas tree and It looks wonderful. Next week is a big week at our OSHC as we will have heaps of extra activities we haven't done before includ-ing a pinata on Thursday! If you're thinking of being a part of OSHC next year come in and check it out next week. From Zoe.
