THE CITY

Malmö was founded during the rst half of the 1300th century and has been under Danish crown. Malmö becameSwedish in 1658 but it took almost 200 years before theintegration bore fruit.

As an industrial city, Malmö ourished right up until the shipbuilding industry declined in the early 1970's – withemigration and failing self-condence as a consequence. But in recent years, Malmö has lifted itself again – andwith a vengeance. In June 2000, the Öresund Bridgereconnected the city with Denmark. The following year, theHousing Exhibition nally opened the city up to thewaterfront and Europe’s tallest – and perhaps mostspectacular – apartment block was built. Turning Torsorises up in the old shipyard district and attracts largenumbers of fascinated spectators. In the surroundingdistrict, the University and knowledge-intensive companiesare competing for the palatial new oces.

The city has been rejuvenated and revitalized, while immigration is continually breaking new records. There arefoundations for the newly-won optimism of Malmö’sresidents. Copenhagen is needed less and less. But, just incase you want to go there, "the village" is still there –closer than ever - with three train departures per hour.

Parks form a natural element in the city of Malmö. For pick-nicks and slow walks the Kungsparken andSlottsparken are the given places. Pildammsparken oerslarge open areas and two large lakes that attracts a rich

bird life.

Head to Möllevångstorget with its open market. In this lively square trade you will nd almost any- and everythingwhilst soaking up the special air of “Möllan”. Those whoare hungry will be pleased to hear that this area is theeatery densest meeting place throughout Malmö.Those who are looking for a party can nd several clubs with a wide variety of music in the Möllevången area. KB,Babel, Debaser, the Moorish Pavilion and Cuba Café are afew well known examples.

The rich variety of restaurants attracts with scents from all the world’s cuisines. Malmö has a rich cultural life withperformances, galleries and museums. In recent yearsMalmö has built two large Stadiums, Malmö Arena andSwedbankstadion, both of which are relying on large publicevents, and sport of course! It’s easy to get to the arenasby bus and train.

Malmö oers proximity to Copenhagen and Oresund Bridge boasts between the two cities. It is one of thelargest architectural structures in Europe and it takes lessthan 15 minutes to cross the 8 km long bridge.Communication is good, with departures every 20minutes, during the day, all days. Take a day trip and govisit Tivoli and do some shopping in the Danish"byen"(village). Proximity to Copenhagen are even morenotable, since the City tunnel was opened in December2010.
