    History:

Maktoob was founded in 1998 by SamihToukan and Hussam Khoury who were able tointroduce a free email service with Arabicsupport for emails when no other free emailservice had such support.

They also helped users who did not haveArabic Keyboards or browsers that supportArabic to send and receive emails by using avirtual keyboard which was done in Java, andusing Java applets that had better Arabicsupport.

The initial flourish of Maktoob and its largeuser base led the company to create severalservices and content channels for Arab users, many of which were not found previously inArabic format.
