Firstly, in this unit there are rules in the workshop. Which, consists of two rules. They are :-

Safety rulesAreas in the workshop is restricted to authorized

personnel only.No machine may be used or undertaken.PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is provided

and must be used where necessary.Do not carry loads that may be dangerous or vision

obscured.Report any defective equipment.Equipment should never be used if the safety guards

have been removedSmoking, eating and drinking in the workshop areas

is strictly prohibited.

continued…The gangway through the workshop must be kept

clear.Equipment must be cleaned after use.Precision measuring equipments, must be replaced

in their appropriate cabinets.All accidents and incidents must be reported.Tools and equipment must not be removed from the

workshop.Any materials, tools or equipment used must be

tidied away.In case of fire, act in accordance with the FIRE

ACTION NOTICES displayed throughout the building.

Next

Floor are to be kept tidy and dry.Benches are to be kept clean and free from

chemicals and apparatus that are not being used.

Aisles and exits are to be kept from obstruction.Bottles and glassware are to be kept off the

floor.Access to all emergency equipment is to be kept

free from obstruction.Work areas and equipment are to be thoroughly

cleaned after use.If last to leave the workshop, make sure all

equipment is turned off.

Emergency proceduresIn the event of fire or other emergency that may

endanger staff and students the following procedures apply :- Alert others in the immediate area, incase there is fire. Inform the nearest building warden or workshop

supervisor. When an alarm is raised proceed quickly to the nearest

emergency exit. After leaving the workshop/staffroom, proceed to the

assembly area. DO NOT return to the building until the “All Clear” is

given by the workshop supervisor.
