Youth Day CelebrationsMalamulele Youth - An Initiation of a Groundbreaking Project

In a sunny 16 June morning, youths in Malamulele filed through the main entrance of the Malamulele sport grounds at Malamulele. The purpose of the event was to celebrate youth day through recreational and sport activities.

Youths from at least four local schools attended and participated in activities such as drama, poetry, organised dancing and sport competitions. The schools which participated are the academically successful EPP Mhinga High, Magangeni Primary, Malamulele High and Langutani Primary.

The inaugural event, to be followed by many through the year, was arranged and organized by a team of three youths under the umbrella of Malamulele Sport, Arts and Culture Union. Thembisile Hlekane of said union is a university student and says that the union’s objective is to try to bring the youths together through sporting codes. They also hope to unify all sporting codes, arts and cultural codes in the whole of Thulamela. According to Thembisile, they will try to seek funding from the relevant institutions in the land and will be organising soccer tournaments and arts competitions, where prizes might

be awarded to groups and individuals who managed to excel. “Our main purpose is to see that we create an environment where youths realize the danger of substance abuse and alcohol abuse,” he explained. “We feel happy that in our area youths seem to understand that criminal activities are not for them.”

The competition judges expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the participants. Mrs G Magezi, a local teacher and project mentor says that she is pleased with the overall success of the project and hopes that the youth will still achieve more. “This is only the first time that our youths came together to showcase their talents and interact,” said Mrs Magazi. “Everything went well. We thank all people who supported us, including Makoya.”

One of the youths, Germina Nkosi (15), enjoyed the day at the sport grounds and said she hoped that more events of this nature would happen again in Malamulele, because youths needed a platform where they could interact and express themselves freely. “It makes me feel positive,” Germina said. “After watching and participating in today’s activities, I just feel that I’ll be a better somebody in life.”

Youth of Arise and ShineBible Church

celebrates Youth Day

* By Mulalo Hulumeni

As the annual celebration of youth day the youth of Arise and Shine Bible Church decided to celebrate, remember and to salute the youth of 1976 who died fighting against the teaching of Afrikaans.

Arise and Shine Bible Church is located at Dopeni in Nzhelele under the great leadership of pastor T. RAMADI, and the theme of the day was, “we are leaders and not followers.’’ After weeks of practicing and preparing the day finally arrived and turned out be more than was expected, where the youth of different churches came together to celebrate the day. The event took place at Arise and Shine bible church and the focus was more on giving the youth the platform to showcase their talents such as poetry, singing and dance. The day wouldn’t have happened without the help of Pastor Ravhugoni. After all the singing and dancing pastor

Ramadi gave his message to the youth; Be original and not a copy; to fail is part of life so don’t blame yourself, but next time learn from your mistake and remember, failure is the beginning of wisdom” Those are the little words I can share with you from a man who did wonders among the people of his homeland, a leader and not a follower, pastor Ramadi. After the message, a soccer match was played thanks to Mr Matamela who donated soccer kits to the soccer team.

Then came lunch which was donated by Mr Negodza. We hope to have a bigger turn out next year, where more youth can learn more about being original.

It’s Makoya’s Tshifhiwa with some of the youths in Malamulele.

* By Ntsieni Tshisevhe

Moudy Mudzielwana was born some thirty three years ago, in the village of Tshixwadza.

Today, he is a businessman of note in the environmental sciences, a profession which many of us rarely choose to go for. He studied for a BSc Environmetal Sciences at the University of Venda. He heads Tshikovha Environmental and Communication Consulting, an accredited training service provider on environment and waste.* You are still young, and you have started a Business. When and how did you find out that you are a businessman?

I like studying to improve my knowledge in my area of education. I hate to do anything without value and when I worked with companies I was too strong for my seniors and would get business through tendering which made me realise that I was better off by myself than being in an environment which was not functional. I resigned from my previous employment in 2007 to concentrate on Tshikovha Environmental and Communication Consulting, which was established in 2005. Since then I’ve never looked back.* Who or what motivated or inspired you?

My father. He looked after many people. We all went to school through his efforts. Business-wise, I was inspired by Alice Vorster who used to work for Caxton Limited. She made me realise who I am and gave me a scholarship to study Journalism. Also Mr. Solly Manyaka. I’ve younger brothers, friends and cousins who mean a lot to me.* How many projects have you worked on so far?

I’ve been around and remember I’ve always worked in a time-based environment. I’ve been involved in many Environmental Impact Assessment Projects. I can note the Development of General Waste Facility Standards for Gauteng, which was my most

interesting project as it wwould always reflect my knowledge in waste and environment. I still want to contribute more in Environment and Waste Management in Limpopo. I would wish Municipalities, Universities, FETs, Colleges, Radios, Newspapers, Unions and Programmes would provide an opportunity for more forums and workshops so we can share information I have. There is nothing we can do if we spend time identifying problems, without doing anything about them.* You are one of the leading young businessmen. How do you feel about that?

I am happy with the progress so far but there is more work to be done. I’ve studied Business Turn Around Strategy at University of Johannesburg. I am an entrepreneur who believes in independent business. Tshikovha Environmental and Communication Consulting is a brand that compete within big industries. * When at school or in the streets, what do your peers say to you and about you in terms of business?

There is always a difference. I started my business in an environment which was demanding and how you represent yourself matters hence some do not understand how I could have made it. The perception is that I have achieved so much and have wealth based on the branding of the business. Sometimes people think you are high class and untouchable whilst I am totally different, though not predictable. Only thing that friends and families should understand is that one cannot avoid them intentionally.* How do you manage you family, school, business and social life, considering your age and the fact that your business is growing?

I do not consider myself young anymore. If we had

correct education I would have been far. I was raised properly and I believe in marriage but the woman married to me should understand how I make a living. I’ll never compromise my vision for love or relationship, social life is quite limited in my life. * How is your relationship with your employees?

Good. Thierteen people coming from Venda work for me and we relate well. I love all my employees and they are proud of me. About 16 people who have worked with me since my first employee in 2007, have moved on to better jobs.* What are your future plans?

Tshikovha Environmental and Communication Consulting is a brand built upon pillars of BBBEE in the country. I want to see youth development being considered as a tool for economic freedom. We cannot fight for economic freedom whilst our youth are not involved in relevant youth programmes. My wish is to engage municipalities to offer volunteer programmes and internships for youth.

Youthful Moudy Mudzuelwane in the Environmental Industry

If you’re a fan of Phalaphala FM sports show then you’ve probably heard her voice. Thina Ramantswana is the lady behind the smooth yet clear voice which brings you minute by minute commentary on sports games.

Her unrivaled knowledge of the game makes her the envy of a lot of women who find themselves in the midst of guys discussing soccer at a corner chisa nyama, carwash or bar. Off air, she’s not a lady of many words; but we had a chat with her.* Please tell us about yourself.

It difficult to put me into a few sentences, but in short I am a multilayered person who is passionate about sports. I grew up in Nzhelele.* How long have you been a sports commentator?

I’ve been a sports commentator since 2008.* Please take us through your typical day at work.

I make sure I get to work early so I prepare things in time and, do my research. It is very important that one knows what they are talking about on air.* What are the basic academic requirements for one to become a sports commentator?

I don’t really think there’s a basic requirement to become a sports commentator, but going to school is very important so that you can gain more knowledge. I think you just have to have a passion for sports.* What interests you about your job?

Travelling and meeting new people is what I’d say interests me, apart from the games themselves.* What does it take to be a sports commentator; do you have to be a sports

fan?Yes, of course. Being a sports fan helps

you sharpen your knowledge of the game and ultimately helps to do the job better.* Where would you like to see yourself in the next three years?

I would love to see myself as the best female sports commentator in South Africa.* Are you the first female sports commentator on Phalaphala fm?

As far as I know, yes.* What is your message to other youths who aspire to be where you are one day?

Opportunities are endless, but not everything will come to you, you need to get up and do something for yourself.

On a warm afternoon, book lovers met at Guyo Book Services in Louis Trichardt to talk about books and the importance of reading. The ceremony, held on 2 May, was meant for handing over book prizes to World Book Day book winners, who entered an SMS competition sponsored by Guyo Book Services, Makoya and Limpopo Mirror.

The book which was put up for a prize was an anthology of poetry titled; Halala Madiba – Nelson Mandela in Poetry. Winners and winners’ representatives showed up and enjoyed a bookish day at Guyo bookstore. Guyo manager Mr Maano Tuwani read one poem from the anthology and spoke in length about the importance of cultivating a culture of reading and writing within our communities.

Each of attendees was given ample time to express their feelings and views on books. The final resolution was that the formation of book clubs and book activities was imperative in the area. All attendees registered names in the book lovers’ register for future book activities. Two young

gals in particular, Mulalo Hulumeni and Nsovo Masebenza, are not first timers in winning Makoya competitions.

Nsovo was amongst the learners who were taken out on a trip to Mapungubwe by Makoya in 2007. On 26 May 2012, she relived the Mapungubwe moments with one of Makoya’s founders, Thato Ledwaba. On the other hand, Thato gave the background of Makoya and what Makoya aims to achieve.

Makoya is a youth culture magazine, which also creates a platform of interaction amongst youths and a space in which they can express themselves, be it economically, socially, psychologically, emotionally and artistically, said Thato.

The actual winners were announced at Guyo Book Services as follows: Fhatuwani Gumani, Mulalo Hulumeni, Livhuwani Liswoga, Nsovo Masebenza, Lettie Mudau, Mulisa Mulangaphuma, Thanyani Nedzungani, Fhatuwani Nepfumbada, Thendo Ramango and Mpho Raphasha.

“Looking 4 Myself,” was released a couple of days back. For now I want to call him “Sir Usher”.

The music video I saw on TV is a mind blower. This album, according to critics, has the warm, organic feel of R&B and deep pop hooks. Usher has collaborated with a number of top-shelf songwriter and producers; the list includes Will.i.am, Danja, Pharrell, and Max Martin, not to mention the likes of Diplo, Swedish House Mafia, and Noah “40” Shebib. Ladies and Gentlemen, Usher is simply musical fit! This one goes by the saying “its time to separate boys from men.”

They are now travelling the world and things are looking good for the group. I didn’t see it coming but hey, the track La Vida is something else. The guys were thinking without the box, the video is to die for and I wonder where they are getting their inspiration from?
