2.1Large and Medium Scale IndustriesTotal 149 large and medium industries are working and employing about 43,025 workers. The identified potential sectors in the district are cotton textile, engineering goods, electrical industries, Food Products, Chemical, Plastic Products, Mineral and Rubber Products industry. The Taluka wise numbers of large & medium industries is given in Table 2.1.

2.2Macro, Small and Medium Scale Industry Development

Vadodara has 19,956 SSI Industries. As per the industrial statistics of 2006-07, the investment of SSI Industry in the district was Rs 40063.46 lacs in plant and machinery and employing about 98100 workers.

It can be observed that major industry group of the District are Metal, Non ferrous items, Machinery, Food, Rubber, Plastic, Chemical and Electrical Industry. These industries spread in mostly in Vadodara and surrounding areas. The details of Macro, SSI and Medium scale units are given in Table 2.2. The distribution of SSI units by industry type is given in Table 2.3. Industry Clusters identified in the district are given in Table 2.4.Table- 2.2

5.0Industrial Scenario of Makarpura-Vadodara and Surrounding Areas

There are total 149 large and medium scale industries in 6 talukas of Vadodara district employing 43025 nos. The major industries of the district are Cotton Textile, Engg. Goods, Electrical, Food products, Chemicals, Plastics, Minerals and Rubber product industries. There are total 12540 SSI units registered in Vadodara Taluka upto 30/9/06. The total investment made by SSI sector is 21005.85 lacs in plant and machinery and employing 74956 nos. In Vadodara district there are 19 industry clusters of different industries the details is given in table 2.4. Out of 19 clusters of the district, 18 clusters are in Vadodara Taluka. The major clusters are fabricated metal products, machine tools, plastics, chemicals, etc.

In Vadodara city there are 3 major industrial estates viz. Makarpura GIDC industrial estate, Gorwa GIDC industrial estate and Sardar industrial estate. In Makarpura GIDC estate, there are around 1200 units. The detailed breaks up of the units are as under:

The majority of the units of GIDC estate are engineering, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics and others. In surrounding areas of Makarpura GIDC estate, large scale units like ABB Ltd, Transpack Industries, FAB Bearings, etc.

6.0Industrial Associations

There is only one industry association at Makarpura GIDC Estate. The name of the Association is Makarpura Industrial Association which is very actively involved in the developmental activities of industry.

7.0Other Infrastructures Availability

Makarpura GIDC is in the heart of Vadodara city. Vadodara is district headquarters and it is well connected with rail and road. Vadodara has prominent railway junction in the Ahmedabad-Mumbai railway-line. It is also connected by road with Ahmedabad-Mumbai National Highway No.8. All other infrastructure facilities like transportation and communication are available there.

8.0Need for ITI Extension Centres

It can be observed from the industrial profile of the district that there is concentrated growth of engineering based industries. It has been learnt that there is a need for industry-specific manpower training in the centers like Makarpura due to concentration of Chemical, sheet Metal Fabrication Industry, Plastic, Foundry and Machine Tools related industries in and around Makarpura, Vadodara City.

9.0Selection of ITI Extension Centre

General

GIDC Estate Makarpura-Vadodara

9.1Makarpura - Vadodara Centre

Makarpura-Vadodara GIDC estate is well developed.

There are 1200 SSI units in and around the estate.

Makarpura GIDC Estate is in the heart of Vadodara City.

Major cluster of Sheet Metal/Engineering Units in the estate.

Large scale units are in and around Makarpura GIDC Estate.

So many SSI units are working as ancillary units of large scale units.

In Vadodara district majority of large/medium and SSI units are in an around Vadodara City.

These units are required trained workers.

Industry required need base specific short term training for their existing as well as new workers.

Out of 19 clusters, 18 clusters are in Vadodara Taluka.

Local GIDC estate Association is keen to have such centre in the estate and willing to give full support to provide technical and plant training.

Land is available in the estate with GIDC and Association.

In the view of DIC, industrial associations, GIDC and leading industries Makarpura is an ideal location for the same.

9.2General Reason for Selection of Centres

1) It is well developed city of South Gujarat region

2) Centre/location is well connected with rail, road, transportation, communications and other facilities.
