UNILIN SYSTEMS – ABOUT US

Applications for these systemsinclude:• Private Housing• Social Housing• Public Buildings• Commercial and Industrial

Buildings• Schools and other educational

buildingsAll roof panels have the necessarycertificates, technical approvals andare supplied with a lifetimeexpectancy.

At an early stage in the designdevelopment it was clear that roof

deck of the new Performing Arts Building atParliament Hill School would need to be lightweight degree of prefabrication. Site, time, and cost constraints demanded a simple andeffective solution. UNILIN offered a structuralinsulated roof panel to meet our demands whilealso providing a factory finish to the exposedspruce plywood soffit.

Haverstock Architects, UKParliament hill school

We will certainly use UNILINsystems again – with 300m2

installed in one day we were able tosignificantly accelerate our programmefor both the internal finishes and theroof coverings.

The pair of semis was fullyweatherproof within one working

day, whereas a traditional room-in-the-roofhouse type would take approximately3 weeks from roof plate to being fullycovered. In total I would estimate thatapproximately 10 working days weresaved by the UNILIN method ofconstruction.

Unilin structural roof panel systems offer a weathertight roofsystem ready for receiving the roof covering. The systemincorporates thermal insulation, rafters and ceiling board and issuitable for pitched, flat roofs and also walls. The panels forman integral part of the roof structure and replace traditionalrafters and they are supported by purlins (timber or steelframe): ridge, intermediate beams where used, and wall plate.Alternative panels are available to create rapid construction ofspandrel and party walls.

PRODUCT BENEFITS

Benefits of a Unilin roof:• The factory quality of our panels gives a consistently superior performance

• With basic tools the panels can be fitted by semi-skilled labour

• Fast track roof structure usually completed within one day

• The panels come in convenient sizes of 820mm or 1210mmwide and up to 8000mm long which are easy to cut and handle

• An extra room is provided for little more than the cost of an empty roof

• A large range of ceiling finishes suiting any style

• Panels are completely watertight and weather resistant

• Vapour proof roofs avoid condensation problems

• These ‘all-in-one’ panels are easy and very quick to install, and ready toreceive the roof covering

• The panels are available in a range of standard depths according to insulationthickness and U-value required

• Their energy performance is not affected by high wind

Benefits of Air tightness:• Unlike traditional roof systems Unilin panels are continuously sealed across theentire roof structure and only require mechanical sealing at the ridge, gablesand chimney junctions

• Unilin panels help to comply with Part L Building Regulations and achieve airtightness and energy efficient buildings

Unilin is the ideal insulated roof panel -strong and rigid, light and economical, sophisticated and versatile. Panelscan be pre-finished or ready fordecoration, with a special acousticpanel for improved interior soundabsorption. There is a Unilin panel forevery application. Unilin panels aresuitable for any kind of roof covering- ie traditional tiles, slates, concretetiles, zinc etc, and for roof pitches0° to 60°.This versatile system is suitable forboth refurbishment and new-buildprojects and has a full warranty. The panels comply with all Europeanstandards for quality control andthermal performance meeting andexceeding local building regulationswith BBA Certification (No. 02/3897)and IAB Certificate (No. 03/0193).

Benefits of PIR foam:• Excellent U-Values exceeding buildingregulations in UK and Ireland

• Remains stable under different climateconditions

• Durable, does not degrade or rot

• Easy to apply

• Water-resistant

• HCFC-free and CFC free, ozonefriendly (ODP=0 & GWP=< 0.01)

• Prevents fungal, insect and vermin attack

Incorporation of polyisocyanurate (PIR) foaminsulation is the key to the performance of thepanels. Used for more than 40 years in theconstruction industry and chosen by numerousindustries (ie, automobile, aeronautic), PIRfoam has a unique combination of highthermal performance, strength, rigidity andexcellent adhesion.

Benefits of MW/flax:Mineral Wool and Flax are both ecologicallysuperior to other insulants and are able tocreate greater thermal inertia (flax =1550J/kg/K with a density of 23kg/m3), alsothere is enhanced acoustic performance.

DescriptionThe Unipur panels are available in arange of standard depths according toinsulation thickness and U-value required.

The panels comprise 3 or 4 integraltimber rafters fixed to and stabilised by arigid facing board which also forms theceiling finish.

These 'all-in-one' panels are easy andvery quick to install, and ready to receivethe roof covering. They create an airtight, virtually water tight, warm roof in afraction of the time compared to atraditional method.

The Panels are suitable for use withsurface mounted or suspended luminaires.Recessed luminaires shall not be used inconjunction with the panels.

A sandwich panel incorporatingmineral wool insulation (minimum35kg/m3) suitable for pitched or flatroofs. Panels are rigid and meetstringent requirements for soundinsulation, fire ratings and largespans (BBA certificate applied for)and is ideal for all buildings fromdomestic to large public buildings. The ecological benefits of the panelscan be further enhanced by theinclusion of flax insulation (density23kg/m3) made from natural flaxfibres. The panels can be installedeither horizontally or following theslope of the roof onto structuralwall, structural timber trusses/purlins or steel purlins.

DescriptionUnispan-MW panels are available indifferent thicknesses to comply with BuildingRegulations Part L requirements (UK).

The insulation is held between four rafters, which are stabilised by a ceiling boardand upper board.

Counter battens (20 x 30mm) can befixed to the upper board.

Sandwich panels can be supplied withends cut to an angle at ridges and/oreaves level. Infill panels on request.

On flat roofs, Unispan MW can befinished externally with a range ofdifferent roof coverings including bitumen, standing seam, EPDM, PVC etc.

The thickness of the upper board mustcomply with the roof covering supplier’sfixing requirements and with the relevantBuilding Regulations. Where the roof issubjected to high humidity (Climate ClassIV and in swimming pools) please contactthe supplier for advice.

UNILIN SYSTEMS SPANDREL PANEL SYSTEMS

22

Unilin structural insulated roofpanels are already established asmarket leaders in Western Europefor the supply of insulated roofsolutions. However in recognition of thechallenges of the UK market, Unilinhas developed a complete roofpackage of gable and spandrelwall systems. Allowing a rapidinstallation of the entire roofstructure from wall plate, in hoursrather than days. Producing aprefabricated airtight structure, outperforming the building regulationsin terms of acoustic, thermal, fireregulations and air tightness. In independant testing carried outby the BRE (test report No. 243464)the system achieved the followingresult:

party wall sound reduction.

The system is simple and requiresno specialist expertise other thanthose of a carpentry contractor.

The panels are lifted up ontothe deck of the final floor andinstalled and propped one afteranother.

UNILIN SYSTEMS SPANDREL PANEL SYSTEMS

The panels are joined togethercomplete with socket positions forthe installation of purlins andjointing elements for attachingstandard panels together.

The purlins are then added,Unilin's unique Unipur insulatedpanels are secured to the purlinsand walls. To this structure Dormascan be added and Velux rooflights cut in.

The system dramatically reduceson site time, improves air tightnessand consequently improves theeffectiveness of the insulation, which can exceed buildingregulations.

Unilin spandrel panels resolveone of the major issues whenusing SIP panels on gable roofs, that of securely and speedilybuilding up gable and partywalls. Also creating the addedbenefit of improved health andsafety due to the modular natureof construction, the robust natureof the panels and the virtualelimination of fall risk throughthe roof.
