Making the Case for Urban Farms, Edible Landscaping and Restaurant Culinary Gardens Written by Christal Blessin January 21, 2016 I believe that if we use the resources of land, water and labor, then we may as well get some real food from it, indoors and out. Furthermore, now that the real food and urban farm/garden movement is in full swing, it’s time to change our concepts of land use and community development. I believe that when the right philosophy is applied to both nature and nurture, we can meld our appreciation for nature’s beauty with our need for real food and animal husbandry. As a horticulturalist, home chef and land broker, I’ve thought this way all my life. Consider the following points: There’s public awareness about our food system, food’s origin, molecular structure and healthiness. This interest and knowledge about our food keeps widening in scope. There’s public pressure on governmental agencies and food producers to deliver real food and products that are made with care and concern for people, animals and communities. Not everyone has the means or desire to move to the country and start a production farm. People, generally speaking, want to participate in the food movement and do what is right. We, and all communities, need local food security. I believe that if we use the resources of land, water and labor, then we may as well get some real food from it, indoors and out.

Consider the following points:

There’s public awareness about our food system, food’s origin, molecular structure and healthiness.
