I would like to dedicate this Annual Report to John Redmond and Robert Bell, two

inspirational gentlemen who mentored me.

John, General Manager for 24 years established our company and handed it over to me and

showed incredible faith in my ability to grow the organisation to what it is today. He sadly lost

his battle with Cancer in January 2012.

Bob, Director and Treasurer for 20 years always supported me, he gave me 'wings' and never

said never. Bob was an incredible selfless man, and gave so much time and energy to the

Association even during ill health. Bob sadly lost his battle with Prostrate Cancer in May 2012

2012 was disappointing. We started the year in a positive way, however as the year

progressed we realised that economic factors externally were having a big impact on our

business. Whilst to some degree we are insulated, we are not totally immune to everyday

business pressure.

We continue to support students and staff by providing facilities that are serviceable,

practicable and friendly. We supported a number of student activities which are mentioned

on pages 4/5, these are fundamental to our goals and we endeavor to support as many as

possible.

Thankyou to all ITSA staff and the Board of Management for their support, it is a large team

effort and they all work hard to provide service and facilities for students and staff studying

in the Institute.

Pat Barker, Sue Ranger and Janette Redman all reached 30 years service,

Valda Matheson achieved 30+ years service, a truly remarkable achievement.

These staff members were presented with mementoes to celebrate the achievement!

Retail Services:Retail Services:Retail Services:Retail Services:

Once again another challenging year for Retail in general with the on-going world of e-books

and on-line services for students. To counteract this we have introduced new items such as

decorative journals, colourful span utensils and ipad essentials.

We strive to fulfil our mission to provide essential, innovative learning and research

materials to support Institute students with the help of our teaching staff and publishers.

Our second hand website (www.itsasecondhandbook.org.au) has been growing over the

past year reaching students as far away as Tasmania. This site has helped a number of

Institute students financially, to re-sell their unwanted textbooks.

We have also been trialling on-line textbooks through our itsa website (www.itsa.org.au).

Again it has had great results in a short time reaching students in Northern Territory and

Western Australia as well as many students in the outer Wollongong regions.

Our participation at the TAFE Open Day in November 2012 was a great success as it

highlighted to new students what the Bookshop had to offer them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of ITSA’S Staff for their efficient and

friendly service to our Customers, their support, team effort and help which makes my job

such a rewarding and enjoyable one.

Recreation Centre:Recreation Centre:Recreation Centre:Recreation Centre:

The Association resumed operations at the Fitness Centre May 2012. There were a number

of maintenance issues within the centre that had to be rectified before we could commence

trading again. We managed to lose only a few days trading and it was ‘business as usual’ for

the balance of the year.

We have partnered with Matt Cooper and Josh Miller from the St George Illawarra Dragons

who will launch Dragonfit programs mid-2013. We look forward to developing these

programs with Dragonfit, and we are excited that our members will have the opportunity to

train with Matt & Josh.

Making Campus Life BetterMaking Campus Life BetterMaking Campus Life BetterMaking Campus Life Better College squash continues to be a vibrant part of our centre, with some 40 squash players

registering to become Association members in 2013. The College Squash Club is an integral

part of the Recreation Centre along with the Tech Waratahs Rugby Club who have their

home base on Saunders Oval. Junior Steelers Rugby and College Mustangs all train on the

ovals and use the Recreation facilities from time to time.

Thanks to all patrons who have stayed with ITSA Fitness during the changeover. We have

valued their input and support over the last 8 months and look forward to providing a

healthy vibrant Centre for the benefit of members, and members of the community.

Resource Centre/Print Shop:Resource Centre/Print Shop:Resource Centre/Print Shop:Resource Centre/Print Shop:

2012 was an extremely busy year for the Resource Centre. Printing is in high demand.

The Resource Centre continues to provide a Bulk Photocopying Service for the Illawarra

Institute and offers it’s services to any Institute outside of the Illawarra Area. Teachers are

sending more of their work to the Resource Centre electronically, which in turn helps them

to manage their time better.

Students use the Resource Centre on a daily basis, and we provide services such as spiral

binding & laminating which students need to enhance their class work.

Our Gift range has continued to be popular and provides a service to the many Students

and Staff who are on Campus throughout the year

Thank you to Staff & Students who took advantage of our services during the year and thank

you also to my staff who help to provide an efficient and friendly service to everyone.

Food Services:Food Services:Food Services:Food Services:

Another busy year, so much effort, so little return. We continue to struggle with viability

especially with the smaller canteens.

We are constantly striving to provide a good variety, consistent trading hours and value for

money. Sometimes it is a struggle to manage all three on a day to day basis, especially with

student

numbers changing.

All food service staff work really hard in a very competitive

environment, there are some lessons to be learnt from trading in 2012, and we will work

hard to try and have some better results next year.

We continue to provide catering for a number of student projects, these functions and

events often impact on our daily canteen

services, however we proudly support student initiatives.

ITSA welcomes these opportunities and look forward to supporting many more events to

come.

On behalf of all Food Service Staff we would like to thank students and staff for their

patronage throughout the year.
