Preliminary stages

● We s tarted by meeting with our librarians , led by On J oo, and dis cus s ing how makers paces might look in our buildings .

● The topic was introduced at our weekly adminis trative Cabinet meeting, and was a topic of dis cus s ion for weeks .

● On was a great s ource of ins piration, as s he began s ubmitting grant propos als .

Technology Committee

● Our Tech Committee meets 4x per year. We dis cus s ed makers paces and how teachers would us e them.

● Teachers offered feedback on planned purchas es , layout of s pace, etc.

● Our librarian at Shaw Avenue was on the Tech Committee, s o there was direct feedback from our Library and Media team as we dis cus s ed our plans .

Building-level meetings

● Fores t Road was the bes t s chool for our mos t ambitious makers pace becaus e Erin, the principal, wanted to rethink their lab s pace.

● We met over the s ummer to cons ult with the Facilities team regarding feas ibility and timelines .

● Once we had plans in place at each building, each principal took over the planning proces s .

The idea of MakerSpace was incubated.

Arts and Craft materials were donated.

Recess Crochet Class was started after receiving a donat ion of yarn and hooks.

Recess Coding Class was init iated.

Recess Coding Club, Recess Crochet club and Recess Makers Club are up and running.$2000 grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Educat ion received$500 from FR PTA received$350 from LISMA (Long Island School Media Associat ion) receivedStudents have access to STEAM projects and problem-based learning experience in their new MakerSpace.
