REPORT

CEO One of my favorite things to do when it is time to publish our annual report is to reflect upon the past year. As I think about our achievements, I am overcome with gratitude to our patients for entrusting their lives to us, our Board and donors for believing in us, our clinicians, volunteers and staff for giving of themselves and to our community partners that help us achieve our vision of being an innovative leader, empowering individuals in healthier communities. Every day, OneWorld changes lives and in turn changes the health of the community. In 2014 we cared for 32,497 unique patients; 20% more than last year; ranking ninth of 1,202 federally health centers in the nation in patient quality outcomes.

OneWorld: Making a Difference, that’s what We Do!

Rising from the ashes of a devastating fire early in the year, we reopened Cass Family Medicine in Plattsmouth with standing room only welcome by the community, completed renovation of the Livestock Exchange Building in South Omaha and opened a new clinic in Northwest Omaha while our newest School-Based Health Center at Bryan High School, opened in late 2013 filled with adolescents. Recognition from the Human Rights Campaign as a Leader in LGBT-QIA Healthcare Equality reaffirmed OneWorld’s unwav-ering commitment to provide access to health care to everyone in a way that makes all of our patients feel safe, respected, and welcome. Our Learning Community Center (family literacy center) reached capacity; with 200 families enrolled and hundreds on a waiting list. This innovative program in partnership with the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy counties is demonstrating return on investment with solid evaluation outcomes that literacy makes a difference in parent engagement at home and at school. We enrolled over 10,000 children and families in Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace this year because of the tremendous effort of OneWorld’s Outreach and Enrollment Team. Now, these families enjoy the comfort that comes from knowing that they and their loved ones are covered – many for the first time. Reaching the community and our patients with the highest quality health care and support services is our mission; and we couldn’t do that without our talented staff. Since we have grown so much to address community needs; it was time to focus also on our infrastructure and we strengthened our teams through hiring and the creation of OneWorld University, a management academy for leaders and refreshed our emerging leader academy – allowing our employees the opportunity to improve and grow their knowledge through continuing education. Moving into 2015, we will celebrate our 45th anniversary by continuing to transform our patient’s lives and community, taking many more steps toward growing and strengthening our “village” of health and supports that break the cycle of poverty. Making a difference is what we do!

Thank you for being our friends and colleagues in this journey.“ “Sincerely,

Andrea Skolkin, MPAChief Executive Officer

Cass Family Medicine Clinic Before the Fire

The Aftermath of the January 2, 2014 Fire

Cass Family Medicine Re-Opens With the Help of the

On January 2, 2014, a devastating fire ripped through the historic buildings on Main Street in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the fire destroyed OneWorld’s Cass Family Medicine clinic along with three other businesses. With the support of the Plattsmouth community, OneWorld was able to renovate and restore a new clinical location that opened on October 21, 2014. OneWorld is grateful to all the families in Plattsmouth and the surrounding areas, as well as the College of Nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, who so generously loaned their mobile unit so the clinic could stay open after the fire. Together, with help from the community, Cass Family Medicine will continue to care for the families of Cass County for years to come.

“I can see why you are proud. You have salvaged a historic building and have give it new life. You have given this building an opportunity to last for another 100 years.”

- Plattsmouth Main Street Association ExecutiveDirector Charles Jones in the Plattsmouth Journal

COMMUNITY

Martha found her way to our newest clinic after her diabetes required a trip to the emergency room. Having been a patient at our Livestock Exchange clinic in the past, Martha was thrilled to discover another OneWorld clinic closer to her and her family, which made maintenance and treatment for her diabetes much easier. Through regular appointments with Dr. Samindla, Martha has gotten her blood sugar under control, and has learned the importance of testing and tracking her blood sugar levels between appointments. Dr. Samindla also worked with Martha to help her find a program through a local pharmacy that allows her to receive her diabetes medication at no cost. Martha’s family has also taken advantage of the care offered at our Northwest clinic through dental visits, well child exams, and school and sports physicals for her 14-year-old son.

Leadership Academy Project Encourages

Operations Case Manager Gerson Manriquez wanted to encourage OneWorld patients like Susana Jimenez Mendez to lead healthier lives. His opportunity came when he had to develop a capstone project for OneWorld’s Leadership Academy, a program designed to give employees the tools to become successful leaders. Gerson developed a two-month Zumba program for OneWorld patients that focused on offering an engaging alternative to traditional fitness plans. Susana said she committed to all eight weeks of the program because she recognized the importance of being physically active. Susana also received social support from other Zumba participants who encouraged her to continue the program every week. OneWorld’s Zumba program helped Susana lead a healthier life by offering her the chance to make exercising fun.

“OneWorld’s Zumba program helped Susana

lead a healthier life by offering her the chance to make exercising fun.
