are not in a capacity to push themselves

OBJECTIVES

• To provide financial, physical and material support to

those who are at disadvantage, specially from villages and

rural areas, with a focus on education, medical, rural

development and women empowerment issues.

• To provide similar support to the segment of people who are

differently abled.

Aasararay of hope for the street kids

Aasara, an NGO in Navi

Mumbai, helps in creating a

better future for the street

children. A computer lab was

set up there to make them

computer literate. Every

Friday, they get trained in

English Speaking and Computer

proficiency in GTL premises.

Netra IT solutions for the visually challenged

GTLF started an Advanced

Computer Training Centre for the

Visually Impaired, in Lower Parel

on 16th August 2005, which is the

first of its kind in India.It prepares

them to be eligible for accepting

various IT opportunities.

49 visually challenged students

are undergoing training today.

9 students from Advanced

batch, 12 students from

Refresher batch and 33

students from Basic batch have

completed their course.

Netra IT solutions for the visually challenged

We have developed a speech-

based chess software for the

Blind which will enable them to

improve their chess-playing

skills. This is 1st of its kind in

the world.This is being

circulated to the Blind through

All India Chess Federation

for the Blind.

This Software was

launched in October

2006 during World Chess

Championship for the

Blind.

Helen Keller Institute for the

Deaf and Deaf Blind, an NGO in

Mumbai,This Institute has

helped educate and train

deaf blind children and deaf

children, since its inception

in July 1977.

Other Initiatives

Scholarship to the DeservingDisaster Relief

Gyan Jyot encouraging future achievers through scholarships

Reaches out to the children of GTL employees

who deserve financial assistance and for whom,

a scholarship program will be a motivator to

excel. Scholarships are awarded on merit cum

need-based. The scholarships covers from 7th

Standard up to degree completion. 49

students have been awarded scholarship till

date.

Pralay coping with calamity

The Mumbai floods on 26th July 2005 affected

thousands. Financial assistance was given to

about 100 families for immediate

procurement of necessities. Through “Yuvak

Prathishtan” an NGO, note Books were

distributed to students who lost their study

material during the floods

Idaya rehabilitating tsunami survivors

Within 13 months 30 newly constructed

homes in Veerampattinam, Pondicherry,

provided to rehabilitate Tsunami disaster

victims

India's largest international sporting event

called the Mumbai Marathon, have GTLites

sweating it out every year by running together

for a charitable cause and to create awareness

of GTL's CSR activities.

Thane Police Welfare FundAssisted the Thane Police Welfare Fund for

the construction of a hospital and school.

ICT Support

Supported Nasscom Foundation for using IT to

help Mumbai Police reach out to citizens of

Mumbai and make Mumbai a safer place to live

and work in.

Cancer PatientsFinancial contribution to Sri Matha Trust,

Chennai shelters cancer patients and offers

treatment with Adayar Cancer Institute.
