Tamala Edwards, Anchor/Reporter for WPVI-TV/Ch. 6, accepted the
Inspired Service award on behalf of the station for its “Art of Aging” series at the Inspired Service Recognition Dinner on October 29. The event welcomed more than 250 friends and supporters of Presby’s Inspired Life—the largest crowd ever in the event's six year history.
The “Inspired Service” recognition dinner is the most signifi cant annual fundraising event for Presby’s Inspired Life. The event seeks to honor a business, civic or political leader who directs his/her
infl uence and expertise to successfully address quality of life issues impacting older adults. The proceeds from the event benefi tted the Compassionate Care Campaign (see page 7).
Airing on Thursday afternoons and hosted by 6abc’s veteran anchors, Lisa Thomas-Laury and Tamala Edwards, the “Art of Aging” series aims to connect older adults in the Delaware Valley with top local health, fi nancial and leisure resources. As the only series of its kind in the Philadelphia market, the “Art of Aging” series has grown to become a valuable news portal for not only seniors,
but also for those who care for them.
“Channel 6 is a trusted news presence in the Delaware Valley. Their dedicated team of producers, editors and talent work to share resourceful stories to support area seniors in living life to its fullest,” said Presby’s Inspired Life President and CEO Judee M. Bavaria. “The “Art of Aging” series is a gift to area seniors, spotlighting relevant information to a growing demographic that is often overlooked in today’s fast-paced society.” See page 4 for a list of sponsors and more photos from the event!

INSPIRATI NS
We sang, we danced, we prayed, we ate cake (okay, a lot of cake), we remembered and most importantly we gave thanks this year, for the ministry of Presby’s Inspired Life and the six decades it has spent in service to older adults.
Our 60th Anniversary has, without a doubt, been one of the most memorable years I have experienced since I arrived 16 years ago. The root of my joy, however, is derived not by the number
of years, but by what those years represent—and that’s
commitment. Commitment to:
1. Our Residents – to provide an un-paralleled level of
care that enhances their quality of life.
2. Their Families – to ensure them their loved
ones receive compassionate care. 3. Our Donors & Volunteers
– that their investment of time and treasure is stewarded appropriately
and thoughtfully. 4. Our Employees – to helping them continue to develop themselves
professionally and personally. 5. Our Neighbors –that we will take care of our home and contribute to the vibrancy of the neighborhood. 6. The Larger
Community – that we will continue to seek and develop opportunities to expand our services in order to serve the growing older adult population in Greater Philadelphia.
With your continued support, we are poised to build on this great commitment and look forward to strengthening our impact in the years and decades ahead. May you and your loved ones enjoy a blessed holiday season and healthy New Year.

proud to serve the family and friends through song. – Aaron Stallworth
Q: One of the choir’s signature songs is titled “Go
Make Difference.” How and why do you think
that song moves people when it is sung?
A: “Go Make a Difference, WE Can Make a
Difference, Go Make a Difference in the World.” It encourages all of us to be the difference we want to see in the world. It doesn’t take much to be a blessing to others. Take a minute for conversation, smile, give when you can and volunteer. Verse 2: “We are the hands of Christ, reaching out to those in need”—That’s us…that’s Presby. It’s what we do.” - Sharon Johnson, Manager
Q: Can anyone join the choir? What if they don’t
have a musical background?
A: Anyone who has a heart for singing can be a part of the choir. We welcome all types of musical talent. If members want to continue beyond 2015, our team will meet and create a performance schedule for 2016. Stay tuned!

The “Voices of Inspiration,” is a choral group comprised of Presby’s Inspired Life employees from across the ministry’s communities. The group came together at the request of President & CEO, Judee Bavaria who was looking to draw upon the musical talents from within the
Presby family in commemoration of the organization’s 60th Anniversary. Led by two dynamic leaders from our Affordable Housing ministry, Aaron Stallworth and Sharon Johnson, this group of talented singers came together to provide musical inspiration for more than half of the 60th Anniversary celebrations this year. The “Voices of Inspiration” have added a unique touch to this historical year and the blend of their collective voices will echo for months and years to come. Below, are some thoughtful insights about the group and their experiences this year. To view some the “Voices of Inspiration” performances visit Presby’s YouTube Channel.
Q: The “Voices of Inspiration” is comprised of
individuals from across Presby’s communities.
How does this diverse representation of
people, gifts and talents refl ect the overall
ministry of Presby’s Inspired Life?
A: Being able to serve others through song has been a powerful thing and it embraces Presby’s ministry of serving the older American community. Each occasion that the choir has had to sing, we have served the hearts and ears of those who are in attendance with inspiration. And that has always been the most important thing. It’s one thing to just sing for self. But to sing to inspire and lift up others makes it that much more meaningful. – Aaron Stallworth, Director
Q: What has been the most memorable moment
for the choir this past year? Why?
A: The Rev. Paul White event (see page 5). Being a part of honoring one of Presby’s great servants was truly an honor. To hear how special Rev. White was to the entire Presby family and how well he served, made the choir

60 Years of Service To Older Adults
58th Street Worship Service & Picnic
Rydal residents gathered together on
November 19 to dedicate the new Meditation
Room at Hillside (6th Floor). The setting will
be utilized by residents, their families and staff
members as space for refl ection and prayer.
Dedicated in memory of The Rev. Carlton J. Sieber,
husband of Rydal resident, Betty Sieber (pictured
left with Lynn Johnson-Porter and Rydal chaplain,
Rev. Tom Summers) the room and its many
beautiful features were made possible through the
generosity of residents and other benefactors.
Close to 200 residents, team members and supporters gathered on October 4 at the historic 58th Street
Campus to take part in a worship service led by Board Member, Rev. Randy Barge. The Worship Service was followed by an old fashioned Sunday School picnic. Other participants included neighborhood faith leaders and family members-children and grandchildren-of the residents. The Rev. Paul A. White was Presby’s fi rst and longest serving President. Having served the
organization for more than 30 years, he was a visionary and thoughtful leader that guided Presby to expand the depth and breadth of its services to older adults. Rev. White passed away in 2013, however, his wife, Betty, son, Dale and daughter, Ruth and grandchildren (pictured left) were joined by Judee Bavaria and the Presby family for a dedication of the Library at Rosemont, renamed in his honor on September 17.

Glorious Garden Blooming at Rosemont
Nestled on a secluded former estate, Rosemont is a peaceful oasis along the Main Line of Philadelphia, pairing quiet
seclusion with the nearby excitement of some of the region’s most popular attractions. The centerpiece of Rosemont is a grand, century-old mansion, surrounded by 10 acres of beautifully maintained grounds and gardens that together comprise a tranquil nature preserve. Seeking to maintain its unique beauty and identity, the residents at Rosemont are working to incorporate a Glorious Garden on the campus. The garden will come alive through the generosity of the residents and will feature a fountain bird bath, small pond, garden benches and fl agstone pavers on which individuals can pay special tribute to someone special. On Thursday, Oc-tober 1, 2015 the “Presby Singers”—
a group of seniors from Spring Mill Presbyterian Village, a community of Presby’s Inspired Life, made their debut, under the direction of Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School Senior, Leah Schick.
The choir, the impetus of Schick, began a year ago when she came to Spring Mill’s activities director, Linda Suarez looking to donate her time and musi-cal talents in service to helping seniors. For the last year, she and her sister have faithfully directed one hour practices, once a week.
The 19 member choir
is composed of residents from Spring Mill’s inde-pendent living, personal care and memory support unit. “Leah is extremely self-motivated. Her passion for music and service shines through in the time she de-votes to the residents,” said Linda Suarez, Spring Mill’s Activities Director. “The residents feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in what they are doing and that is inspiring for all of us here at Spring Mill.”

chosen to support the Campaign
for Compassionate Care to con-
tinue Presby’s legacy of provid-
ing the best living experiences for
older adults.
THE IMPACT OF PHILANTHROPY
It’s a fact that:• Seventy-three percent of the
residents who seek comfort and safety within our Affordable Housing communities report annual incomes below $10,000—less than the U.S. Poverty Level of $11,600 for 2014.
• More than $5 million in benevolent care supports residents who have diffi culty meeting the cost of their care because their resources have been depleted largely through ever-increasing health care costs. There exists a $3 million gap between the cost of skilled nursing care and what is covered by medical assistance each year.
• Funding by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for vital social enrichment programs has been eliminated.
• Presby continuously honors requests for assistance with medical bills and other health-related expenses from residents of our Market-rate and Affordable Housing communities who are experiencing fi nancial hardship.
• A growing number of residents enter our communities with few essentials and without adequate resources to purchase vital needs.
THE INVITATION
We are a family here at Presby. What families do best is support one another.
“Compassionate care to me is giving people a level of living that is more than just tending to their physical needs it’s tending to their emotional needs as well,” said Carol Young a Rydal Park resident and supporter of the Campaign for Compassionate Care. Carol’s friend lives in Greenway Presbyterian Apartments—one of three Affordable Housing communities on the campus of 58th Street in Southwest Philadelphia. She hopes her gift to the Campaign will help to give her friend, and others, the types of social enrichment and exposure to arts and culture that she enjoys at Rydal Park.
“When you care about someone, it’s probably because you love them and you are concerned about their welfare, which is what this (The Campaign for Compassionate Care)
is all about,” said Carol. For Betty Sieber, Rydal Park
resident and supporter, it’s seeing that Presby’s high-level of care continues to be lived and experienced by all who call a Presby community home. “Compassion is really what it is all about,” said Betty. “That’s what Presby does best—provide compassionate care.”
We have a vision that is uplifting and rewarding. We invite you to join Carol, Betty and many others, to share your energy, your time and your resources to help us so that we can help others. Through a philanthropic partnership with Presby’s mission, you can be involved in our remarkable legacy. Will you join us?

In 2011, Marjorie selected Tioga Presbyterian Apartments as her home. Confi ned to a wheelchair
and with limited resources, Marjorie chose Presby for a number of reasons: Safety…Affordability…Quality…
A committed staff and familial comfort are freely delivered by the dedicated caregivers who open their hearts twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Since its establishment in 1955, Presby has evolved into one of the Philadelphia region’s most respected, faith-based, not for profi t organizations—providing independent residential, personal care and skilled nursing care to more than 3,000 older adults like
Marjorie across 33 Market-rate and Affordable Housing communities.
Presby’s faith-based heritage has thrived since its inception and serves as inspiration to staff and a committed Board of Directors who exemplify the mission to provide “exceptional living experiences for older adults.”
In the midst of society’s rapid change, the Presby reputation for excellence remains constant and synonymous with virtues that many older adults like Marjorie rely upon: faith, hope and charity.
THE FACTSBy 2030, older adults will
account for 20% of the U.S. population. Meanwhile,
Pennsylvania has become the fourth “oldest” state in the nation, with 2.7 million individuals aged 60 or older.
Competition for quality continuing care services remains intense, but in spite of it, Presby’s Inspired Life is uniquely positioned to enhance the lives of its older residents through a wide array of services, sound fi scal practices and a steadfast commitment to compassionate care.
Further, our ministry is poised to promote quality experiences for a growing number of older adults regardless of their religious beliefs, ethnicities or economic backgrounds.
