Tumblr Marketing (A step-by-step action plan into getting started)

Whether you’re a brick and mortar business looking to move into the online space or an online marketer specializing in PPC campaigns, it doesn’t matter. Social media has redefined what ‘advertising’ means, and will continue to do so for the years to come. My intention is that this guide will cut through the ‘social mesh’ and give you a list of easy to follow instructions so you can start promoting your business, your brand and yourself through Tumblr. Let’s begin. Step 1: Pick an offer / product / website Before going all in and hoping for the best, you should have a basic idea of what it is that’s going to make you money. Remember, Tumblr/Social Media is just another marketing channel. If you don’t have the goods, the marketing isn’t going to account for much. Unless, of course you are just using TumbleForce and Tumblr as a way of automating and extending your social media reach. That’s perfectly fine, and even recommended. But, I sense most of the people reading this guide will be on the other side of the spectrum – looking to make money via affiliate marketing or selling their own products, without having a larger blanket company to fall under. That’s cool. Here are a few easy ways you can start making money through Tumblr: Affiliate marketing Pick a niche, and set up 1-2 quality Tumblr through that. For example, it might be ‘weight loss’, wherein you would post content up of perfectly skinny, models and then make the call to action, ‘Want to look like this? Check out this new program: [insert affiliate link here]’. Morally sound? No. But I hope you see what I’m getting it. That may be have been an extreme example, you can sign up with a travel deal website as an affiliate and create a blog based strictly on one city. For example, New York, just because I’m on the plane flying to NYC as I’m writing this. So, you would use TumbleForce to post up quality content of New York (photos, videos etc) and lead with a ‘get cheap travel to New York’ call to action in the description. If you set up a quality blog, and actually engage with your followers, you’d be surprised at how well they reciprocate.

Create a value added blog Wordpress is fantastic. I love it. It’s understanding, adaptable and flexible, everything that my girlfriend is not. But, I love her all the same. What am I getting at? It’s very easy to create a professional looking ‘socially driven’ website through Wordpress, use it to capture opt ins, offer free content, make money off adsense, upsells, content lockers and grow your ‘social sphere’ all at once. One of the books I included in my PinPioneer product was called, ‘setting up Pinterest niche sites’, and it talked you through ways of creating websites that were designed to appeal to Pinterest users. Check out that guide here: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?lt7b3q1zw1xzvo6 The same thing can be applied to Tumblr. Here’s a couple of Tumblr – WordPress resources I personally use. http://wpmu.org/7-ways-to-link-wordpress-and-tumblr-blogs http://itpixie.com/2012/03/wordpress-plugin-for-crossposting-to-tumblr/#.UL34CpNetF8 http://webexpedition18.com/articles/tumblr-style-wordpress-themes/ Adsense / CPA It seems as though Adsense is outta’ style these days, but it does still. This is just many of the avenues you can take with Tumblr. Off the top of my head:

- Create 10 Tumblr accounts in different niches. - Create 10 correctly set up Wordpress to link to each account - Interlink all websites, and accounts. - Connect those to Pinterest - Now you have a little social sphere developing. - Drive traffic from the Tumblr blogs to their respective Wordpress sites,

and wait for some clickthroughs. Small time, but hey it works. You can also do this with content locks and CPA marketing. CPA stands for ‘cost per action’ where an advertiser pays for a task a user completes (i.e. completes a survey). The publisher gets paid a between 0.50c-$1.50 for every person he gets to take the action. Off the top of my head, you could let’s see, post up a trailer clip of a latest film perhaps, with some unseen parts, both on Tumblr and on your website. Afterwards, if the user wants to see more you can ‘lock the content’ with a

content blocker, which would first require them to complete the CPA offer, in turn making you money. That’s all the niche talking I’m going to do today. Step 2: Setting up After you know what you’re going to promote, it’s time to get your ‘social sphere’ as I like to call it set up.

- Open a Tumblr account with a keyword friendly username (this will appear in search results).

- Create one blog for your niche (i.e athletics) - Choose a nice theme, Tumblr offers plenty of free, nice looking themes.

Make sure the style fits your niche. - Add in a personalized description. You’re a real person after all, your bio

will say a lot about whether a person wants to follow you back. Use good English.

- Link your Tumblr account to your Pinterest using IFTTT.com o Open an IFTTT account o Go to manage accounts > add in the

authentication details for your Tumblr / Pinterest accounts.

o Go to browse recipes (or create your own) and type in Pinterest to Tumblr, or vice versa.

o Find the available recipe and activate it for your account.

o Now everything is cross-posted automatically.

- Post 10-15 pieces of good quality content in your niche. You can use Pinterest’s ‘POPULAR’ option in TF for this. Feel free to find whatever you want though.

- Start liking/reblogging/following 100 people per day for the next 3 days. - Every each day post up more content, still all natural. - Obviously this entire, you can feel free to change the source URL to fit

your own. - If you are using PinPioneer at the same time, you can start

following/liking/repining etc those on Pinterest too. - After three days, you’ll start seeing your account get followers and likes.

This is good, it means you are being noticed. - One you 100 followers you can start leveraging/converting, sending them

back to your website.
