2013 Student Leaders The 2013 student leaders were inducted last Thursday. I congratulate these students and their families. Captains are Reife and Jacquelyn and Vice Captains are Jake and Ruby (missing from photograph). It is a great honour and in deed a privilege to be selected for these positions. Scripture Lessons Correctly called Special Religious Education (SRE) started for most classes yesterday and will continue on each Tuesday morning. The volunteers present the children with general content related to Christianity. Parents have the right to exclude their children from this. Please ensure you advise me in writing/email should you wish your child not to be involved. Hillsborough App Our school now has a mobile phone app. Our App is a little application that sits on your phone and gives you instant access to our school information when you click on it, 24/7. The app gives parents the ability to instantly access newsletters without going to the website, or to send in an absent note while you stand outside the school because you forgot to write a paper note! We will be sharing many of the other features with you over the coming weeks, but for now download it to your smartphone by going to either the Apple App Store or Android Google Play Market and search for Hillsborough Public School. Once you have found it press install or download.

Stranger Danger Please reinforce this with your children as I have instructed the teachers to do this week. There are some horrible people in our society that can be disguised as the opposite. Children must avoid talking to strangers, never approach cars and so on. Advertising in this Newsletter Should you or a family member own a local business consideration could be given to advertising in this newsletter. We ask $27.50 per 10 week term for a business card size advertisement. Just let the office staff know either personally or via email. School Fees Correctly called Voluntary Contributions. We ask families for the following contributions. For 1 child $50 and for a family we ask $75. These funds are spent directly on the children and contribute to the purchase of the many consumables they use including pencils, books, paper, glitter and so on. Your prompt payment is greatly appreciated. Letters were sent home via mail. Cultural Activities I will shortly providing full details of all our cultural activities including band, dance group, choirs and so on. The information will include the names of organising staff, times, venues, cost and so on. The information sheet will be uploaded to our Website under NOTES. I thank the staff who take these activities on as it is not a mandated part of their job description. ASSEMBLY Assemblies are on a fortnightly basis on a Tuesday at 2.15 in the hall. Parents are welcome to attend. The next assembly day will be Tuesday 5th March.

Come and Try BMX Racing Lake Macquarie BMX Club is located at Mary Street, Argenton. We are having a Come and Try Day on 23 February 2013 10am – 2.30pm. This is an opportunity for anyone to have a go at the Olympic sport of BMX Racing. On the day participants will be given a showbag, be involved in a coaching session, and have the opportunity to ride on the track to see if they would be interested in joining a club. This is a rare opportunity as it is the only day BMX Australia allows unlicensed riders to ride on an official track, however, parents will need to sign a recognition of risk form. So come along on Saturday 23 February and see if you would like to join in.

Netball registrations are still being taken. We are looking for more U/8 and U/9’s.
