MAKE A T-SHIRT DRESS WITH EMMY!

1. Lay t-shirt flat on a table and measure across the bottom of the shirt. (A)

2. Then measure the length of the shirt. (B)

3. Multiply shirt width by 4. This will be the width of the skirt fabric.

4. Divide the shirt length by 2. This will be the length of the skirt.

5. Cut a piece of fabric to these dimensions.

6. Fold fabric in half, right sides together, and sew the two short edges together. Then either serge or zigzag along seam edge. You’ll end up with a large circle of fabric. (no photo)

Twelve-year-old Emmy has been a volunteer with Dress a Girl Around the World for several years. She modeled dresses at two of our teas; has collected supplies to make dresses; made dresses; promoted Dress a Girl; and donated stuffed animals to our local projects. She and her Girl Scout troop recently earned their bronze awards for their service to Dress a Girl!

7. Run two rows of gathering stitches along the top edge of the fabric and gather fabric until it equals the width of the t-shirt.

9. Flip gathered skirt down and lightly press seam. Fold over the bottom edge 1/4” twice and stitch hem. Attach DAG label and you are done!

8. Turn skirt inside out and place t-shirt inside of skirt. Pin gathered edge to bottom edge of t-shirt, even out the gathering and then stitch twice all the way around. Serge or zigzag seam edge
