Ingredients for the dough:- 500 g of wheat flour- 130 g of butter- 200 g of sugar- 50 g yeast- 3 egg yolks- 1 cup of milk- Pinch of salt- Vanilla sugar- Egg to lubricate

Ingredients for the mass of poppy:- 2 cups of water- 1 cup of milk- 500 g poppy- 300 g of sugar- 70 g of butter- whites from 3 eggs- 1 vanilla sugar- raisins- Orange peel- nuts

Ingredients for frosting:- 1 cup of powdered sugar- 4 tablespoons hot water

1. At the beginning of the boil a glass of milk with two glasses of water.2. In a separate pot with poppy, pour the hot milk into the pot and occasionally stir on low heat over 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the poppy consistency should look like this: pulled from google images

3. Mix yeast with a spoon of sugar. It should be a syrupy consistency. Then take 3 eggs and divide yolks and whites. Pour sugar and plain vanilla to the yolks. Pour a glass of milk and yeast to the yolks. Gently heat and stirring constantly.4. Meanwhile, melt the butter. To the wheat flour, pour a teaspoon of salt and the heated yolk solution from step 3. Mix thoroughly. Now, add the butter to the mixture and knead again. Cover the dough with foil and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes to rise5. In the meantime, drain off poppy and pass twice through a grinder.

In a skillet melt the 70 g butter, and add the ground poppy seeds. add plain sugar and vanilla sugar. At this point you can add nuts and dried fruit if you want them. fry the ground poppy seed mixture over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Make sure not to burn the sugar. Now whip up the egg whites until they are stiff mix with ground poppy mixture.6. These ratios make two portions. So either split the ratios to make one portion or just make two cakes. Anyway divide the poppy mass dough into two equal portions.

7. On a breadboard/countertop sprinkle a large amount of flour and put half of the dough from step 4 in the flour. Sprinkle them up and roll out with a rolling pin. Form a rectangle with the dimensions 30x20 inches. Spread the poppy mass from step 6 evenly on the dough, leaving ~ 2 cm edges. With one of the 2cm edges fold it over the poppy mass, then fold the corners on top of that. Then, Gently roll up the dough until you make a loaf. Make use of that excess flour. Smear some stirred/mixed egg yolks(Like when you make scrambled eggs) on top of the loaf.

Wrap the Makowiecz twice tightly with baking paper and put in a long baking pan like this: pulled from google

8. With the leftover dough/mass, you can make a smaller loaf. And just repeat the above step9. insert the loaves into a medium preheated oven and bake at 160-175 degrees Celsius for 60 minutes. Let the cakes cool down. then remove the loves and unravel the paper.10. pour the icing and decorate with orange peel.
