Na Global Major Project Owners Survey 2008 (Pesquisa Global com os Donos de Grandes Projetos 2008), entrevistamos os responsáveis pela implementação e entrega dos maiores projetos do mundo. As quatro principais áreas abordadas nessa pesquisa foram a escassez de recursos humanos, a gestão de riscos, a escalada de custos e a sustentabilidade. A KPMG e a Economist Intelligence Unit, em conjunto, conduziram uma pesquisa global no final de 2008, em 21 países, intitulada: “Bridging the Global Infrastructure Gap: Views from the Executive Suite”. Essa pesquisa objetiva apresentar o impacto da infraestrutura nos negócios nos dias de hoje conforme o ponto de vista de executivos do setor de vários países do mundo (sua importância, como afeta o crescimento e os custos, as questões críticas etc.).

A 2009 Global Construction Survey (Pesquisa Global para Construção 2009) abordou o cenário de declínio da demanda do setor de construção, assim como muitos outros no mesmo período, depois de registrar crescimento durante vários anos. A natureza de longo prazo dos diversos projetos em andamento se deparam com a necessidade de proteção contra o impacto imediato da recessão econômica global generalizada. A pesquisa focou nos projetos que ainda estavam em andamento e quais são as perspectivas de novos projetos para os próximos anos. A pesquisa apontou que cerca de dois terços dos entrevistados esperam elevar seus ganhos ou pelo menos mantê-los até meados de 2010. A pesquisa também aborda o tema relacionado ao destaque que a prática de gerenciamento de risco no setor tem tido nos últimos anos. Muitas companhias aprimoraram suas práticas relacionadas a gerenciamento de riscos e a controles (tema destacado na pesquisa realizada em 2008). Nessas condições turbulentas de mercado, o gerenciamento de risco torna-se extremamente crítico na busca pelo sucesso nos negócios.
