Maine Medical Center continuously looks for ways to make its
care even better. Every day, thousands of talented and caring people
are focused on ensuring each patient receives the highest level of
care available in Maine and, in fact, a good part of the country. Five
values guide all members of the team to that end: Integrity, Respect,
Patient Centered, Ownership, and Innovation.
These values are not just words to us; they influence our actions
— large and small. The integrity, the character of our people, is
reflected in the honest and transparent way we work. Respect
means listening to our patients and their families. Always putting
patients first is patient centered, and so is greeting people with a
smile. Employees know that ownership gives them the power to be
a part of the solution. When that solution means turning a challenge
into an opportunity, that’s innovation.
We know the best people work here. Measuring ourselves against
other leading national medical centers not only confirms that, but
it also highlights areas where each and every day, we can improve
care and do a better job of keeping patients safe.
Here’s what I know in my heart:
Maine Medical Center is the finest place
I’ve ever worked. Since we opened our
doors in 1874, we have worked to put
patients and their families first, provide
access to affordable care, and deliver
superior service and outcomes.
“
”— Marge Wiggins, R.N., Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President
“ As Maine’s only dedicated children’s
hospital, we have an obligation to provide
the children of northern New England top-
flight medical care close to home.”— John Bancroft, M.D., Chief of Pediatrics
“ Providing safe care is at the
center of everything we do. It is only
through our focus in this area that
we are able to live up to our mission
of Caring for Our Communities as
we work to help Maine become the
healthiest state in the nation.”— Christopher Sprowl, M.D., President, Maine Medical Partners
“ We continuously work to improve
the quality and safety we provide to our
patients. We continue toward transparency
for our people and patients to ensure
everyone knows that we are committed to
making things better for the communities
we serve. We take the good with the bad,
acknowledge successes and opportunities,
and never take our foot off the gas.”— Rich Petersen, President
“ Everyone in the health care process
plays a role in delivering safe care.
By uniting together and sharing that
common goal, we can make a difference
in patient safety. From patients to
caregivers to administrators we are
all united in the goal of providing a
safe, high-quality environment for our
patients and one another.”— Erin Graydon Baker, Director, Risk Management and Patient Safety
“ Maine Medical Center believes we
will only be truly successful when we
completely eliminate preventable harm
to patients.”— Josh Cutler, M.D., Vice President, Quality and Safety
