Did you know? You might have heard of Nepal in the news in 2015 because of a big earthquake that hit Kathmandu, the capital city. The earthquake was the biggest Nepal has experienced in almost 100 years! Many people died or were hurt, and nearly 800,000 homes were destroyed. In fact, the earthquake was so strong that Mount Everest (the tallest mountain in the whole world) moved more than an inch! (And if you think of a giant mountain moving, you can imagine how big this earthquake was!) Nepal is still recovering from the earthquake more than a year later, and it will take a long time for the country and its people to heal from this terrible tragedy. But we know the one who can heal people completely and give them hope during this difficult time — Jesus! Many people don’t know about him though, and they don’t know that he loves them. Instead, lots of people in Nepal are Hindu, a religion that has many different gods. We know that there is only one true God, and he wants the people of Nepal to learn about him in the Bible. That way they can learn about how much he loves them and how he wants them to love him, too. “Have a nice day!” in Nepali: Subha din (Soo-bah dean) Nepal Nepal Fast Facts: Number of people: 29,129,000 Main language: Nepali Main religion: Hinduism Total # of languages: 123 # of languages ... without any of the Bible: 73 with part of the Bible: 12 with a New Testament: 23 with a whole Bible: 15 Let’s pray! Dear Jesus,

Thank you for caring about the Nepali people. You know the sadness and loss they feel from the terrible earthquake, and you want to help them heal. Please use the earthquake to help people learn about you. And when they do, help them to realize that you can give them hope for the future — not just the future here on earth, but for all eternity too! We love you, Jesus, and we ask that you would help the Nepali people to feel your love too.
