History of Peñitas, Texas and a Cavazos Family Saturday, October 3rd 9:30 - 11:30AM Possibly the oldest town in the United States, come and learn about the history of the Peñitas. According to tradition, this settlement was established by a group of survivors of the Pánfilo de Narváez expedition of 1520. Also learn about the Cavazos family, a pioneer family of Peñitas. Presented by Efren Garza and Mauro Reyna, members of the Peñitas Historical Committee. Registration required. Songs of the Ranches Tuesday, October 6th 6:30 - 8:00PM “Songs of the Ranches” is a music lecture by folk music duet Rumbo al’ Anacua. It features music popular in the South Texas ranchlands during the mid-1900s. Included are songs like Adios Mi Chaparrita, El Gavilan Pollero, Carabina 30-30 and some original songs and poetry. Registration required. Velada Poética Wednesday, October 7th 6:00 - 8:30PM Disfrute una noche de ronda con nuestra Poeta Laureada Priscilla Suarez. Estará acompañada por poetas locales contemporaneos. Lorenzo Silvestre y su guitarra clásica deleitará al público con un hermoso repertorio durante la velada. Cupo limitado.

MPL Writing Circle Thursday, October 8th Thursday, October 22nd 6:30 - 8:30PM The MPL Writing Circle meets twice per month throughout the year. In a safe workshop setting, members aged 18+ are encouraged to share their writing, no matter the genre, format or style. Feedback is given based on the author’s request, such as structural critique, help with an idea, technical help, or just an audience. This format allows individual voices to flourish; encourages fellowship; fosters friendships. A great way to determine if the MPL Writing Circle is for you - be our guest for a couple of meetings and check us out! All adults are welcome to attend. Registration required. Workshop: Helping Cats in Your Community Saturday, October 10th 3:00 - 4:30PM To coincide with National Feral Cat Day on October 16th, this workshop will provide an overview of feral cats, their behavior, and the programs and people working every day on their behalf. Find out more about outdoor cat care, initiatives such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and how you can become an advocate for the cats in your community. Registration required. Word 2010 - Part I Tuesday, October 13th 6:00 - 8:00PM Learn about Word 2010 in this hands-on class. A USB drive is optional to save exercises. Computer and keyboard skills required. Registration required.
