It’s time for a few uniform reminders though. Mufti hoodies are not to be worn at all. All students must have their school sweatshirt and either a uniform jacket or a black jacket to wear when it’s cold. Other warm/waterproof jackets may be worn to and from school but this does not include hoodies. There is a blitz on these coming up and they will be confiscated. Our students generally wear their uniforms very well but it only takes one or two to start a trend! The Ministry of Education last week announced the first roll-out of the Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) positions. The Upper Hutt Cluster has been very fortunate to be included in this first list. This means there will be 16 full-time positions available for the Upper Hutt schools. The LSC roles will be to ensure that learning and/or behaviour support is available for students who require it. This role is currently done by our DPs and is extremely time-consuming, often needing to take precedence over work with curriculum and learning programmes. We are very excited by the possibilities of having a dedicated position for this very important work! It will have an enormous flow-on effect. Maidstone is having an Family Information Evening for 2020 prospective families on Thursday 29 August (7:00pm). A large number of students will be involved in this evening - you will receive a notice if your child is one of them. The evening provides an opportunity for students and families to find out about the opportunities Maidstone offers for the growth and learning of early adolescent students. If you know of anyone considering Maidstone for their child in 2020, please encourage them to attend. with only 4.5 weeks to go. Thank you to those who supported the Mufti Day, Sausage Sizzle and

Quiz Night last Friday. It’s a very costly exercise so every bit of fundraising helps!

Students are very well settled into Term 3. It’s time for a few uniform reminders though. Mufti hoodies are not to

When coming to Maidstone please report to the office. We ask that you do not go to your child’s classroom during school time.

Need to speak to a teacher, an appointment can be organised for you.

Need to pick your child up early; advise the classroom teacher by note or email the time your child

needs to be at the office ready to be signed out. The office staff will locate your child if needed.

If you need an item delivered to your child, this will be organised by the office staff.

A visitor’s pass is required by anyone entering the school grounds. This is necessary to ensure the

safety of students while at school.

Messages for Students With a large number of students, it can be challenging for office staff to get phone messages to students. It would be helpful if after school arrangements could be made before your child leaves home in the morning. We understand that emergencies happen, and at this time we will make every effort to get important messages to your child.

Flubber

and Glowworms Depending on what you mix together, it either bounces or glows! The Nano Chem kit provided us with lots of fun learning about what happens when certain chemicals combine. Borax and glue make bouncy flubber. Worm goo, glow powder, and worm activator make glowworms! ……..and when you put them together (when the teacher isn’t looking!), you get bouncy glow in the dark flubber! Just the thing for scaring little sisters! Oops….. I don’t think I was meant do that! But…. I did remember you don’t ever taste chemicals, and you have to

wash your hands after handling them!

Gold Syndicate Parent Evening

On 25 July, Gold Syndicate

held a very successful evening where students were able to

bring their parents, caregivers, and whanau along and share their last term’s work. It was

based on Hauora, and students had built their own whare and

identified areas they wanted to find out about that related to themselves, their interests,

and their whanau. We had an excellent turnout and a

lot of fun!

Blue Syndicate Trip

Community Notices

Last term a big group of kids from Blue Syndicate were rewarded for good behaviour by going on a trip to Flip Out. Once we arrived there, we got our socks sorted and then immediately rushed to the flipping boards. The instructors taught us how to do cool flips, and we even played a small game of basketball! We had lots of fun with our friends! The students who went had an amazing time and said they would go back again! Madison D & Abigail V – Room 2
