Medical School for University of Cyprus |
2015 [ Nicosia , Cyprus ]
>design competit ionArea : 9942m2
The University aspires to become an institution that will foster and amplify environmental consciousness and also to become a leader in Cyprus in terms of sustainability and environmentally friendly construction and operation in Athalassa Campus. The campus is located near the centre of the Mesaoria plain, on the banks of the River Pedieos. The area has a subtropicalhot semi-arid climate with long, hot and dry summers and most of the rainfall occurs in winter. In such a specific climate the major issue will be the system of heat avoidance. The proposal
includes passive design methods as a basic approach to minimize involvement of mechanical systems. By dividing one surface of the roof into three and locate them on different level, the building gets shaded space with controllable sunlit areas. The spaces between roofs allow the removal of heated air out of buildings. They also make easy way for local hot winds to get through the area. The form of the proposed design came out from the idea of use the shading
roof and take the advantage of the terrain. It is organisd with three blocks as Administration, Teaching entity and Research laboratories. Communication between modules is provided by two sides communications spaces. These two lines generated two open spaces between functional modules. All designed material are proposed as a local materials and with light colors as they reflect the light and reduced heat gain. From the structural point of view, there will be several steel columns supporting

The Future of Housing Complex Project |
2015 [ Yokohama, Japan ]
>design competit ionArea : 350m2
After World War II, Japanese economy developed remarkably. During that period, Japanese local government built housing complex buildings to attract workers and their families. Those houses were ideal place to live for previous as they were applied modern design within specious area with reasonable price. However, as the style of standard family has been changing, those houses face to difficulty to attract current generation. In fact, the average age of residents are getting higher.
main open space from the direction of nearest train station as considering that they will be able to have various events around the community centre. The entrance area is covered by timber framed structure with a symbolic shape of house, to softly divide the space. The house shape also implies that "everyone is a same family".
This competition aims to organise a community centre in the area of housing complex buildings for future generations to expand new vision of living in those houses with other people.I set the design concept as attracting young mothers. By organising events and meeting space, mothers would find advantages of growing up own children in the housing complex with other families helping each other.I proposed to rebuild office and storage buildings and create new entrance to the

Music School of Poznan |2015
[ Poznan, Poland ] >design competit ion
Area : 9450m2
This is a proposal for Music School of Poznan in Poland. Poznan is one of the oldest cities and also the most important, historical part of Poland. Hence the regulation for new building is strict. One of the most important regulation is about the height which makes this building cannot be higher than surrounding buildings. Therefore the shape of the building has been almost set. I got a clue from this specific shape led by the surrounding environment,
This area also brings light from from roof top opening. This music school is included a concert hall, a theater hall, music class rooms, practice rooms etc., so that it is open for both local visitors and students. I designed ground and first floor more open and easily access for local visitors as 2 main halls are placed. Especially on the ground floor, existing trees are held by second wall (as on a
diagram) to help creating flexible space around entrance area and pavement. Upper floors are for private classrooms and offices.
The third and fourth floors have green roofs. Those green roofs are surrounded by second walls, so student can be relaxed with having a rest or even studying and practice in there.

This dental clinic is designed as a part of renovation project in an old shopping centre in Kagoshima, Japan.Because the client wants to make this clinic more open for public, the main design concept is using curtains rather than proper walls and doors.
Moreover, although the site has existing mechanical installations under the ceilings, as this is for a dental clinic, customers have more chances to look up them. To avoid show-ing those installations directly and to make more spacious, comfortable environment, we add curtains on the interior ceilings.

Golden pr ize in GAD, 2014
The project investigates the dichotomy between additive manufacturing fabrication and generative design through computational methodologies. Reconciliation of these two realms as a single bottom-up process in architecture could initiate a paradigm shift in the way building industry works in the future particularly in reinforced concrete structure. The research objective is to establish a prototypical ‘reinforced concrete’ structure system by integrating digital and 3D printing tool. This design
research encompases several phases of excercise and workshops that investigate the Gothic elements, structural analysis, computational tools, material research and the physical fabrication. Although a wide variety of material has been used in 3D-printing, they all shares one common trait; they all only work in compression. This put a limit into the produced object to perform in tension. Like masonry and concrete construction, the only solution to surpass this problem is to have
reinforcement embedded within the structure itself. Modern architecture solved this problem by the invention of reinforced concrete, in which metal reinforcement bars are layed within the concrete mass to perform in both tension and compression. This solution enables builders to design in a more robust and versatile way. However, despite of its robust quality, reinforced concrete construction proves to be highly unsustainable and consumes excessive amount of

MICROSTRATA researches fabrication technique to create artificial sandstone with casted rebar, reinventing reinforced concrete. The computational logic of agent-based algorithm is employed in the creation of interconnected, fine networks of venation with high-resolution according to tension structural data. The idea of reinforced concrete is reinterpreted into metal casting technique which results in tension networks with structural performance adequate to that of conventional
time and human labour considering the rebars' physical limitation. Heinz Isler's tension network following tension stress direction, is an optimum response to the constraint of the rebar. However, the execution requires long hours of work and high level of expertise in order to arrange material with precision.
rebar. Compression blocks are fabricated by additive manufacturing method with high precision, leaving interconnected networks of cavities for tension material casting. MICROSTRATA investigate micro-organization system, turning sand into performative structures. Sand is an abundantly available substance with high potential for compression-based construction. Considering the micro unit of a grain of sand, MICROSTRATA researches into an optimized
method of architectural scale 3D printing in respond to material behaviour in the creation of high resolution structure. With the application of robot, MICROSTRATA algorithm directly transcoded the design as voxel output, generating micro layers of toolpath. From design to fabrication, the data flow does not dwell solely in the realm of virtuality, it is translated into material reality.
