GREEN INITIATIVES OF MAHA-METRO

Adopting and integrating Solar Energygeneration from project planning and designstage.

Installation of Bio-digester Technology.

India Green Building norms for environmentalprotection in building design and construction.

Other Green Initiatives.

ADOPTING AND INTEGRATING

SOLAR ENERGY GENERATION

FROM PROJECT PLANNING AND DESIGN STAGE

Metro-Rails are large consumers of

Electricity

Metro-Rail system create large rooftops

Prices of Solar PV modules are falling

Good Solar radiation of about

5 kWh/m2/day

Eco-friendly

Utility power cost is higher than Solar power

Cleaning system for Solar PVmountings on via-ducts & walls isdifficult.

Installation of Solar PV system ontrack walls, boundary walls andvia-duct is a rare phenomenon.

Solar system to be mounted onspecially designed clamps on non-pierced roofs to avoid waterleakages.

Maha-Metro is going to tap power at132 kV grid level and power is to beused at 25 kV for Traction and 33 kVfor Auxiliary requirement

Solar system connected at 415Vauxiliary side and after use forTraction & Auxiliary purpose, surplusenergy is to be fed back at 132 kVlevel with Net-metering.

Installation of Solar PV system isplanned from design stage.

SOLAR ENERGY

65% of Electrical

Energy requirement is to be met from

Solar Phase-II• 23 MWp• 34 Million Units

Phase-I• 14 MWp• 22 Million Units

SOLAR POWER INITIATIVES SOLAR POWER GENERATION RIGHT FROM INCEPTION

Maha-Metro will sign PPA for 25 years with the Private Party

In RESCO Model where investment is to be done by a

private party

Solar energy will lead to significant

saving in O&M cost (more than >20 %)

INSTALLATION OF BIO-DIGESTER TECHNOLOGY

BIO-DIGESTERBio digester: An apparatus in which organic waste material isdecomposed by microbial(an-aerobic bacteria) action with theproduction of biogas. The system is sustainable, totally eco-friendly, conserves water and produces fuel gas.

Why Bio digester?

MAHA-METRO wants 100% recycling of used water so that, not a drop of water is wasted.

No discharge to public drain leading to elimination of ground water contamination.

Less Space required.

No energy Requirement.

Maintenance Free.

Low material/ construction cost.

MoU was signed with Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) for transfer of technology.

Challenges:

New technology

Perceived Maintenance Issue

Costly due to New Technology

Instead of Bio-Digester, if we go in for septic tank then wastegeneration will be aerobic, involves periodic of sludge (incl.installation of sludge removal pump), bad smell, hazardouswaste, extra space is needed.

Opportunity:

Construction Phase : Labour Camp, Sites, Office Facilities

Operation Phase : Stations, Depots & Administrative buildings
