Note: The question paper shall contain 10 questions in all, i.e. two questions from each unit. Each
question is divided into two parts-Part A and Part B having 16 and 4 marks respectively. Candidate
has to answer part A in about 5 pages and Part B in about one page.

Social Change. Theories of Ogburn, Sorokin, and Karl Marx.

The uses of Sociology: Introduction to Applied Sociology, Sociology and Social Problems, Sociology
and Social Change, Sociology and Social Policy and Action.

Village Survey or Case Study :
The field work will be undertaken by the candidates under the general guidance of the Head
of the department. The report shall not exceed 25 typed pages double space (8" X 11" Size paper).
The report shall be submitted in duplicate to the Head of the Department at least six weeks before the
commencement of the annual examination. The Head of the department shall examine the field-work

report, award marks and forward the same along with one copy of the report to the University at least
four weeks proceeding the examination.
Note: - Private candidate will not be permitted to offer field report, for them the theory paper will carry

Based on Field Work or Library Research
The fieldwork shall be carried on under the general guidance of the head of the Department
or/ and Post Graduate teacher can act as a field supervisor. The head of the Department shall
determine the candidate's suitability and competence to offer field work on the marks obtained in the
M.A. Previous sociology Examination. Only those students who secure at least 55% marks in previous
shall be considered to offer this paper. Private Candidates shall not be allowed to offer this paper. The

(I) The Text of the fieldwork report shall not be less than 100 pages.
(II) Colour-The prescribed colour for the cover page shall be red for the Arts Faculty.
(III) Duration-Candidate shall submit three typed or computerized copies of their
fieldwork report to the Head of the Department before one month from the
commencement of the main examination.
The fieldwork report shall bear the following certificate from the Head of the Department and the Field
Supervisor-
"To the best of our Knowledge we certify, that the facts reported by the candidate in this
report have been collected first hand by candidate under our guidance and supervision: and that other
sources wherever used have been duly acknowledge."

The M. Phil programme in Sociology will prepare students for advanced. research in the discipline.
It will be a research based course and the candi- dates will be expected to specialize in the core area of
Sociology. Moreover ,they will be trained in methods of Social Research and will have to undertake
a fieldwork of empirical nature in their respective area of specialization in which they wish to pursue their
Ph.D. research work in future. The course will be of one year duration and following papers will be
offered by the students desirous to join the programme.
Each theory paper shall consist of 100 marks and candidates will be required to attempt five
questions in all. The dissertation shall also consist of 100 marks and will be on a subject related to
candidates major field of study. it will include the statement of the problem, overview of literature,
methodol-ogy, chapter scheme and bibliography. The dissertation may be based on either primary data
or secondary data or on a problem for which some solution will be projected or on the application of
some methodology for purpose of testing hypothesis or on relevance of sociological thought. The
