What does Easter mean to us? How will this Easter season bring change in our lives, enabling us to recognise and serve those who are marginalised and vulnerable in our community? As a school community we are called to travel the Lenten Journey together, to support each other and together bring about change and be Christ in the lives of others. Over the next two weeks the Board of Trustees are consulting with families in our school community on the Health Curriculum and Relationships program that Garin College offers all students. Parents and caregivers are asked to engage with the consultation survey that has been sent via email to all families. This consultation will close on 23 March 2017, all responses are confidential. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this consultation. This week Attitude Reports will be mailed home for all students. The reports will provide an outline of each student’s engagement in learning for each subject at this early stage in the year. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's teacher if they wish to discuss aspects of their child's learning and engagement. Year 11-13 parent teacher interviews are being held in week 9 of this term, online bookings for appointments will be available soon. This week at my assembly I discussed with students the need for them to use their digital devices in a manner that is appropriate, safe and respectful to themselves and others. I have a concern that at times students are using their digital devices inappropriately and in such a way that could make themselves vulnerable and other students vulnerable. I encourage parents and caregivers to engage in conversation with their children about the appropriate use of their digital device and to provide guidance and expectations to their children. Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on this issue within whanau class and through a Netsafe presentation to all students on the 17th March by our Community Police officer. This week has been a busy and successful week on the sporting calendar, within the newsletter this week you will read about the success of our Cricket Teams with some outstanding team and individual performances, congratulations to our Cricket teams, coaches and managers. I particularly wish to congratulate our three swimmers who travelled to the 2017 Division II competition held in Rotorua. Jacob Northage, Abbey Smale and Maggie Goomes have achieved outstanding results at this significant event. Please read about each of their individual successes within this newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend. Mā te Atua koe e tiaki. May God be with you. Stage Challenge returns to Nelson After 3 years away (due to Earthquake damage) Stage Challenge returns to Nelson in 2017. Head Office Auckland sent the Event Coordinator, Shanell Bielawa from the Stage Challenge Foundation to Garin College to meet with teachers and answer questions. There was a strong turn out of five schools as both teachers and future student leaders showed up (Waimea, Nayland, Garin, Motueka & Broadgreen). The event co-ordinator complimented the whole group on how the general atti-tude of inclusiveness at the meeting was different from other loca-tions she had visited. Shanell stated: "Great to witness this high level of support & comradeship between the schools". Student lead-ers have agreed to meet each other in the weeks leading up to the May 23rd show to give each other support. "At Garin we are so pleased to have Stage Challenge return. In the past we have had to travel to Blenheim or Wellington to compete", says Mrs Pope .

LOST PROPERTY

The school office has acquired a number of school uniform items which we would like to return to the rightful owners. To help return items to students, it would be

helpful if you would name students clothing. Many thanks, the school office.
