For my magazine Ive decided to base it around the Rock/Garage
Band genre The origins of most rock n roll and garage bands come
from the old blues and soul musicians in America Garage bands were
popular in the 70s and 80s and were called that for the fact that
most band members were young and amerteurish and rehearsed in the
family garage. Many small bands tried to make it by starting in
small clubs and bars, many of these being along in the infamous
Sunset Strip in LA, home to famous clubs such as the Whiskey This
genre started the gig culture of going to see small and upcoming
bands in local rock n roll bars. RESEARCH INTO GENRE
Slide 3
The unique selling point for my magazine is that unlike other
music magazines I will base it on the gig culture I have seen a gap
in the market for this because they focus only on bands and what
they have been doing, however I want to focus on the famous bars
and clubs that made most of the bands in this genre. For example, I
would tell the reader where the best new concert and gig venues can
be found Include articles about the top venue of the month Stories
and reviews sent in by readers Specials on new garage/gig
orientated bands that are not of the mainstream culture UNIQUE
SELLING POINT
Slide 4
I plan to challenge most music related conventionalities
because I wont have the feature band/musician on the front cover
but instead a music venue For example: CONVENTIONALITIES However I
will fit into most conventionalities of theses type of magazines by
not featuring gossip articles. And having the magazine title on the
top and the price/ barcode on the bottom I would not have a
magazine cover looking like this with the bands name across the
middle and the band members as the main image but instead have a
venue as an image with the name of the venue across the top and the
magazine title across the bottom or middle
Slide 5
My target audience would mainly be teenagers, both male and
female from the age range of 17 to 20 + I chose this because this
is the age where you mainly develop your music taste and the time
when you go to the most concerts and gigs Im aiming for the gig
culture of teens, those who go to music venues a lot Im aiming it
at those type of people who are really into going to see live music
which would most likely be those with a more disposable income
