SPOTLIGHT is the ultimate go-to magazine for all the latest music updates and gossip. SPOTLIGHT aims to provide the very best information about the music world as a whole as it does not confine itself to one particular genre of music. SPOTLIGHT is a haven for its readers, a place to escape to from the stress of everyday life, allowing them to get lost in the music. SPOTLIGHT will inform its readers about their favourite artists while also introducing them to new talent. SPOTLIGHT aims to bombard its readers with positive role models and represent the music industry in the best light: SPOTLIGHT wants its readers to be inspired by the music stars.

Whether its chart-topping global icons or super-talented unsigned bands SPOTLIGHT knows that its readers just love music, so it aims to shine a light on the brightest stars of the industry.

The Solution!

SPOTLIGHT itself is an institution but its parent company will be Starlight Media. Along with the magazine, the SPOTLIGHT brand will have many other aspects to it:• SPOTLIGHT online – website which gives even more information

to the readers through video interviews/music videos etc• The SPOTLIGHT Awards – annual awards ceremony for stars of

the industry• SPOTLIGHT Unsigned – a concert for bands that don’t have a

record contract but, have been recognised for their talent. They would perform in front of thousands of music fans/readers of the magazine

• SPOTLIGHT Twitter, Facebook and YouTube page – frequent updates and interviews

Layout: The masthead will be at the top of the page in bright yellow to link in with the ‘light’ aspect. The colour will also stand out and catch the reader’s eye on a magazine rack in a shop. Underneath the masthead will be the tagline “Shining A Light On The Brightest Music Stars” This will be in small italics in a different font to the masthead. The main image will be the focus of the front cover, it will be in the background of the page. In the foreground will be text. The largest text will be the pull quote from the interview article inside. This will act as the title of the main cover story and will grab the reader’s attention. Underneath this will be a short explanatory text to give more information about the main cover story. Other cover stories will be dotted around the page all in the same font and style. Photo: I have decided, along with my focus group, that there will be one person on the front cover –a female solo artist.The model will use the direct mode of address to engage the audience. She will be smiling to show she is happy as this will relate with the article inside the magazine. There will be bright lighting to reinforce the idea of happiness. The background of the shot will be plain so that the main focus is on the model.The model will be wearing head phones so the reader can instantly see that it is a music magazine. The model will be wearing smart-casual clothing so that the reader can relate to them. The costume will show that they are still a normal person even though their job makes them a superstar.

Contents PageLayout: At the top of the page will be header saying “Contents” in the same style as the masthead for continuity. The list of content will be the main feature of this page as it is used to inform the reader exactly what is in the magazine. The left block of writing will be titled “Who’s In The Spotlight…” and will feature the main articles of the magazine with a catchy title, page number and small explanatory text. The right block of writing will be entitled “Spotlight Features”. This section would be in every issue of the magazine and feature things like charts, reviews, competitions and posters. At the top will be a large image of the cover star along with a page number. At the bottom of the page will be three smaller images of other music stars to draw the audiences in. In the bottom right hand corner will be a message from the editor thanking the reader for buying Spotlight and giving a brief explanation of what they can expect from this issue. Photo: I have decided I will have one photo which is larger, it will be the same model which is on the front cover and who the double page spread article is about. It will be a ‘glammed-up’ posed shot. The model will be wearing a fashionable dress so the audience aspire to look like her. She will be using the direct mode of address to engage the reader. There will be a few smaller images relating to other articles in the magazine places under the larger one. One of these will be shot of a male solo artist. He will be posing and looking directly to the camera to attract the female gaze. He will be dressed in fashionable clothing so male reader’s aspire to look like him.The other smaller photos will be of boybands.

Double Page SpreadLayout: The main feature of this page will be the image. It will take up most of the left hand page and all of the bottom of the two pages. The text will be written in columns and moulded around the models’ body in the image much like the existing magazine article I found. I will include a drop cap at the start of the article as this is a common convention of magazines. The content will be in question/answer interview style. The questions will be in a different colour to the answers. In the top left hand corner will be the title of the article which is a pull quote. This will be written in a large font so it is the first thing the audience reads. Underneath the pull quote will be a steadfast to briefly explain what the interview is about.Photo: My focus group decided they liked the layout to be one large image spread across the two pages with text underneath/above it.The model will be sat down with her legs stretched out leaning back on her arms. She will be wearing a bright colour dress so it stands out against the white surroundings. The whole article will be about the artist opening up to her innermost secrets, therefore the model’s body language will be open too with her arms thrown back. She won’t be wearing much make-up.This simplistic and bare shot should link in well with the actual content of the article.
