Magazine PhotographyBillboard Magazine

The magazine front cover has a

futuristic theme to it. This shows that the magazine is

modern, fresh and new.

The colours used are bright. The photograph

of Adele is in the centre. It is

a mid shot which shows

that the magazine wants to focus on her and only her.

Adeles hair colour contrasts with the

background of black. This makes the image stand

out and catch the readers attention.

The make up which is used on Adele is simple, yet

elegant. It emphasizes her eyes and she is not shown

as wearing “too much” make up. This makes the

image simple, yet effective. It stands out but it is not in

your face. This is an effective image as it tells the readers who the main

article will be about, it also makes the magazine stand out compared to others. The image is bright, colourful and also

playful- not serious.

This was a controversial front cover for Q. Many

people did not like this image as Cheryl Cole is

not the sort of celebrity/artist who

would usually be on Q magazine.

Magazine PhotographyQ Magazine

This image is very provocative. It would appeal

to people who like Cheryl Cole, especially men.

However, it would not appeal to people who read the

magazine for the music – not the good looking artists.

The make up used on this image is dark, sexy and smoky.

This makes the image very dark. Cheryl Cole is trying to look like a rock star who are

the people usually focused on in the magazine.

The body language of Cheryl Cole how she is licking her finger also emphasizes how the

magazine is using this image to portray Cheryl

Cole as sexy and provocative which would appeal to some of their

audience.

Magazine PhotographyTrace Magazine

This image is new and modern. It does not have

the cliché photos of females/males which are usually found on the front

cover of a magazine.

The artist has covered half her face in white with

extravagant eyelashes. She does not have a bright

lipstick on, it is a natural colour. This makes the image

different and unique.

This image has not been seen anywhere

else, this would appeal to the

audience and would stand out on the

shelf of other magazines.

The image catches the readers eye. It is bright, unique

and it also tells the reader that the

magazine will be like the image.

The image is a mid shot of the artist. There is also a very small amount of writing around it which makes the image the centre of attention. For the magazine, this means that the image has to be creative and stand out from other magazines.

This image has done that by being different, using simple colours but still making them effective.

Magazine PhotographyClash Magazine

The focus of the image is the models bright, neon blue

hair. This sets the background colour for the

front cover and stands out to the readers.

The image is a close up of the models face. She has purple lipstick on to contrast with the bright blue hair. This relates to

the strap line of the magazine “The future of

music?” as the bright colours and alien-like –look are very futuristic

The image is very effective as it catches the readers eye through the colours and the simplicity of the photo. It also shows that the magazine is different

to others.

The magazines name is “Clash” this image is effective in representing that through the clash of coulours of bright blue and purple lipstick.

The model also is wearing headphones which show that it is a music based magazine

Magazine PhotographySpin Magazine

The image reflects the artist of fun and

colourful which is like her music.

The image is playful. The artist has green

hair and purple lipstick which is also the

colours shown on her clothing. This is

effective as it is not boring or dull, it is

bright which appeals to the reader and would make them smile.

The image is of the artist who looks like she is jumping

around or at a party. This reflects the type of music the

magazine includes which would appeal straight away

to their target audience.

The image is very effective as it reflects the type of magazine and uses a creative

“spin” on what a usual magazine front cover image would have.

Justin Beiber is known as the “pretty boy” with good looks.

This image takes his usual look and shows him beaten up, and not as pretty as he can be. This

shows another side of Justin Beiber and is also a contrasting

image which would shock/surprise the readers.

The front cover has no writing apart form the title and the strap line. This makes the image the centre of attention which would

be the first thing the reader sees. IT would instantly tell them

who is going to be the main feature in the magazine.

The shot looks like it is a moving shot. The reader looks at the

magazine as if they are the one in the fight with Justin Beiber. He does

not look like he is posing for the camera.

This is a modern technique which the magazine have used

and would appeal to the audience.

This image is contrasting and would get people talking

about it. It is different and unique and would stand out. The colours used are simple

such as blue, white and black. The blood coming from Justin

Beiber stands out over his white shirt.

Magazine PhotographyW Magazine

The image is modern and elegant. Christina Aguilera

is usually shown as a provocative and racy artist

however in this image, while it is still provocative, it

is very romantic. This is shown through the red

roses and innocent facial expression she has.

The colours are very chic and subtle. Greys, whites and blacks are used and then the roses are bright red which stand out and would catch the readers

eye.

The magazine is both about music and style.

Christina however is not wearing clothese still

shows style through her hair style and her body position which would appeal to their trget

audience.

Comparing to the Q magazine photography of Cheryl Cole, which was almost cheap and too provocative. This is more subtle and romantic and

does not although Christina is naked and only covered with a sheet it does not come across as cheap. This appeals to the readers as they do not feel

like they have to buy the magazine just because of the image.

Magazine PhotographyNME Magazine

This image is not as effective as the previous ones. There is

a lot of text covering the image making only their faces

clear.

The image places the band members in order of importance from back to front having the lead singer at front whilst the

other members are in the background.

The facial expressions are serious, they are not fun or playful which is not usually what NME have. They are

known for bands that create excitement however this image is dull and boring.

The colours of the image are only black, whereas the text

around and on top of the image is bright green which is more appealing and eye catching than the image

behind it.

Magazine PhotographySpin Magazine

The image of the band looks like they are jumping out of the magazine. This is

entertaining, modern and eye catching for the

reader and would instantly make someone pick up the magazine.

There is no text covering the image

which shows the importance of the

image of the band.

The colors are bright and contrasting. The

bands all have different colours that do not go together, it is mixed up just like

rock music.

The image is a moving shot which means it doesn’t

look posed, it looks like they are

jumping right at you which is not usually found on

magazine covers.
