Degree or skill – what is more important?
Introduction
Degree and skill are two sides of the same coin. To succeed in the race of life, a person
needs to have a degree along with the skill. A degree without the skill would be as empty
as the skill without the degree. Both need to go together to be the survival of the fittest.
Degree is nothing but the certified documentation of the skill within the individual. Every
person having the skill may not manage to attain the degree. Similarly, every degree
holder is not necessarily skilled. The requirement of the degree or skill depends upon the
organization, the nature of post etc. On a general outlook, which criteria carries more
weightage – the degree or the skill?
Degree
● Degree is an authenticate certificate that the person applying for the post is having
the knowledge of the work requirement and can manage the functioning and
justify the post.
● Degree makes a person more confident in his approach and outlook. These things
are an essential part of the personality development.
● Degree can make a person more polite, humble, and wiser. This could be to take
charge of the job or to climb the success ladder. But these things are difficult to
manage without a degree in hand.
● A degree earns respect and social reputation. A person is assessed through his
qualifications which is reflected by his degree.
● Degree earns money and status for its master. The more specialised the degree, the
higher the post and status and higher is the salary package.
Skill
● Every degree holder is not necessarily skilled. It is the skill that helps to achieve
the target and not the degree.
● Skill is an abstract term which cannot be evaluated on the bits of paper. It is a
broad spectrum which is groomed within the individual and nurtured through the
repeated practical implications in life.
● It is not the degree but the skill that achieves success. A degree can just earn the
job, but it cannot help to grow further without the skill.
● It is skill which attracts the employers, clients and management which lifts or
drops the person. Without the skill, the person would not be able to catch hold the
interest of their superiors and attain success.
● The great people from the history were all skilled people, but they didn’t had the
certifications for their knowledge.
67 | Page
Conclusion
Degree is the theoretical evaluation of an abstract concept which is virtually not possible.
It is the skill that helps the person to grow up both materially / financially and
immaterially with respect to the status, importance, social respect and recognition etc.
Degree has its own importance, as a person need to have some skill in order to achieve
the degree. A complete dumb individual cannot qualify to attain the degree. Hence, we
can summarize by saying that the degree is the first step in the ladder of skills which
leads to the success in life.
HOW TO CHOOSE A ROLE MODEL
Role models are important. They help us become the person we want to be and
inspire us to make a difference. Choosing wisely means that you will be positively
influenced and encouraged to be the best person possible.
● Choose a role model you know to help you become the best version of yourself.
A role model that you know can help you to mature and grow as a person. They
can give guidance and advice and offer real-world examples of how to achieve
your best.
● Identify your bad habits, or negative aspects of your personality. These are the
things you do not like or want to change about yourself and are important in
determining how you wish to change. Make a list of the things you want to
achieve, both as a person and in your life.
● Consider someone who has a sense of purpose. If you want to be an inspirational
person, think about the people who inspire you. Do a little brainstorming. Why do
you admire them so much? What is the message they send through their actions?
● Choose someone who makes you feel good about being you. Your role model
should be someone who thinks it is all right to be unique, even if that means
accepting some ridicule. They should always make you feel positive and good
about being yourself. The purpose of having a role model is to encourage and
inspire you to improve yourself. If your choice of role model does not make you
feel this way, then it is best to choose another.
● Choose someone who is different to you. We are all tempted to choose a certain
role model because we see something of ourselves in them. These role models will
only hold you back because you are not really changing any characteristics of
yourself, you are simply perfecting characteristics that are already there. Choose a
role model because you see something in them that you are ‘not’ but need to be.
68 | Page
● Learn about their successes and failures. It is important to learn about both the
successes and failures of your role model. Sometimes learning about the failures
of your role model can encourage and motivate you more than learning about their
successes. By learning about their failures, you realize that they, like you, are only
human and will make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them and
keep working to improve yourself. For example, even famous scientists such as
Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein struggled and failed many times in their lives
but they kept working hard to achieve and eventually they were successful. By
learning about their struggles, you can motivate yourself to keep working hard
even when nothing seems to be working.
● Do not copy your role model completely because they also tend to make mistakes.
Use them as a guide and Create your own style Do not lose yourself in the attempt
to follow the example of your role model. Adopt the characteristics you would
like most to improve about yourself while keeping the rest of you as you are.
Every person in life has a role model who inspires them when they are low and
motive them through their actions and achievements. To me a role model is a
person who has positively influenced someone in life and is not a person filled with
selfishness and greed. They help shape someone's personality, and characteristics.
They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation and
know that they will give those words of wisdom.

Crafting my life through the “Pioneers of English Literature”
hat is it like to fall in love or
have a deep state of inclination
over which your passion is
hidden? Well, this captivates me straight
to the topic which evokes me as an
individual, with a slightest coy. The
oxford dictionary defines literature as to,
“written works, especially those
considered of superior or lasting artistic
merit”
Let us start with where it all begun.
Primarily, scholars have often disagreed
concerning when written record-keeping
became more like “literature” than
anything else; the definition is largely
subjective. To dive deep inside, when the
Library of Alexandria in 1st century BC
was destructed, the innumerable key texts
are believed to have been lost forever to
the flames. Though which many
prominent and successive literature artists
came to rise. It is often a roller-coaster
ride for a girl who is etched with authentic
values which are “old school type” by
millennial era to revive through it all.
Wise men say things that we search for
are searching us too. I, who was thriving
to squeeze out some of the good old books
from the so called, middle age literature
era, came across the book which read,
“HOPE is the thing with feather”. Yes,
this book gave me the next level thrive to
connect the missing dots. To be able to
fathom the bulk of Emily Dickinson’s
work took me far from reality. She herself
stood as a doughty and prominent woman
in my sub conscious.
I being a happy monkey to be influenced
by such a versatile persona began
exploring more when I was about, 15
years old. Universe unfolded me many of
her epic writings such as “Success is
counted sweetest”, “Because I could not
stop for death”, “I’m nobody, who are
you?” and very many. I could then
understand the drive of people reading
books. To be honest, these are the ones
fortunately are my all-time favourites; not
because they are big and have interesting
stories, but because it could inspire and
provoke a million reasons to live better
and have strong roots. My bijou cerebrum
had a rapid as well as substantial repairing
done inside. For most people around the
world, our first serious encounter with
literature comes from school. I very
vividly remember my English teacher in
my mid school had asked me to interpret a
couple of paragraphs from the very one
“Romeo and Juliet”. I for the first time
ever was so head over heels in love with
the draw up, that I was taken back for a
second. I mean, for how deep of a love
can a person be able to transcribe and
compose words which can stand up for
eternities long. Cut to few weeks later, I
had completed the entire book while my
countdowns for annual exams had already
set about. Every step I was taking to
explore more, bought me much closer
than I could ever think of. I had a sense of
stimulation on reading more such English
literature. From the master mentor
Shakespeare to the contemporary poets
Rupi Kaur and Amber Tamblyn, everyone
has had had a tremendous impact on me,
as a new gen myself.
Ever since I was small, stories have been a
part of my life. It is a sure shot that stories
like ‘The tales of peter rabbit’ and ‘The
very hungry caterpillar’ were me en route
W

to another world. Everybody would have
experienced it in one way or the other. To
say the least, not much has changed and
on most nights, I love to read- to find the
escape away from reality. But literature is
more than that. It has transcended time
and is still with us, forming critical parts
of today’s curriculums. Being able to
empathize with a group of characters
written on a page is categorical and from
an individual’s perspective a necessary
skill. Additionally, the ability to sense
themes and messages opens us up to
another way of thinking. Literature
becomes a vessel. We can vouch for how
undeniable the impact of literature in
modern society has been. I personally feel,
literature acts as a form of expression for
each individual author. We are blessed to
come across some books which allow us
to better understand the world we live in.
As social beings, we easily get connected
to the psyche of authors through their
stories. To prove the very statement, a
Gulf article says, “In an era of modern
media, such as television and movies,
people are misled into thinking that every
question or problem has its quick
corrections or solutions. However,
literature confirms the real complexity of
human conflict”.
Even today the criticism, doubtful
choices, backlashes and to all the layers of
negativity has the piece of values from
literature helped me to overpower my self-
esteem and re-think my existence. It
indeed reflects humanity and a way for us
to understand each other. In fact, literature
is what we have always used to connect
with each other individually. It is often a
substantial tool to write our identity as
humans and make a record of our time.
However, literature is not just books.
Books are merely the tool to write
literature. It is a concept of its own. The
kind of impact literature has given us
through the pantheons in the
contemporary society is huge. It majorly
has a solution to every problem ever
raised. When we read literature from
another period, from another country, and
if it is analysed correctly, it takes us back
directly to them. It is like time travelling.
This is a superpower for many fields,
especially history. Though social media
takes away all the time and credit to
connect people across the globe, literature
and the core values taught by literary
pantheons makes us connect with humans
from other societies, it makes humans
from one society connect to another.
Literature has often stood up to raise the
voice to love, longing and the sorrow of
losing someone.
Literature teaches us how to live. It takes
years to acquire so much wisdom that a
single book of literary merit instils in a
reader. Studying human condition is not
enough. One must feel that condition to
gain wisdom. Literature of any form or by
means provides for a richer life. No other
form of learning brings the enrichment
that reading brings. There is nothing
wrong in calling literature as the torch
bearer that has helped humans across
globe to overcome the darkness of
savagery. For example, in the absence of
the great Ramayana, Mahabharata and the
Vedas India would not have been called
Golden Bird. Similarly, what makes
Greece the mother of European
civilization is its great literature.
I am a firm believer that the pantheons of
literature have not only thrown their parts
71 | Page
of knowledge to us but also, have paved a
way for humankind in becoming more
righteous for whatever they do. Literature
itself has never been for another purpose.
It has always been the same since our very
beginnings in this planet earth. It is truly a
timeless thing. So, in the words of
Tolstoy, without literature “men would be
like wild beasts” because it endows an
understanding, empathy in the reader,
even for someone who is much separated
to him by time and distance. The strong
pantheons from literature (of any kind) are
always holding us firm in picking up the
guiltless tasks and have taught us ever
since to follow our conscious. They unite
mankind and keeps us connected.

PATIENCE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS….!
nce upon a time in a village
there were two brothers, they
were priests, and they spent
most of the time in temple. Elder one
was always spending his time in the
temple worshipping God & collecting
the money from the devotees. The
younger one was not so interested in
making money as he felt that God is
watching us.
One day evening there was a heavy
rainfall. The water level increased and
the river which was flowing near the
temple flooded. Water started entering
the temple. The two brothers rushed
inside the temple to save the idol &
valuables, but it was not possible. They
both went to the tip of the temple &
started praying to God to help them.
The elder brother becomes nervous when
the younger brother told not to lose
patience. He started praying to God; but
the elder brother became more nervous.
When the water reached his feet, he told
his younger brother that “There is no
God and no one will save us. I will swim
& safeguard myself. If you want to come
jump into the water & try to swim.” But
the current of water dragged him & he
was not able to swim. On the other hand,
the younger brother without losing
patience & hope, continued his prayer.
Within a second a boat reached that spot
and saved the younger one’s life.
Unfortunately, the elder brother lost his
life. If the elder brother had patience &
trust on God, he would not have lost his
life.
Today’s youth do not have patience.
They do not think before they act. If we
do any work with patience, we will be
successful. The moral of the story is
before doing any work we should work
patiently to succeed.

In sweet solitude of mind,
she listens to wind secrets,
uttering truth the fragile one,

with her mellifluous intentions
from the heart of the universe,
there shall she find her wings

The Truth about Sanskrit
Sanskrit is the mother of all Indian
languages and a sister of all the European
languages and with its knowledge; we can
learn most of the current world languages
easily. Those who are yet to know
Sanskrit do not examine carefully before
leaving what they hear. These are some of
the misconceptions about Sanskrit:
*Sanskrit is no longer in Vogue and that it
is not and can never be a spoken language.
*Sanskrit is a language of the scriptures
and that only the people of certain
professions like pundits and priests study
it to understand and help perform rituals.
Many believe that it has no use in our
daily routine or for the common man.
❖ Since it is used in the scriptures
(the language of gods), it is sacred
and consequent of this, committing
73 | Page
mistakes in Sanskrit is simple and
cannot be excused.
❖ Only the scholars can use it
because, using it, one needs to
master the whole grammar which is
highly complicated and learn it's
vocabulary which is again endless.
❖ There is a lot of memory to learn
Sanskrit and even its learning is
very difficult, monotonous, and
boring.
Falling prey to these widespread miss
conception people give up after. Some
trial or never try to own this treasure of
human wisdom stored in Sanskrit
literature.
On the contrary there are many virtues
and advantages Sanskrit language and its
literature have to offer to all –
● Sanskrit is the oldest language our
planet. Hence in its study and
research we see a wonderful
history passing through many
millennia.
● It is a natural language and is
phonetic. We write Sanskrit exactly
as we speak it there are no silent
letters either in contrast to Sanskrit,
one cannot read many English
words properly unless he knows
English to a certain extent.
● There is only one set of alphabets
in Sanskrit which avoids many
complexities of writing capital,
small and italic letters.
● Sanskrit sentence structure is
flexible. Hence every student has
more freedom in composing
sentences in Sanskrit.
● There is infinity in its word
formation possibilities, and they
are all well-structured and
computerized, long before
computers came into use.
● Virtually everything, includes those
subjects which are technical like
science, engineering, medicine,
grammar, philosophy, law is in
poetry, easy to memory and to
quote them melodiously.
● Since both Sanskrit and the
computer have less irregularities,
their combination should work
marvellously for the benefit of
mankind.
● Sanskrit literature is unique in its
overwhelming poetic character.
● There are lots of English words that
are inspired by Sanskrit.

and found him "mono maniac", but
eventually he became one of closest
people in his life. Ramakrishna reportedly
shaped the personality of Narendranath
and prepared him to dedicate his life to
serve the humanity. After the death of
Ramakrishna, Narendra and his other
monastic disciples established their first
monastery at Baranagar.
The message of Advaita Vedanta
philosophy, the Hinduism tenet, inspired
by Ramakrishna, the nineteenth century
doyen of revival of Hinduism, was ably
and convincingly transmitted by
Vivekananda his illustrious disciple first
at the Parliament of the World's Religions
held from 23 September 1893 at Chicago
and thus began the impressive propagation
of the Ramakrishna movement throughout
the United States. (Also included in the
message of this movement was on four
yogas). The two men there upon launched
the Ramakrishna Mission and established
the Ramakrishna Math to perpetuate this
message and over the years the two
organizations have worked in tandem to
promote what is popularly called the
Ramakrishna Order and this legacy has
been perpetuated not only to the western
world but to the masses in India to this
day.
Vivekananda who was an unknown monk
on the US soil on 23 September 1893
before the start of the Parliament became
overnight a celebrity.

Draupadi raupadi daughter of Drupada is
the most important female
character in the most important
female character in the Hindu epic, king
Drupada of panchala had been defeated
by the Pandava prince Arjuna on behalf
of Drona, who subsequently took half his
kingdom. To gain revenge on Drona, he
performed a yajna called Putrakamghti
yajna to obtain a means of blessing him.
From the sacrificial fire, Draupadi
emerged as a beautiful young woman
after her sibling Dhrishtadyumna. When
she emerged from the fire a heavenly
voice said that she could bring about the
destruction of the kuru line. Draupadi is
described in the Mahabharata as a very
beautiful woman.
Drupada intended to wed his daughter to
Arjuna, upon hearing of the Pandavas
supposed death at varnauata, he set up a
Swayamvara contest for Draupadi to
choose her husband from the competitive
contest. At the Swayamvara, almost all
the assorted monarchs were unable to
complete the challenge. There are three
primary variations regarding Karma’s
participation. Draupadi refusing to marry
karna on account of being a Suta, other
versions describe him failing to string
the bow by the “breadth of a hair”.
In the end, Arjuna succeeds in the task,
dressed as a Brahmin. As the other
attendees, including the Kauravas,
protest at a Brahmin winning the
competition and attack Arjuna and
Bhima protect Draupadi and are able to
D

retreat. When Draupadi arrives with the
five Pandavas to meet Kunti, they inform
her that Arjuna won alms, to which
Kunti says “share the alms equally”.
This motherly command leads the five
brothers to become the five husbands of
Draupadi.
The key incident is often considered to
mark a definitive moment in the story of
Mahabharata. It is one of the driving
reasons that ultimately led to the
Kurukshetra war. Together with his
maternal uncle shakuni, duryodhana
conspired to call on the pandavas to
hastinapur and win there kingdom in a
game of gambling. Shakuni had a magic
dice that would never disobey his will, as
they were from the bones of shakuni’s
father. As the game proceeds
yudhishthira loses him, he subsequently
gambles away Sahdev, Arjuna, and
Bheema. Finally, yudhishthira puts
himself at stake ana loses again for
Duryodhana the humiliation of the
Pandavas was not complete. He prouds
Yudhishthira that he has not lost
everything yet, he still has Draupadi with
him and if he wishes he can win
everything back by putting Draupadi at
stake. He puts Draupadi up as a bet for
the next round and Shakuni wins.
Draupadi was horrified after hearing that
she was staked in the game and now is a
slave for Duryodhana. Draupadi questions
Yudhishthira's right on her as he had lost
himself first and she was still the queen.
Duryodhana commands his younger
brother Dushyasana to bring her into the
court, forcefully if he must. He drags
Draupadi to the court by the hair. Seeing
this Bhima pledges to cut off
Dushyasana's hands, as they touched
Draupadi's hair. Duryodhana bares and
hats his thigh looking into Draupadi’s eyes
implying that she should sit on his thigh.
The only Kauravas who object to the
disrobing of Draupadi in the court are
Vikrana and Vidira Gandhari enters the
scene and counsels Dhritarashtra to undo
her son’s misdeeds. Fearing the ill-omens,
Dhritarashtra interuenes and grants
Draupadi a boon, Draupadi asks that her
husband yudhishthira be freed from
bondage so her son Prativindhya would
not be called a slave. In order to pacify her
further, Dhritarashtra offers a second
boom. Calmly she asks for the freedom of
the Pandavas along with their weapons.
When Dhritarashtra asks her for her third
wish, she reminds him that a Kshatriya
woman can seek only two wishes, there
would be a sign of greed. Dhritarashtra
gives them back their wealth and grants
them permission to go home.
Having restored their pride and wealth the
Pandavas and Draupadi leave for
Indraprastha, only to receive another
invitation for a game of dice. In which the
loser would be given an exit of 12 years
followed by a year Agnathavas, meaning
“ leaving in incognito”. Yudhishthira yet
again accepts the invitation and loses and
goes on a exile with his brothers and wife
Draupadi

Krishna and Balarama
Krishna, who was most popular of all In
Indian divinities worshipped in eighth
incarnation? He was the Avatar of Hindu
god Vishnu. He was born into the Yadava
clan, the son of Vasudeva and Devaki.
Baladeva (Balarama):
He is the divine son of Vasudeva by his
wife Rohini. He is also known as Rohini
Nandana, the beloved son of Rohini.
Lord Krishna and lord Baladeva were
constant companions from their very
childhood, although they were
stepbrothers. He is the plenary
manifestation of the supreme personality
of godhead, and therefore he is as and
powerful as lord Krishna. He belongs to
the Vishnu-tattva. He attended the
Swayamvara ceremony of Draupadi along
with Sri-Krishna.
When Subhadra was kidnapped by Arjuna
by the organized plan of Sri Krishna.
Baladeva was very angry with Arjuna and
wanted to kill him at once. Sri Krishna,
for the sake of his dear friend fell at the
feet of lord Baladeva and implored him to
be so angry with the Kauravas, and he
wanted to throw their whole city into the
depths of the Yamuna. But the Kauravas
satisfied him by surrendering unto his
divine lotus feet.
He was the seventh son of Devaki prior to
the birth of lord Krishna, but by the will of
the lord he was transferred to the womb of
Rohini to escape the wrath of Kamsa. His
other name is therefore sankarsana, who is
also the plenary position of Sri Baladeva.
Because he is as powerful as lord Krishna
and can bestow spritual power to the
devotees. He is therefore as Baladeva.
In the Vedas also it is enjoined that no one
can know the supreme lord without being
favoured by Baladeva. Bala means
spirituals strength, not physical. Some less
intelligent persons interpet bala as the
strength of the body. But no one can have
spiritual realization by physical strength
physical strength ends with the end of
physical body, but spritual strength
follows the spirit soul to the next
73 | Page
transmigration, and therefore the strength
obtained by Baladeva is never wasted.
The strength is eternal, and thus Baladeva
is the original spiritual master of all the
devotees.
Sri Baladeva was also a class friend of
lord Sri Krishna as a student of Sandipani
Muni. In this childhood he killed many
asuras along with Sri Krishna, and
specifically he killed the Dhenukasura at
Talavana.
During the Kurukshetra battle, He
remained neutral and he tried his best not
to bring about the flight. He was in favour
of Duryodhana but still he remained
neutral when there was a club-fight
between Duryodhana and Bhimasena. He
was present on the spot. He was angry at
Bhimasena when the latter struck
Duryodhana on the thigh or below the
beet, and he wanted to retaliate the unfair
action. Lord Sri Krishna saved Bhima
from his wrath. But he left the place at
once, being disgusted at Bhimasena, and
after his departure Duryodhana fell to the
ground to meet his death.
The funeral ceremony of Abhimanyu, the
son of Arjuna, was performed by him, as
he was the maternal uncle. It was
impossible to be performed by any one of
the Pandavas, who were all overhelmed
with grief. At the last stage, the departed
from this world by producing a great
white shake from his mouth, and thus he
was carried by sesanaga in the shape of a
serpent.
